How is being so stupid you can't remember the name of anything not negative? Every one of his descriptions make black people sound retarded while trying to make fun of white people for his audience.
Facts I'm White and I didn't have enough money to eat told my black friend hey I'm broke can you buy me McDonald's pay you back. Instead went to his parents place and they fed me like a hog. And they knew I was struggling they gave me home cooked meals and left overs to feed me for the week. When it comes to Black Americans cooking the best food I ever had.
Now if you guys can only embrace the negative aspects of your culture without it being labeled stereotypical we’d be onto something. It’s nice cherry-picking attributes.
@@jakeryan2184 I think white people have done a pretty good job identifying and advertising that . We are all aware. It is just nice to hear something positive and true once in awhile. Gary's platform is not as broad as the negative platforms out there so don't worry not as many of us will have chuckle and warm feeling today.
Everything he said is true. As a white dude who grew up in the suburbs of a small town, moving to the big city life and making black friends was the best thing I did for myself. I’m grateful for all of them.
I can remember back in the 90's when he did stand up on BET and he was the only white guy on the card but he brought the house down every time he took the stage.
And that's why he hosted a season of Comic View. He's hilarious. Every time this clip or any of his clips cross my RU-vid suggestions, I watch them. His jokes NEVER get old. 😂😂😂😂
He was HILARIOUS on Comic View!! For some reason two of his jokes stick out in my head. 1 - Black People might be from the "West SIDE!" (He threw up the W.) White people might be "Double WIDE!" 🤣 2 - He was dating a deaf girl and figured out "Olive Oil" looked like "I love you" when reading lips. They were dancing and he kept saying "Olive Oil you Girl!" She was responding verbally and with sign language. He didn't lie to her! 🤣
As a black person who worked in customer service for years,...100% accurate. I've hooked people up. I've known people and moved some things around for deals.
If you going to talk about black folks or tell jokes about black folks THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT 👍👏👏 no stereotypes or insults just the honest truth about being friends with another culture. I must say this guy is very good 👍 very funny without being vulgar or insulting.
One key thing I loved: Gary got caught on the field by the white security guard, knew he could get in trouble, but still didn't want to snitch, even though he probably wouldn't have gotten the other guard in trouble. That's how you keep the hook ups coming. 😄
when I was in texas, i had black friends and they invited me to parties, barbecues, movies, clubs .... all cuz we worked together...they were a blessing
SO TRUE! It's the accuracy for me! You can feel the honor and love for the people he's been around and he makes you bust a gut because you KNOW somebody who is just like the person he is describing!
Hanging with and around different cultures and different people is fun, like high school and teammates… and haha the rental thing, probably got canned for that, unless they just don’t audit or care
So you think MLK envisioned a world where a marginally talented White male comedian uses the fact he was married to a Black woman as his primary shtick to earn a living? That’s a crazy statement. I’ll never understand why Black people are so eager for acceptance they rhetorically invite corny dudes like Gary Owen to the rhetorical barbecue
@@elmalloc are you from 2016? with false news from CNN and MSNBC? People don’t have that opinion anymore. People realize they were lied too now that it’s 2022 here.
5:04 I can confirm that I can relate to that reaction. I'm an African woman and was in New York for the first time, lost on the subway looking for my accommodation. I asked an AA woman working there to help me. When I told her the address she said: "Now WHO organised this accommodation for you?! That area is NOT safe at all!". She was visibly disappointed/annoyed, shaking her head and frowning like she was ready to phone that person and give them a piece of her mind! 😄 No one besides my own mother has ever expressed that much concern for my safety in my life! 😭😅 she was so caring 🩷🙏
We gotta look out for each other ✊🏾I would’ve done the same thing too. Especially if your personal safety was at risk?! Oh nah boo we can’t have you on the 11:00 news 😂
@W..J.. aww 🩷💕 we do need to look out for each other! She really made sure I knew where to go! Even grabbed my phone to have a good look and figure out google maps for me. It wasn't even the only time. Two other (younger) AA ladies approached to help us in other situations during my stay. One came over and politely offered a ride because we were chilling waiting at the gas station (Arizona) and the other came over to see if we needed help figuring out the subway schedule (NY). We must have looked confused as heck 😂 In both cases we were fine but felt so impressed and surprised by the kindness. Neither one was just passing close by. They purposefully came over to help out! Amazing.
That part! That really stood out for me, cuz you know Jim would've BEEN turned around and pointed at Deshaun saying "I don't know. He just brought me down here. I don't even know him." 🙄😅
When I was training to be a nurse, the friendliest students of all were the black students. They were really nice and I ended up with 12 new friends who attended my wedding. Years later, I am still in touch with most of them.
