No, Listening to Douglas Wilson is not like listening to a Founding Father. Even making a claim like that is bizarre. It's like claiming that vanilla tastes like chocolate. The founding fathers designed the government around a God that grants freedom to humans. That was their justification for revolution. Douglas Wilson believes that everything happens according to divine decree. They are 100% completely different. Literally opposites.
I agree. Dough Wilson is definitely on my short list of trusted Christians. When I first heard him, I was impressed. Then I googled his name and was shocked at how much he was hated. But many interviews like this one reveal a Christian leader who fears God, and therefore fears no man. I am greatly blessed by the many resources Canon Plus offers. It has introduced me to other learned pastors and writers unknown to me.
Did you catch NBCs "hit" piece on Wilson last September? (Wasn't much of a hit ... they were mostly fair w/him.) Enjoy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ymyAXjc1je4.html
As a young man, I never saw this side of our Deputy PM and frankly if I did, it would have been like looking at an alien. Feels like missing a treasure. Great discussions.
I don't know why I've never heard of this gentleman before. Quite a wonderful conversation. John Anderson is the best interviewer anywhere - he brings his own amazing knowledge and understanding to every conversation and asks the best questions - and allows his guests to answer! Love John Anderson.
It would be an understatement that the powers that be are not going to help Right-inclined people to make connections with like-minded people and to learn about people like Doug Wilson. That's why you've never heard of him before.
Indeed. In this case, “the powers that be” don’t even have to try much because the influential evangelicals are busy doing their job for them. DW speaks truth too bluntly for their “winsome” taste; he exposes their weaknesses and unfaithfulness, and they can’t stand it.
Amazingly, Pastor Wilson made the national news media last September ... thanks for the help, NBC!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ymyAXjc1je4.html
Having been a card toting agnostic pseudo Buddhist for the better of 55 years, a twice baptized devout believer and completed several tours as a raging atheist, I must say Mr. Wilson articulated the case for doctrine as well as I have ever heard or read. Thank you Mr. Anderson.
It's cause you are weak minded and let someone else sway you from not being an individual, seek help from a professional and not this false facts spewing serpent
I put my son in a classical Christian school and he got an outstanding education. I never knew this man started it all. My sons school had 12 seniors when he started and his class had over 100 graduates in 2017. There is definitely a need
We really need to _Home School Every Child in America!_ Let's Do It! Why should any kid ever become any smarter . . . than MOM! Also, _Home Dentistry!_ - j q t -
@quill444 most home schools are a co-op. They meet a few times a week for classes. Different parents, usually with college degrees, teach all the children a subject they are qualified for. Lots of stay at home parents have college degrees. Some parents control their own business so could drop by and teach. My financial advisor would come by and teach finances/business to the older kids. We had 300 kids in our homeschool group. I taught wood carving as an elective. People with Biology degrees taught Biology etc. No behavioral issues at all ever. It's the perfect education system. Government school students have the lowest test scores in every category its the worst possible education and it wastes kids entire day. Most homeschool groups do more in half a day so kids can do their hobbies and learn other valuable skills. Some I knew learned Chinese others learned violen/cello. You don't know much about homeschool.
An odd statement that presupposes that something must be in the 'God' slot. Have you considered that it could be the case that nothing occupies that slot for some?
@Sean Moran I'm not sure how to words this, but I will try. I see two concepts in play here. One is the existence of something higher/outside of the material (time/space if you will). And the other is a person's consideration wherein they worship a singular thing/idea 'above all other'. I refer to the second as a 'God slot'. My previous statement only addresses the second concept. I'm saying that it is possible for nothing to occupy the 'God slot' for a person. The statement that I responded to was essentially saying that the 'God slot' cannot be vacant.
Thank you so much, both of you, for the interview, the kindness, and the clarity that characterize this interview and discussion. You both are gifts of God to thoughtful citizens.
😂 these guys? Be real they're just profiting off of a group of easy to convert individuals and made buisn3ss from it. He shall pay the price before (the real )jesus when its his time to go
I'm a retired public school teacher. What he said about the public schools is spot on. The students don't even stand to say The Pledge of Allegiance, and of course you can't tell them to or how disrespectful it is.
