This is not only sad but embarrassing. My husband and I used to attend this church in the past (before we met). Ever since the 2020 racial/civil events and the change in church leadership, the theatrics grew. Preaching has become more about feelings and incorporating worldly things into their messages. Plus it’s a mega church and it’s difficult to know other members, especially the elders. We left during 2020 to find a smaller church that adhere to the Gospel and we love it. The preacher sticks to the Word; there’s biblical praise and worship based on Scripture (we sing hymns); there’s intentionally and accountability among the brethren of the church; plus we know the pastors/elders and their families personally

moving to knoxville tn has been one of the most frustrating awkward, yet humbling learning experiences ive ever had (im from nyc). I just wanted to join a church involve myself in some small groups etc, however it was 99% white in the church (and everywhere else) and quite a few times im just chillin and someone would out of no where bring up a topic and ask me about it specifically cause of my skin color or make sure they knew i knew they knew i was black lol as if i could hide it humans are so strange sometimes myself included cause experiencing them treating me a way also brought light to some of my behaviors. During this time i stopped using the N-word and have just examined a lot of my learned behaviors and thoughts about other ethnic groups. id rather just not have to be constantly reminded of something obvious lol like duh i know im black and i know you know also so lets just treat each other how Jesus commands us to sheesh lol. I’m a 61 yr old black man. I say that for context. Our community has “Stockholm Syndrome” and that, along with woke-ism and a myriad of other “emotional hot buttons” are easily pushed. I have been saying for decades the world is moving into the church. The world is now in the church through “progressive” Christianity. No such thing, but here we are. We didn’t stand up to it. We forsook “ESSENTIAL DOCTRINES OF THE HISTORIC CHRISTIAN FAITH”. That is how you protect the precious thing God has given us. We caved to women pastors, LGBTQ, and victim hood mentality. We can’t even face the truth about MLK Jr. We can’t face the truth about not only black on black crime but the black CHILDREN that lose their lives at the hands of black men and other black children. We focus on what these race hustlers tell us to focus on. George Floyd etc. This was already long enough. I could keep going. We’ve lost our back bone as a body of Christ. I wonder about the journey that leads these " spiritual leaders" to this juncture. What influences their perspectives and decisions to bring these complex and often divisive topics into the church? And for the congregation, what makes it challenging to discern these influences and choose to walk away if they feel it’s necessary? I understand that scripture can be interpreted in various ways to address these issues, but I’m curious as to why these interpretations persist and even proliferate. From small community churches to large megachurches, these themes seem to be becoming more common. As a firm believer, I see this as a multifaceted issue and genuinely wonder about its prevalence.

Typically, I agree with your content - however, I was there when this happened. I used to work for this church and Pastor Olin is a man of godly character. This was actually meant to be a personal message for the staff and it was recorded because this happened during COVID and many of us were remote. With what we understood about Floyd at the time (this was literally only a week or so after), I believe he was just being raw with us about the emotions he was feeling while trying to reconcile that with who we are called to be as Christians.

If the Lord said all this then why didn’t he take pcp before he did all this in his garage.

Pastors please understand that the remedy to tragic situations and social justice issues is not theatrical, made up stories meant to engage the mere emotions of an audience. The remedy is The Gospel. To preach Christ crucified over and over and over again. A powerful presentation of The Gospel, given in the power of The Holy Spirit WILL yield fruit. You don’t have to rely on your story telling mixed with a little out-of-context Bible, to get people to care for the brokenness of the world. I don’t think people realize how absurd these experiences sound. So God, in His infinite Wisdom sought out this Pastor and explicitly told him to do these things? And somehow this advances His Glory? The math isn’t mathing….

We can’t use our faith to negate the very real realities of injustice. It’s important to exercise compassion. George Floyd’s death was a tragedy. Black on black crime is a tragedy. All sin is tragic and should move us to compassion. That compassion should move us to witness. Now, this type of racial fetishization of black pain - where seeing black people cry, weep and be oppressed moves white people emotionally - is not compassion in most cases. We do need to stop this pandering. However, it does not negate the reality social injustice does exist.

How about the victims that suffered at the hands of this criminal? He was no innocent. Does this man shed as many tears for aborted babies ripped alive out of the mothers women? This was definitely cringe, entirely inappropriate, and unbelievable. My 4-year-old niece laughed at the man crying. But what does CRT have to do with anything? I feel like we have some anti-Christian buzzwords that we like to use, but it is not explained why they are considered anti-Christian. Wrong on both sides?
