Wheelersatlarge are out again bushwacking their way through the brambles and stinging nettles of the Test Valley from Romsey in Hampshire. Julie finds out what happens when Brambles Attack as well as finding something dishy at Chillbolton Observatory.

Julie mostly rides a Liv Invite with Ritchey Venturemax bars, 10 speed Tiagra 4720 and DT Swiss C1800 Spline wheels and Gravelking Slicks 32mm for road and Pathfinder Pro 38mm tyres for gravel riding.
Mike is currently riding a Decathlon Triban RC500 with Ritchey Butano bars, Shimano Sora 9 speed and DT Swiss G1800 Spline wheels with Pirelli Cinturato M 35mm tyres for gravel and DT Swiss C1800 Spline wheels with Gravelking Slicks 32mm for road.

That shot of Julie approaching across the fields at about 6:22 - I'd print that and hang it on the wall. Busting through the flora like that is great fun isn't it - even if the bramble scratches do sting a bit in the shower afterwards! Another great ride!

lol :) Comical, Mike has a little chuckle just before his crash... and another after. I am finding that some rights of way seem a little more overgrown in places this year than usual. As long as they're solid under wheel then that's at least half the battle won. A detour visit to the Crowman's Barn to learn the Scarecrow Hop!? That dance would come in handy to crunch your way through the brambles! :) Many years ago, I had family that lived quite close to King's Somborne. It's a good job that myself, sister and cousins at the time, did not know that Ten Acre Field was just a couple of fields over from where we used to play... or else all our parents would of repeatedly heard, "Please can we go to Worzel's field!?" It wasn't until many years later that I realized just where Ten Acre Field is on Furzedown Road... Another cycle destination on the list!

Cheers Trevor 👍Yeah the ground was good but as you can tell the occasional rut was lying in wait to catch us out... Damn sneaky hiding under the bushes🤣 Feeling a bit fizzy from stinging nettle the next morning, great fun ride though 👍

I was waiting for Julie to ask if the camera was still running :) and you could use a dual chainsaw attachment for the front of the bike for some of those trails

Omg talk about a path well trodden! I don’t think those paths were! Bet you had loads stuck in your chains and other components, including skin! Still looked great fun ride tho, some lovely scenery and so quiet too bliss. I can’t wait to get out this weekend again. We’re off hunting more relatives from our history . Then hopefully I’ll get a longer ride in Sunday.

Cheers Michelle, we both did have a few green hitch hikers! Percy also decided to fend for himself in the undergrowth - , he was not on my bike at the end of the ride! 😐😒

that was a sticky ride ! i just installed a new $9 tube while watching the video and it was fine for 10 minutes and then it popped like a gunshot , my ears are still ringing - i hate when that happens

Hubby and I are now debating changing our road winter bikes for gravel bikes as it’s a slow process on the road with MTB’s 🤔 great vlog as always. Don’t think I would have enjoyed the very overgrown parts though

Thanks for the comment Geraldine. Gravel bikes work really well as winter bikes, extra tyre clearance, room for mudguards (if you're that way inclined), narrow or wider tyres depending on your use, they are very adaptable. If you want similar speed as your road bikes the only question is 1x or 2x. I would say nearly all gravel bikes come as 1x now but that will definitely be faster and easier than an MTB.
