On this episode of Doug Wilson and Friends, they guys talk about recent events at Colombia University protests. On Monday night, Doug Wilson's grandson Rory Wilson went viral as he faced down a mob on Colombia University campus.
I saw this news story yesterday, and to their credit they mentioned that Rory is a Christian... I was engaged with some Christians here on YT yesterday about the re-emergence of Christianity into the culture. The topic was the use of violence (or not) when standing up against the mob. I was on the side that we Christians should eschew violence and be an example to others to show what it is to live a disciplined life. IOW, there are many things we can do in society, but we exercise Christian discernement and discipline when making these choices. The example that Rory and his friend made at Columbia is truly a "God moment" that exemplified the Christian principle of "being a light to the world". Their calm demeanor in front of a raging mob was very Christ-like and spoke volumes to a corrupted nation and set an example for how a Christian engages with the world.
Shown my 10 & 12 year old kids some of the clips, interviews and commentaries on these two boys and said that is what you are aiming for as Godly man … modern day biblical manhood and courage has a stalwart smile and knows what God says is right and does it cheerfully.
I strongly reject Jared’s premise that planning resistance is somehow less godly. Rory’s spontaneous courageous actions are essential, but we have lost our nation because neither Christians nor churches do any planning at all to resist lawless tyranny (with the notable & wonderful exception of the anti-abortion efforts).
We have no more excuses Church. Raise and train boys to be men, like this. We couldn't ask for better role models, School models and free exceptional teaching from platforms like Canon. It's past time to roll up our sleeves.
Oh man, this is good. What a refreshing perspective these men of God hold. I have grown so weary of the doom and gloom coming from so many Christian circles. These men are encouraging, inspiring, and hopeful for a glorious future. Excellent, indeed.

Guys. Where do I begin to equip and enable my children to fight like your grandson? My oldest are out of the home and have gone the way of the culture. I want to do it different for this next group of younger ones to give an effective defense and love of country. I have one who is reading through Omnibus 1 but there is not a compelling desire to want to learn. The Lord is helping me to reassess and I am convinced it is me that has to change if I want to expect to see real conviction in my children.

Look, is there any way Rory could speak to the graduating class at Logos this year? My granddaughter will be graduating and man, if she and her class could hear him tell his life-story thus far, well, who knows who may be inspired? It could have implications, and serious implications at that!

On 31:28 and quarterbacking- totally agree we need to not be critics of God's movements on our own sides. But, it also seems reviewing the game tape is how we get courage for the next call. I know Pr. Jared wouldn't disagree with that per se, but, it seems taking notes on Rory, imitating him, and contexualizing him as he imitates Christ requires a kind of quarterbacking assessment that's natural in a time of sheep without shepherds. Sheep aspiring to backbones, or showing backbones differently, are going to have to figure out what's going on- and unfortunately, many of us do our foaming hot takes online instead of with an open Bible with trusted brothers. 36:54- the fallacy of resulting, and overall fighting against the conservative fear of losing respectability right before this from Pr. Joe, and Paul flustered in Acts, and how to live under the blessing of God and pushing against certain kinds of popularity as you become popular, and enduring mobs. 40:25 - "When we pray for reformation and revival, we need to understand we're praying for mobs", and evangelical awakenings as marked by mob actions.

I see Godly leaders starting to emerge. Is there a way to communicate to the body of Christ the local churches beginning to awaken and support a Godly world view? Been searching for a church for 18 months in NC/SC. The doctrine is void, the theology is scarce, and the body is perishing.

All you have to do is stand back and watch them tear apart their own coalition, but instead people like you are insisting on stepping in to give their enemy the rallying cry they desperately need to unite their disparate factions against their favorite boogeyman.

12:04 With all due respect to Doug, I think there is one major entity/agent/behavior he is missing here and that is the outside agent trying to agitate and instigate. It’s been widely revealed how corporate entities and even our own government agencies have hired activists to agitate at numerous protests. But I understand why Doug would avoid that here as it would give more ammo to those who already see him as an extremist loon.
Maybe invite E. Michael Jones on to talk? I appreciate any stand on principle, but it is helpful to have a conservative Christian on with a different take.
Speaking pragmatism, too bad the same principle Rory exhibits and discussed here is not applied and exemplified by Doug Wilson et al regarding the presidential election. Apparently, the example there, in calling on the audience to "vote for Trump," is pagan pragmatism RATHER than principled Biblical Christianity.
Genuinely curious, I do agree that Trump is definitely not my guy. I often times including in 2016 voted third party candidate that was actually good, but I knew the at best they could squeeze maybe 3% vote. But what I'm saying in the current 4 years, I would rather try to limit or slow down the current damage rather than feel good for voting for someone who never had a chance well basically guaranteeing that the current situation extend another 4 years. God gave me the grace of allowing me to be born in a country where I can vote for its leadership, what would you suggest we do to minimize the damage and maximize the good
@@Sardious Character matters and bad character, especially a national leader’s sexual sin, has national consequences. God’s Word is full of lessons for us to learn from and apply to our situation today in this regard. As you say, in our country we have a role, under the sovereignty of God, in choosing who leads us. When we elect leaders, who are unqualified biblically, we are complicit in the result on the nation. Trump is an excellent, current, example along with many others, of course. It’s not an issue of feeling good about our vote as much as it is an issue of honoring God’s Law/Word and applying it…regardless of where the majority sits and regardless of what our limited view of what we think the outcome of voting for the lesser of two evils might be. This is pragmatism and not principled Biblical Christianity applied to voting and doing so for a Biblically qualified candidate…even if that means writing someone in…and believing God is sovereign. Wilson et al are guilty of this pragmatism sin. “Stemming the tide” is not a good strategy nor is it Biblical especially at the national level. We minimize the damage by starting with our families, communities, counties, state, etc. The bigger issue is not saving the nation from Biden; the bigger issue is saving the nation from God's judgment. So, apply Exodus 18:21 and go from there.
The slogans and the actions of these gullible, ignorant, and reactionary protestors demonstrate that this isn't merely about Gaza/Israel, but against "colonialism," meritocracy, Christianity, and Jewish people. And at what point do we give up on our countrymen and women who are kidnapped by a hostile government? The Gazans could hand over the hostages and end this occupation today. But, no, they love the optics of continued occupations and the innocents they slaughter by using as human shields.
Aren’t these protests against the indiscriminate killing/bombing of Palestinian civilians? Have these protests become violent or are protests now illegal? Peace.
