He will find another designer and that's all. it seems to me, according to some reasons, that Chris's business is growing at the expense of inexperienced young designers who want to learn how to run their design business, but not at the expense of sales of "the futur" design services. now the demand for this in the world is growing, so Chris realized it and straddled the wave. all he does in almost any video is convincing people that they can just charge a big price and the client will pay it! but in real business there are no role-playing games, but experienced tycoons who have a lot of their own methods of solving their business problems. and design is not the most important thing in their arsenal)) so such confidence of the local public reminds me of a sect, I'm sorry to say. I myself am a designer with 10 years of experience, so I know what I am saying. But anyway I'm thankful to Chris for the channel as it brings value, no doubt! You only should think by your own head, guys😉

he’s saying you have two options, pay me upfront or pay me through royalties. The deal is equally good for the producer, and that is the point. The client is worried about risk, so the choices shift risk.

And they didn't meet at 1thousand, he just meant that 1thousand is the max. in terms of risk he's willing to take, problem is, the risk is bigger if he just get's the 1000 dollar product compared to getting a banger product but having to cut half of his profits. So it's either 50% or maybe Idk 10k for the same banger, wich would be then the clients risk, but on the other hand he would get 100% of the profits... it's not really shifting worth, it's shifting risk wich automaticaly shifts the financial component, but it's not making it bad.. the money might be worse, but the risk is way smaller... idk how to explain this even easier.. like.. have you ever pulled on a hoody string???

Worth is in the eye of the customer. Being cocky and assuming you'll always make your customer rich is a good way to toss any reputation you have into the dirt. I wouldn't hire this guy because there's gonna be other ways to get the results and his attitude just shows that he probably wouldn't be easy to work with either

If Nike is contracting you 9 times out of 10 you dont waste your time with clients who complain about your rates. The price is the price if you dont like it move on. The client is able to come to his own conclusion about the true value of the creative's work.

@@Skottink Well.. that's not quite right.. I do take risks.. all I meant is.. I take managed risks.. confidence has nothing to do with the outcome , it can take you either ways. So if you are confident and your bet goes against you in most cases you will take a hard hit. On the contrary if your risks are managed and you are not confident you still will survive long to take more calculated risks .. risk management is what decides how long you stay in the game.. confidence has nothing to do with the outcome.. all it can do is make you feel good .. that's all there is to it...lol

I have been the most confident guy all my life..still am .. but had never been that successful.. the moment I learnt risk management and combined it with my confidence.. its a different ball game now .. learnt this with time and experience.. sharing my two cents.. take it if you like it.. reject it if you don't.. il respect you either ways 😅👍 and yes no one can be successful without taking risks...so yeh I do take risks .. 😅 cheers

I used this logic when a guy asked me to do promotion for a dance party he was hosting: flyers, videos, etc. My normal fee is $150 of the final revenue (pretty generous, I’d say, b/c I’m relying on his honesty to pay me after the fact). He said he didn’t wanna drop $150 and asked to negotiate. I said okay: admission is $15, give me $5 per head. He agreed. The party ended up being a huge success and I walked away with $475.

@@damd2999 capitalism biggest misconception imo. In the USA, you are given the false sense of security that if you pay more it’s for better quality. Unfortunately this is not always true. Sure some goods are obviously more expensive for a better product. However, this video is not about a product it’s a service. Similar to the way your personal mechanic is probably a lot cheaper than a chain shop. They will do literally the same thing for vastly different prices

Basically stating if your trying to sell a job to a client make them feel like the price your charging isnt overpriced but only a minor speedbump onto a long road of success. The dude acts smart but doesn't understand how contingency works and yeah the other dude is stupid as well because neither one discussed a hard limit on what can be paid. I'm not giving 50% for all my increased business because not all of my increased business is because of your little project. Set a line at 2 or 3k but the deal is a rip-off.

Sooo good! I don’t feel guilty about my prices anymore. I charged low when I first started and that brought me crappy customers who didn’t value my creativity or my time. They didn’t value it because I didn’t value it. Once I realized that I was worth my creativity and my time then I attracted better and bigger clients who didn’t mind paying the asking price. This also automatically weeded out the people who would potentially waste my time. It baffles me to hear people who want a lower rate. What designers charge one time per project is far less than what the client invested in addition to what they will get back after selling X amount of products. KNOW YOUR WORTH!! You can’t get your time back.

Yea who is that guy I need to learn from him. Getting paid what your worth is my dream. I know he has a diff video on paying X amount per hour vs X per job. I hate when my boss used to say if your gonna do this job I'm expecting you to take this many hours otherwise I feel you didn't earn it. Plus the customer expects it to take X hours. My response was why do you care. If I finish in an hour and the job is done perfectly what does it matter if it took me 1/3 of the time "other people" spend. That whole scenario. So you pay me less cuz I'm faster and way more efficient. And you have some ridiculous time-frame. Not to mention a customer only feels like that because the boss conditioned them too. The end result is all a client should be focused on not some universal clock that doesn't exist. So to that smart guy teaching get at me plz. I'd love to talk to you.

