A curio this one.
Never heard of Planxty doing this song, which was originaly recorded by Foy and Maggie Gant (no, me neither)in Texas in the 1930's,but it probably stems from the late 19th century.
It was re-discovered by Peggy Seeger in the 50's and recorded again by Joan Baez in the 60's
Donal (surpisingly) duets with Andy.

Planxty should have let Donal take the lead vocals more often. He has a gorgeous gravelly voice.

I lived in Dublin for most of the 70’s and got to see Planxty a lot. The 70’s were a great time for Irish music.

I love how Lunny can pick with his whole wrist and arm and not move his body at all. His simple work with his instraments is masking his true talent with them! His voice is not often heard, but it is marvelous.

Planxty had a good grasp of American folk styles. This odd song was collected by John A & Alan Lomax. Good versions waxed by Mike Seeger and Ian & Sylvia in the 1960s

It was first broadcast on 18/06/1973 on RTÉ Irelands state broadcaster. It was recorded at The National Stadium Dublin, sometime during the previous summer, 1972 according to RTÉ. Can't find actual the recording date though. It was rebroadcast by TG4, Ireland's irish language tv station, the version above. I agree with you about putting the date on videos if possible.
