Hey guys! Sometimes buying pre-loved bags can create a lot of work. I purchased this Dooney and Bourke Florentine Brenna Satchel on Poshmark for less than 1/4 of the retail price. But, it came at a cost. This bag is dirty! It has pet hair and dirt on the inside, and the leather is worn. Come check out the elbow grease I put into making this bag clean and work for me.

Smells from preloved bags are so hard to get rid of, and I’m very sensitive to scent. I have placed a bag outside under a covered deck for a day to let it air out, I’ve very carefully set an opened bottle of a favorite essential oil inside and let it sit for awhile, I store a lavender sachet in my worst offender.. although I’m not a big fan of the lavender scent, it’s better than the smell I’m trying to dissipate. Overall, I’ve found the best way to tackle getting rid of someone else’s funk after I’ve cleaned it like you did is to use the bag, give it time, and fresh air, fresh air, fresh air. Good luck... you do have a beautiful bag there!

Baking soda works too. Sealing it in a bag with a sachet of baking soda also helps. But I can also attest to letting it air out. I've even hung bags out in front of a fan to speed things up

You can probably use dryer sheets too, to make it smell better.

@@MeticulousShopper Actually the inside was worse. It had chewing gum sticking in and black dirt or similar it was a charcoally powder. I really wanted the bag and started cleaning it and then i was no not for a full price bag...I buy my dooneys now at nordstrom or so. How much did you pay for it? I got a coach ace satchel in fog and its in ok condition and I need to get some suede cleaner to fix it but I keep wondering if I should have returned it, but i kept it because is so hard to comb by

I paid about $100 with tax and shipping. I agree - It's hard to decide whether to open a case and return, because the bag can be so much better with some elbow grease. Ultimately, I think it just depends on how much work you want to put into it!

The black dye on the clothe is normal. I did that to my Florentine satchel when I got her brand new from Dooney. She had white residue on her when I got her and cleaned her and the black transfer is normal. But I recently got another Florentine satchel preloved & I need to deep clean her! She’s rough!

If there was black dye, the seller should have disclosed it, even if it's normal.

@@MeticulousShopper no. My first Dooney that had the dye transfer I bought straight from the Dooney & Bourke website lol. The second one I got had no dye transfer. None at all but she’s like 9 years older than my first Dooney.

You really should get a stronger stomach if you're going to buy pre-owned and think pet hair is THAT gross. This bag's interior was pretty tame compared to some others out there.

I’m a handbag fanatic. From luxury to budget bags. I think how a woman uses and cares for her handbag speaks volumes about her and her personal habits. Think about it most women always carry a bag because it is an extension of themselves. Therefore; those disgusting dirty bags speaks volumes about its previous owner. Thanks for caring for this beautiful bag.

I don't judge people based on how clean their bags are. However, I do start to judge someone who tries to sell a filthy bag like this, claiming it is new and clean!