Besides what he says about public school, I don’t understand how any Christian could have ever been a public school teacher. Public school is 100% funded by theft. Theft builds the schools, pays the faculty and staff, and all transportation involved. It’s theft. How does a Christian reconcile working in a public school system.
Well, either Jesus was a complete fraud and liar, or He was/ is who He said/ says He is... and if He didn't rise from the grave as He said He would and as 4 men tesitify to and eyewitnesses of His resurrection (Matthew, John, Peter, and Paul) in the New Testament, then our faith is futile. Sir, if you would consider looking into the validity of Scripture and how it has been preserved and passed down to us (there is no other ancient book in history that has more manuscript evidence), you may consider that all that is written therein is true... And when and if this happens, you will see evidence in your own life (proof, if you will) that He is the One He claims to be. Something will happen to you just to show your faith is not in vain, I guarantee it. Your world will change. Beware, this road is not for the weary. You must carry your cross.. You are not a good person. You have sinned many times and need forgiveness from Him. You must repent and lay down your life in order to save it; and His gift is eternal life. He will raise you up on the last day just as He Himself was raised from the dead, and life eternal will be yours. Jesus is the way, truth, and the life- no one can go to God except thru Him. He is the gate and our great High Priest. Look into it sincerely. Call out to Him while you can. "God is gracious and compassionate; slow to anger and abounding in love." (Psalm 103) God bless. Please consider my words. You will not be disappointed. Again, it is not easy. It's not for the faint of heart.. but well worth it! You'll never be the same.. and one day you will thank me :) You're welcome (in advance).
I love this man 's thinking... never heard him before. It's like listening to an original modern-day Protestant Reformer. Where he places God in his life is truly wonderful - he actually has a relationship with Jesus proves: " as a man speaketh , so is he in his heart." And anyone who can love the most disrespectful Christopher Hitchens , is a saint. What a refreshing conversation; gave me hope. P.S.- liked the idea of Non-Government-Funded Christian Schools.
Doug is an amazing speaker and debater. And his “collision” with Christopher Hitchens was also a major step forward in the postmill advance of the gospel.
Wonderful interview from a wonderful host, I really respect the both of you. John I love your channel and your humble demeanor. Doug Wilson is spot on diagnosing America’s issues. American church leadership has become too preoccupied with seeker friendly methods, marketing and trying to get people to like them rather than becoming well read, articulate, loving God with their minds and standing on truth.
This was such a valuable conversation… not only was it easy to understand and it’s spurred me on to really understand the enemy, and arguing in good faith.
Trump's most important gift to this country was his genius for inducing the progressives to identify who they really are. He empowered and awakened us to the depth of our internal threat.
It is heartening to hear of these schools teaching the core values of Christian life.May they bloom where they are planted. It took far to long for Americans to wake up to the fact that the destructors of their country has been harnassed by their enemies to march through their educational institutions.
Most brilliant, informed and full of wisdom conversation I've heard in years! Absolutely fantastic. Thank you both. Voices of reason are in short supply these days
Excellent job gentlemen! Food for thought in a peaceful environment for those who want a civil future for our children while we wait for our true home where we can be in the presence of our savior forever.
Thank you for this interview. I first came across Doug Wilson when I bought a video about 10 years ago of a debate between Christopher Hitchens and Mr Wilson. Their fondness for each other and classical literature was evident. It is only in the last 2 years I have started listening to Mr Wilson more regularly. He is such a blessing. Grace and peace.
I am encouraged he was friends with the late Peter Hitchens. That says a lot about both of them. I admire that spirit of communion - even if diametrically opposed on the subject of God and religion.
@@seanmoran2743 I was referring to Hitchens and mistakenly wrote "Peter". Sorry for confusion. The late Hitchens' younger brother is "Peter" (who happens to believe in God - unlike his late older brother)
Probably the best explanation I've heard of the Trump phenomenon. Comparing it to chemo, because we know we have cancer. It's unbelievable how few people are capable or willing to make an analysis like this. Politics involves tradeoffs, you can't just criticize someone without reference to the overall context.