He is spot on with the respect shown by the black community, and how accommodating they are for their own and people that they respect! I use to always tip the chef (who happened to be black) for the way he prepared the food from the menu. One day we went in to eat, and the tuna wasn't on the menu anymore. 😢 I enquired about it, and the girl went to ask the chef. He ended up coming out of the kitchen to see who was asking. He saw us and said, "I got you!" 🙌😊
@@2TMarie why did you have to say he happened to be black? Why so afraid of just saying he was black? Lmao. The more we tippy toe around that the weird white people come off when trying to show equality. Don’t try so hard, it’s just skin
@calisongbird - I know it makes us stand out but it's a respect thing from our side. We're trying to say "the chef was awesome so I tipped him. His colour/race didn't matter to me, but he happened to be black, which is why I'm bringing up the story, and his race is the bit that makes it relevant". We don't want anyone to think we're ass-kissing or treating him differently because of the guy's race. I guess it must seem weird as it does sound "white" but, in a world where so many white people are racist as hell (& written comments can be hard to contextualise without the tone of voice or body language of face-to-face communication), we're just trying to show that we're not. Also, if we're not careful how we word it, there's always someone who will say "what's his race got to do with it?" &, next thing, we're being accused of being hateful when we were just trying to join in and share a story. Essentially, we say it from a place of love - even if it makes us sound a bit odd! 💕👍
This is so true!! I’m white and have so many black friends and I love attending the local black churches. When the black community decides you’re a good person, they got your back, no matter your race!
Oh dude, I went to my first service at a "black church" in Oakland a few years back... Only time I left a house of God with my ears ringing and a smile on my face
@@EvilPandaGMan2and they always serve food at morning services and bless your day, ask how the family is. I left service stomach full of the spirit and food 😂
Gary I grew up in a small town outside of Memphis. I was on the volunteer fire department and we put out a fire in the City Cafe where the black ladies cooked. From that day forward when we would get a plate to go those gals would pile it on. God bless em
I used to live in Harlem and my cousin owned a Brownstone that her friends from travels lived in. One of the people that lived in her house was the lead singer of Crash Test Dummies. Black people in Harlem knew who he was more than white folks. It was crazy funny!!
As a black man that works customer service this shit is true AF lol I be like fk the rules, I be giving out free shit all the time. The way company's mark prices up they can afford it 🤷🏿♂️💯😂
So you’re actually stealing from your employer, and the rest of the customers have to pay higher prices as a result. That’s not something to brag about. You’re just reinforcing negative stereotypes about black people as thieves. The Denzels of the world would not be impressed. Black people b*tch about being discriminated against at work, but then do sh*t like this?
I’m African American and I think Gary is one of the most genuine comedians out here and I laugh at his comedy cause we can relate based on surrounding and other factors. People gotta understand he grew up around them so he would know what they do and he does it in a way that doesn’t diminish who we are rather makes it a good laugh and shows how much he appreciates us. But personally idc what race you are cause at the end of the day we are all one body living different lives in Christ name Jesus
It’s just culture! Doesn’t make it right or wrong but we all have cultural differences and it’s fun to talk and laugh about our differences. Denzel said it best about knowing culture. Gary been there and done it. It’d be like a black comedian laughing about growing up in a small rural town that’s predominantly white.
😬. We *are the same race* we are all part of the human race. We all have different ethnicities & none of our skin matches. My skin doesn’t even match my husbands. He’s Scottish & I’m Sicilian, he’s pink & I’m more yellow. & people from different areas of the United States are different doesn’t matter the race. I grew up with upper class black people who wouldn’t even get these jokes. They don’t have those experiences. It doesn’t matter what ethnicity you are. It’s all environmental.
You don't even have to be black famous. Just be genuine and make a connection. Black people (all people really, but black folks a little more so) will pick up on that and treat you right.
My friend used to proudly ask his mom if he can bring his white boy over and his mom would bubble with excitement about how she was gonna make me chicken for coming over. Black moms are the most genuine women I’ve met
This is really acurate. I am a German girl and made an internship in child care (to go as an Au Pair to the US) in a US military base in Mannheim. Back then I was 18. The Ladies and a guy at the office where I took the First Aid were really incredible. 1. One of the Ladies as she saw I failed on the written test took me aside and said: You were doing so good in class and knew everything, what happened? I said: some terms I didn't understand. She made the exam oral with me and explained the words I didn't knew. I passed perfectly fine ☺ 2. Once they knew I would be alone at Thanksgiving (my Mom travelled home to Mexiko for a couple of weeks) I had like 5 invitations to different homes ☺ Oh, the food at this once black Lady was OmG! Incredible delicious. I got pampered so much in that time, I felt like an adorable puppy 😂 Sooo lovely and kind people.
Gary is awesome. I’m white and have worked in schools that are predominantly African-American and there’s always been Black colleagues of mine who have told me I’m funny like “Gary Owens.” And that’s the facts about being Black famous; when they ALMOST get your name right, you’re in.
@@calisongbird you didn’t make a point. If you didn’t find it to be funnier simply because he was correct then ok. But “funny” is relative to the individual. So if I say it’s funnier for a reason then it is, because it’s personal. How you feel about what’s funny to me is irrelevant.
