I had an incident happen like this to me. It was a few years ago and my friend texted me at around 8pm. I didn't think much of it until at the end of our conversation, he said "Thank you bro, i hope you have a good life ahead of you. Goodbye." Since my father was a psychologist, he taught me his work, so i knew what he meant by that. I called my father and we drove to his house. There, we saw him at the front of his window. So, i barged in his house and convinced him to come outside. We talked for a bit and my father also did too after me, i didn't really know what they talked about since i went to the car to try and forget it. After that, he became open and actually got help. He's still alive and well.

Exact same thing happened to my homie at 3am it was supposed to be our boys night but he didn't come. At first we thought he was sick bcz he said that 2 days ago. Then when the others are asleep i was still awake. I was trying to eat cuz I'm hungry at that time and then i got the text. At first he was talking about the good time we had and as we chat he said "thanks for everything". My heart droped, i was trying to wake my other homie that can drive (cuz I can't) but he didn't wake up. I told him to wait that I'm coming but that message was delivered not even seen. The next day we got the news. 2023 is not my year.

This happened to me pretty recently He was a good friend of mine for about 5 years I was completely shattered. My family found out I was suicidal because my cousin, against my will, told them My dad called me a coward, my sister looked like she could care less (and she still, to this day, hasnt asked me if I’m okay), and my mom was concerned for like a week All this to say, I’m glad to see so many people saying they’d react this way for their loved ones

I've this happened before. But there was no "Thanks for everything.", it was a simple "I love you, man." I was a little confused, gobsmacked even, but I told him that I loved him too and tried to go back to sleep. But then it hit me, I woke my ass up and got up and immediately called him. i have been the guy who has said thanks for everything. i came close so many times during high school, my entire life was a mess, and i never thought i would make it past 16. its been like this since i was a child. the one person i thought i could rely on left me and it destroyed me. im still here though. i turn 21 in a couple months which is crazy to me, since i thought i would be long gone by now. im not gonna say it got better because the road i walk is paved straight through hell. i will never be "normal", i have disabilities related to my mental health, and honestly im just glad i can take medication so i dont have to go through elector-convulsive therapy like my grandfather did. but i exist, and thats better than being dead. at least i might get to see some flowers along the road

Probably no one gonna read this, but I also had something similar happen to me, but I didn't connect the dots. Ex-Friend of mine got accused of being a p*do by an absolute psychopath of a woman and even just an empty accusation meant his dream of being a teacher was shred to pieces in an instant, as it prompted an investigation. Even if nothing was found, the investigation was an indication of "what if" that smeared his reputation. He sent me a message as I was going back from my soul-draining work and I thought something was wrong and answered the message, asking where he was, but I got no answer. Next day he calls me from the hospital and asks for clothes and stuff and a place to crash, as he failed his attempt. I brought him stuff and let him crash in my place as I helped him get his life together to the best of my ability at the time, which sadly wasn't much. Yet he became an ex-friend because after further 8 years of friendship, he decided he wanted a different friend group to hang out with. We are no longer friends. This sort of video is really painful to watch. Makes me feel that maybe I didn't try hard enough.

i had this happen to me, but not exactly. in seventh grade, i had a suicidal friend. they cried in school, we talked, and comforted them. i thought it would get better, i really did. until on phone call, they told me, "you know, a week ago, i actually tried to commit suicide." that broke me. i hadn't texted them for a couple of weeks, and it broke me. it broke me, knowing that if i had texted them, if i had called them, would they have done this? would they have tried to commit suicide at their house? i felt shocked, guilty, and upset of myself at that moment. it broke me, knowing that i wasn't there for a friend i knew for so long. i was sad, yet i was happy that they survived because of their sibling. even if i never saw a person commit suicide or got a text like that, the brutal truth of knowing that a close friend of yours almost committed, and that hit me hard. it broke me to know that at that moment, if their sibling hadn't saved them, i would have never seen them again. never. and the last time i would have talked to them would have been weeks or months ago. it made me feel like i didn't try my hardest. i feel like i changed a lot after that, noticing small little details if someone is feeling down, or having a bad day, comforting my friends through their had times. i've definitely changed a lot from this experience, and. i hope my efforts go into something. i don't wanna experience that feeling ever again, knowing that my closest friend had almost died, yet i did nothing. (sorry for the long ass story, i just had to get this off my chest.)

The horror of suicide is that the victim is also the murderer. It's difficult to deal with rage of vengeance and grief of loss simultaneously. I have learned to separate out the feelings and take the emotions as two individual situations. I would think to myself "Goddamn that bastard for murdering my friend," and "I'm so sad that my friend died." Eventually when I worked through each side separately enough, I was able to combine the feelings into something cooler and more easily synthesized, like pity.

I don't usually share things like this to strangers but I feel compelled. I had a friend commit without a text or anything. I had been with him the whole day before he did it. I knew he was going through it at the time but I did not know it was like that for him. When I dropped him off I wanted to say something very specific and vulnerable. I don't know why I wanted to say it but it was a very strong urge. I ended up watering it down quite badly, instead of just saying how I really felt. I can't help but feel like if I had said what I truly felt called to at that moment, that he might still be here. I don't blame myself. I miss him. I use it as a reminder to be open. In the past I don't believe mental health issues, I had a friend in middle school he is depressed and some shit always talk about how suicidal he is but back then I just found him annoying and I kept asking myself "how could people think about ending themselves?" But after a few months I started to believe about mental health issues because I have experienced it myself until today and I feel guilty and regret for neglecting my friend's mental health and I wish I had the courage to apologize to him. Fr, this happened to me once, I was just chilling watching some RU-vid and eating some left over burger, (yes, I’m American) once I received that text I grabbed my keys and ran out into my car with only underwear on because I didn’t want to risk losing my homie I met in pre school, I turned on the car, and started going over the speed limit, a cop was on my tail but I didn’t stop, I lost control and spun out, but that didn’t stop me, my homies house was a block away, I was running so fast I started to have trouble breathing but I kept going, my homies door was locked so I kicked the hell out of it. I saw him in the window grabbing a knife I rushed into his room, took the knife away from him, and gave him the biggest hug while I was crying my eyes out. The cop understood what I was speeding for and I paid him like 500$, I now live with him with another homie, so that if one of us is gone he won’t get to do…. yk.

Really sweet to see this comment section filled with people who really care and know the urgency of a message like this. There are many cases where people joke about it leading to the worse outcome since suicide and mental issues are oftentimes overlooked as not really serious.

Unfortunately, I have actually sent this text to multiple people before in the past when I was in a much worse place. Not all of them knew the exact dark implications on why anyone would send them these texts and only my family would’ve been able to do anything about it but, after how many times they’ve heard it from me, I was too scared to express it anymore even if I needed to. For some of them (preferably my closest online friends), I’d say something like “I’m sorry if I can’t talk to you anymore” and/or “Please live a long life” or “Have a good life” to give more of a hint. You can imagine how that went. Thankfully, I don’t do this anymore because, it’s a terrible thing to do even if it’s understandable. I’m very lucky that I still even have family and friends despite all that I did. Can’t say I’m not suicidal anymore. When it comes down to it, I’m too much of a coward to do so because it’s scary plus, as a Muslim, I still believe that there is no way of getting out of hell for anyone who commits suicide.