This very interesting conversation is a rarity. I listened to it in the bath, during washing up, and planning my shopping trip for tomorrow. In fact I am going to listen to it all again for days to come! Thank you both for an enlightening conversation and (as one of your other commentators said) “presenting Protestantism in such a respectful, agreeable and intelligent way” (rochellecaffee). Thanks to all.
Well, well. I've been reading DWilson since 1992 and this is the first I've seen him on the same visibility level as someone like Jordan Peterson. He holds his own as well as anyone. More coherent than Peterson, too, on average. I wonder when he'll be on Rogan.
Whatever an individual thinks about God, or the ideation of a God, His standards forever shall be greater than one’s own. Cannot argue with the Manufacturer’s Handbook.
For those of you outside the States or on the coasts, you might not realize that their is a substantial Christian homeschooling community that is teaching and living the way Pastor Wilson is talking about. And we are having 2-3 times more children than the secularists and mainliners. We will transform this nation educationally and demographically. Pastor Wilson articulates are worldviews well, although theologically we might differ on some Christian doctrine.
"And we are having 2-3 times more children than the secularists and mainliners. " Yes. This is increasingly important in todays world, where the fertility rates have fallen well below replacement.
Countries like individuals are going through 3 stages, growth, stagnation and decline, and the US state has experienced growth and the recession phase has passed and the features of the third stage have emerged. Getting out of the final decadence can be made by wise men who work to prevent state decadence.
I'm from the Palouse. Glad you got to drive through it. We aren't just the muscle of America, but increasingly we're also the tech people, the software engineers, the people who run all of the infrastructure. We do it all. Even in the tech companies that are rightfully painted as left leaning, the core people are split. The top and the bottom are the leftists, but many of the experienced middle are just shunned and self censoring for fear of losing their well earned positions. I think that, unfortunately, the best thing for our country would be another great depression ... it's either that or revival... I don't see a mass humbling of oneselves, and so the humbling will be forced upon people.. it's gonna get uglier from those who refuse to learn..
I just want to say that Trump and his bombastic ways was perfect for the times. Besides his great service with the Supreme Court picks, his greatest service was to rip aside the curtain on the platitudes of the politicians and their cozy relationship with the MSM. He exposed all the corruption in DC and in certain States. Trump and his 'mean' tweets did that ... and I think, he did that with so much humor ... had me laughing. A more 'Presidential' person would not have been that effective in doing that.
It's not just the March through the Institutions, it's the therapeutic self, it's the conception of freedom as libertinism, it's the aching void from loss of community and of family
The assertion that Trump and Biden both alike divided this nation, I shook my head vehemently. Glad Doug Wilson responded to that the way he did because it's just not true that they're the same. I voted for Trump both times and glad of it. Doug can't say he helped with the defeat of Hillary, even though he was relieved at the outcome.
I don't find it difficult to believe that an atheist and a theist would get along. I am in the former camp, and I can easily befriend a devout Christian so long as we don't clash on material political stances. I suppose such a conflict is easy to avoid because I am a political conservative, like so many believers.
Lovely and lively. Doug can throw a punch too in debate which would be interesting to witness. Jesus called some a brood of vipers, whitewashed tombs. Paul also was not slow in caling out the Sanhedrin Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!”
Christianity is the only thing that is new, and it's eternally new. Everything and anything else is just the same old same old. But, you have to forgive and love your enemies.
I admir parents who homeschool. They will have children who are not brainwashed liberals. They will be better educated well rounded good productive citizens
Yes, except for slavery, no vote for women, annihilating the native americans, starting wars with Spain to obtain land, sponsoring coups in many countries during the last century, etc. Other than that, a moral and religious people.
I voted for T in 2016 and never looked back. Trump will go down in history as Pulling Back the Curtain. Now we all know what we’re up against. Donald Trump is our present day Cyrus. God chooses sinners to do wonderful things.