I like his approach. When I dealt with new customers I got rid of the fear of rejection by saying, "they are going to do one of three things. Accept, reject, or negotiate." So I made a plan for all three. It became natural in time.

@@sohel4026 3 plans for each road that can be taken, if the deal gets rejected, it's only 1 or 2 things you can do which is take it, or try to negotiate the rejection, if the deal gets taken, thats done already so that plan is easy, and lastly the hardest of all 3 plans which is if they try to negotiate the deal, there's many things that could happen but it's up to your experience and smarts so if your super good at negotiating, you can use there wanting to negotiate to your advantage.

This is real world, the client will continue to say no to your offers and if you cannot do a high budget video under 1k, eventually the client will spend 10k and get something terrible made by someone else. Seen this exact scenario dozens of times being in the film business

You can tell a crowdfunding campaign will be successful or not pretty much based on their video quality alone. If you don't have any track record, you can't pull this one off. He's not robbing people?!! He's offering a high-quality service. You think that charging more for a video is "robbing people"? Coca-cola spend 3 billions a year on publicity in average. They don't even care if they lose money in direct-to-consumer sales. What people like him charge is *nothing* compared to the traditional marketing agencies. Agencies are robbing people and been doing so for a long time. Not freelancers.

the thing you're not understanding is that hes not trying to convince him to let him keep the 50%, he wants him to take the original offer and in order to do that he proposes another solution which seems like a win and a loss at the same time, so hes more likely to lean back and take up the original offer, but no matter the option he picks, the one proposing is winning either way.

@@ashikurrahman1768 what you’re not understanding is that $1000 one time means that there’s no guarantee or faith that the content of his video will be worth anything to his customers. Taking a percentage of his customers' future profits in perpetuity gives both of them an incentive to succeed. He better put out an excellent video, so he can get paid. Asking for a one-time payment before anybody sees the content of your video means that you can do the bare minimum and piss your customers off, but it won’t matter to you because you walked away and deposited $1000 in the bank.

What you all are failing to realize is that he is taking all of the financial risk, which means that if the video fails, the client is out nothing and the investor is out 100%. I would propose for an invest of 100%, full risk, for a duration of 6 months or maybe 1 year for initial investment. Options maybe worth checking into.

I did the same thing with a client, he was also scared I would do a banger video... and for a minute he said yes, until I said "awesome, let's get it on paper"... he then said "you know what, let me think about it"... and that was the last time I heard from him. For some folks even zero risk is not enough.

Yeah, but its not really zero risk any more than an item that cost $1 and sold for $2 is 100% profit. To get 50% of every new customer implies without a video there would be no new customers. I've watched a few of these and they are essentially very good but I've yet to see an actual number. When actual values are used the numbers aren't always going to make economic sense.

The risk factor of unknown results is worth more to either side. You can take the risk, pay him only $1000 for his work and own results (positive or negative), or he will take the risk and pay him whatever it brings in results (less or more than that $1K).

The only question the “client” needed to ask was, what’s my LCV? If the average customer spends $1000 with you over time and is costing you $50/customer to acquire the customer, you don’t know your numbers. The other question was, 50% of the first sale or of the clv? Which still can be a good deal depending on your margins

not really, depends on project scope and what not. Talked with an acquaintance that worked with music, his music ended up in a really popular videogame, he opted with a royalty like deal, it raked quite a lot of cash, but nowadays he earns almost nothing from it, since that game doesnt sell anymore. By what he says, it mounted to a little more than the one time pay, so if he needed the money back then immediately, both would have been satisfactory. So it really depends, you gotta think that most projects aren't necessarily have that great of an impact, so one time pays have a place.

If you manage foreseeing the projection of what the investment will bring in revenue, if said projection is lower than another investment, you'd rather have your money now and invest into another project that would bring better revenue. It really depends on many factors, and getting cash in one payment has its place, since, as in the example of my acquantaince, if youd have by the end of the lifetime of the project the same amount as an upfront payment, you might be better off getting an upfront payment and investing with that money.

He cut deals that had zero residual for the upfront to survive until the next deal, which may or may not have been residually profitable either, then repeated this until he built up his capital enough to reach for the more risky deals

When Louisa May Alcott presented her manuscript for Little women to the publisher they thought it would sell to a very small audience and that they weren’t likely to make back the cost of buying it from her. So it was proposed that she let them have it for free but she would receive a small amount from every copy sold.