I am a white guy, back when I was about 17 years old ( early 2000ns) I knew an older black dude in my city who was kind of a big shot in the club scene and for some reason always liked me. One day Method Man and Redman came to one of the clubs to perform. Naturally we all went to see the legends. When we stood before the bouncers (Arabian dudes) they wouldnt let us in. We just wanted to start trouble an suddenly my dude comes walking out the VIP entrance woth his crew, he saw what was going on so he came over and put all them arabian bouncers in line, like: "You work for me mofockas! You will let those dude in!!" And like that wasnt enough, he took us straight to VIP and I endet up chillin with the legends after the show!!!!! Smoke some ;) Damn the look on those bouncers faces when we left was priceless ^^ And it endet up beeing one of, of not THE best party of my life
Everyone gotta love Gary Owens, you supa black famous cause you got over a million black fans till the end and back I watched you for the first time on comic view and you’ve never let me down since. Just be you like always
U can tell he love black people and understands them on a deeper level through all our bs we’re very friendly and giving people, but our exterior says don’t fuck with me😂
I’ll tell you a secret… a lot of us white people also understand black folks on a deeper level, but we don’t put on the “blaccent” and speak in black slang in order to virtue signal. We choose to just be our authentic selves and not try to “be black.” But we are quietly observant and have been in many black spaces and get the culture.
@@calisongbird oh come on its comedy not stereotype, i know were you are going with this but I dont think he talks to any brown person like that. Peace
@@calisongbird There is a difference between white people who understand black people on a deeper level because they have grown up around them for a very long time, and then those who are "quietly observing and been in many black spaces and get the culture." Gary is the former, while you are the latter. You would come across as virtue signaling while Gary would not because he "gets it" more than you and other white people like you, do. Not to say that one is worse than the other, but I, and some others, can agree that we don't get the "virtue signaling" vibes from Gary.
@@lolsmileyface1057Gary did not “grow up around” black folks. Quite the opposite, he grew up in a white trailer park. He didn’t get into black culture until well into adulthood; I’ve heard him tell the story. And it was only because a friend suggested he might get more work in black comedy clubs. Have you ever noticed how he turns his “blaccent” on and off? He dials it way up for standup or black morning radio shows, and way back on his channel vlogs. I grew up in Berkeley, CA, which is extremely racially diverse, as are the Berkeley public schools. I still live in the Bay Area, which is also diverse. My friends growing up were all colors of the rainbow. Maybe that’s why I don’t feel the need to publicly posture, put on the accent/slang, and be “invited to the cookout.” I was literally invited to the cookouts from a young age. It’s no big deal where I come from. And virtue signaling is by definition NOT quiet. I’m not virtue signaling because I’m not putting myself out there in any major public way like Gary is. I’m just replying to a comment on a RU-vid video, which is buried deep in the thread of comments. That’s not a virtue signal move.
I love Gary. This is hilarious. All my black friends keep it real with me and hook me up because it’s one love. I use to give my black friends rides, and their family rides when they were in a pinch. They tried to give me gas money and I would never take it. I still have a key to my boys place just in case he loses them. We are family. I will never get why people hate on the color of peoples skin! Your missing out and just hating on your brother/sister. Thanks Gary for the laughs!!❤

It's called culture people. Everyone has their own culture and is proud of it. This is a great example of how different cultures come together and thrive. God bless you Gary.
love the way he didn't want to snitch on the guard and waited to get the black customer service lady at the rental place knowing he black famous and owns it well
He is telling the truth about the hook ups, I worked in the butcher at Krogers for a summer, and any time my friends would come in, I would wrap up 10 pounds of prime rib or tenderloin in the thick white paper and change the label so they only had to pay 59 cents a pound.
Love this guy, Gary. Accidentally discovered him here. I visited my white high school friend's church in Compton shortly after she purchased her first home. During the worship, I was trying to behave like a good Christian white girl. The black Christian ladies grabbed my hands and my friend's hands and said sistas we be bringing worship in the aisles. This was the best Christian praise and worship ever.
Love to my black brothers & Sisters . I am from ATL, an Indian (with a dot) American, have hung out with my black brothers - have had the pleasure to teach them back when I was in school, see them succeed - they are legit as F... Love + Respect to y'all!
I had dinner with a black family and the love at the dinner table will make you cry. If they like you , they treat you like family. We prayed before we ate , and i cried , the overwhelming feeling of friendship was something ive never felt at a dinner table.
This is for real. I got black friends and coworkers and they hook me up. I forwarded this video to one of them and we were all LOLing in the group chat like crazy. I bought a new car and the manager was black. We hit it off real good, he kept saying I GOT YOU BRUH! I GOT YOU! Next thing I know he bumped the 2 yr free maintenance to a 4 yr deal! 😂😂😂 This Gary Owens is funnnnnnnnyyyyyy with a capital T!
