When Hawaii Thought a Missile was Coming 

In 2018, everyone on Hawaii started their day with a notification telling them that a ballistic missile was heading for the state. What followed was the unsurprising panic that comes when everyone thinks a nuclear war is moments away. Thankfully, the entire thing was a huge mistake. So how did this happen? In short, an employee at the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency thought there really was a missile coming and sent out the alert. In doing so, he accidentally caused statewide chaos as people scrambled for shelter, hiding in steel shipping containers, manholes, and Zippy's restaurants. HI-EMA and Hawaii's Governor David Ige tried their best to answer for the mistake, but there's not much you can really say when your emergency management agency does the exact opposite of what it's supposed to do.
