She became the Empress after she died but it was only Shengmu Empress, meaning she became Empress because of her son becoming Emperor, and not because of the Emperor's affection for her. So while this is only a drama, it is still historically accurate to portray Empress Xiaoyichun / Lady Weigiya as a villain who ultimately still did not gain the true affections of the Emperor

@@asakomifune5430 your last statement is a bit of a reach considering none of us actually have first hand knowledge of what happened in Qianlong's harem and the fact that the historical Consort Ling bore 7 children for the emperor. She would only really be able to have that many children if she was constantly favoured and considering her family had no political importance, the emperor would be favouring her because he wanted to and not because he had to. Its also not fair to say she was a villain as there's no evidence for that and Ruyi is the only piece in recent history that had framed her as a villain

In this drama, the eason why she got her empress title after her death was because the emperor (or empress dowager) killed her before her son ascended to prevent her from living as an empress. And I forgot why she died in Yanxi's Palace.
