Add alot more years to that cause the arab slave trade existed before the transatlantic slave trade and lasted 13 centuries. When white people arrived they basicly just saw a flourishing slave trade already existing and thought "Oh I guess thats how they do things here...we could use some free labor too". The arabs helped them establish their slave trade. It all started with the arabs.

Yeah, I'm not sure what level of meta that joke is going for. Pre-roman European tribes were practically hippies compared to what was going on in China at the time. It's the big empires that do most of the damage, and those could be found just about anywhere.
@@TeacherDoug7 I think griffy based this joke on modern history where colonialism did a whole lot of damage to other countries, especially in Africa, but to some extend also in Asia. Of course people weren't living in perfect harmony back then, but it wasn't that bad in general as compared to when the "white man" came around and messed a lot if stuff up.

Like, africans were already enslaving each other in way higher numbers than was done by the white man. Africans sold africans to the Europeans. Arab slavetrade was waaaaaaay bigger than European slavetrade. Korea have the longest unbroken chain of slavery ever. Slavery still exists today all over the world outside the west. Slavery was the norm everywhere intill Europeans tried to ban it. It's just how it is.

However the winner's write the books so it could be plausible you guys were denied credit. This is based on a notion that Africans were only slaves during the era of the United States, when it is clearly known that slavery was practiced among winning African tribes/empires (such as the Dahomey, for example) and the Arabs long before the slave trade of the new world. It was a lot longer than "400 years", and not just by Western societies in the past. Humor shouldn't get in the way of basic facts.

Slavery for black people lasted way longer, because people forget to add the arab slave trade, that existed long before the transatlantic slave trade. The arab slave trade lasted more than 13 centuries.
Slavery for blacks lasted and lasts just as long as slavery for anybody else. It started when humans were able to capture animals and other humans, so several thousands years ago. And there is slavery today, mainly in Africa and Asia. The last country where it was legally abolished is Mauritania, that happened in 1981.
@@stefankatsarov5806it is estimated that currently there are more slaves alive than there were slaves during America's slavery history combined. There are slaves everywhere. In China, Congo, America, etc. And they exist as a necessity to support our technological advancements. but you don't hear anyone about that because it's much easier to complain about an injustice committed hundreds of years ago for your own convenience vs actually doing something about slavery. Just go to the American vineyards and visit the thousands of illegal immigrants who are kept as indebted slaves by the cartels for helping them across.
