Although there was still discrimination, for that time it was a huge step. Imagine how much hatred the LGBT community suffered back then... it was the high peak of aids... only twelve years later equal marriage started in the Netherlands... and the rest is history, still being made.

My husband and I got married in Arnhem in 2004. The official was very strange and clumsy. The worst part, however, was the first dance at the party. Very inconvenient and it seemed to take an hour. With all my extended Catholic family members (on my mother's and father's side) and all my husband's friends present.

And what a beautiful times it were! Seems like most of the people were open to progress, integration, human rights. You had well functioning welfare state and we in Poland wanted to join in. Back then what we now call populism was barely a margin of society. Now we all have wild capitalism, no regards for human lives - check Polish Belarusian border! We have racism as a way of live, crippling economies, housing crisis and our societies turned to populism en masse. Where is the Europe we in Poland were once so keen to ‘join’ ?

To be fair Poland and Hungary has been the major stopping block to the European progress for decades, its not Europes fault that you choose nationalistic governments.

1:29 Eigil Axgil died in 1995 at the age of 73. Axel Axgil died on 29 October 2011 at the age of 96. 2:01 As of the couple wearing white suits, psychologist Ove Carlsen and Lutheran priest Ivan Larsen, they were still alive, and still together, in 2023, according to an article in Danish.

It's a legal contract. Why bring religion into it?
@TainDK
@TainDK 13 дней назад
Because even though the places of faith do not recognize the religion of individuals - those individuals with faith still have faith... In Time some of these ceremonies where also done in churches (churches that allowed it to happen, and not something forced onto the congregation) - but the "contract" signing had to be done by someone who was not the pastor, an outside of the church guy, mixing the 2 together somewhat and after 22/23 years - the churches opened up for marriages there alongside the state - but the civil union was not unlike marriage - from 1989 there was 4 things that differed from marriage and civil unions - 1 being about adoption, which changed through the years, but at the getgo in 1989 it was not a right - also the right to be recognized outside Denmark was not a given - the last 2 i cant recall, but in reality being in a union was almost equal to marriage in the eyes of the state. In 1989 the right to get a civil union was the goal, and then fight for the other (4) rights through time

Do you ask the same thing when a man and woman gets married in a church? One of these guys is a Lutheran priest, my guess is that he brings religion into a lot of things in his life.
