My big dream is one day display some of my Care Bears, My Little Ponies and 80s & 90s Toys in a display cabinet! Maybe in the Basement once it’s cleared up and weather proofed better!!! But for now they’ll have to stay in my pretty bins 💗💗💗

You should get a curio cab and display them now. They’re going to sit in the boxes and you’re going to forget about them for another 30 years, when you can be enjoying them now! If they bring you joy, display them now and be happy. 😉😘

Those little charms were called Charmkins. I'll never forget the name because my daughter stuck one in her nose and we had to go to the ER to get it out! This was her era, same as yours. All the things you have I can remember buying her and her playing with them. She still has her ponies and a pound puppy. I myself loved all The Lisa Frank and Super Shades. I loved all the colors of notebook paper! I enjoyed her things right along with her since I never had much growing up. I really enjoyed going down memory lane with you!

My daughters (born in ''74 and '77) had those charmkins too, but I didn't remember their name! Weren't they sold in plastic capsules in gumball type machines, so you never knew which one you'd get for your quarter?

I call this "treasure boxing". Taking the extra time to clean & store your items in a way that makes opening the box a pleasure is so worthwhile. It's like putting together a present for your future self, using items that you already love! I treasure-box anything from holiday ornaments to cookie cutters to out-of-season clothes, time permitting. When I get the impulse to go shopping for a certain category, I make a point of opening up those treasure boxes before hitting the store. I find that I end up spending less on new things because I take more pleasure in my old things. In terms of displays: Remember that you don't have to display everything at once! I have wa-a-a-ay more decorations than I can display at any point (especially with my current pair of playful kitties) so I rotate things out, often just redecorating a single shelf at a time. The bookshelf that is currently features Harry Potter theme has been up for a while; I may switch to something like Dark Crystal or Labyrinth for a bit. And the Fraggle Rock shelf that's up now was a Sesame Street shelf over the winter, and may become a Muppet Babies shelf later. You can do the same thing with family pictures, rotating out what's in any given frame.

I have kept toys of my grandfathers from the late 1800s, now considered antiques. We put them under the Christmas tree every year. I am regarded as a minimalist by my friends and fam. Of mine, I have a tea set , I keep in the box and bring out on my birthday. We did not have as many toys as kids do now, but we never felt deprived. They were usually passed down, then passed on. I am a senior senior too.

Good! Keep it! People from the 1950s and 1960s started repurchasing things that reminded them of their childhoods! If you love it, it's a definite keep! If it makes you feel guilty for the purchase or a negative emotion or reminds you of bad times, let it go.

I'm decluttering my childhood things piece by piece. Its at my moms house so I do a small section at a time. But wow, its hard. I see my stuff which was so dear to me and I feel the emotions I felt during this period. I started hoarding then and letting stuff go is quite therapeutic. It hit me that it was kept due to a lot of anxiety and sadness. So I am really happy you are cherishing the little treasures that give you true joy! ❤️ Cant wait for the moment you can display them in the way you would like. 😘

I can relate to this. I’ve slowly been going through stuff when I go back home - it’s hard! I’ve donated a lot, and it feels really good actually. Stuff does hold emotional weight so it’s cathartic and freeing to let it go. I still have a LOT of stuff though 😂

Aw, Lisa Frank, the LA Gear keychain (I found mine when going through bins recently) so many familiar looking items. The Super Shades notebooks - my scrapbook from my Grandma is in one of those notebooks sitting in my bedroom currently. I do hope you’re able to put it out for display sometime, instead of keeping in totes. At some point after you have a little girl (that’s my hope for you 😉) you may end up passing stuff to her. My daughter inherited my home made (huge) Barbie house last year. Dad made it and had to keep going back to the lumber yard for more wood. When my hubby saw it pulled out for the first time he thought our property taxes would go up from the size of it (😂😂). I was just playing Barbies with my daughter. Most of what she’s playing with is around 30 years old. I treated my B and their stuff like royalty. Some day it’ll get broken and I’ll deal with it. My daughter said to me ‘sometimes I feel silly playing Barbies because I’m already 8’ I started laughing and told her that I’m quite sure I played B once or twice when I was 16!! 😂🤦‍♀️ Have fun with the nostalgia but keep in mind it’s just plastic stuff, it’ll eventually fade/break/whatever and we can never bring back that time in our lives so it is what it is 🤷‍♀️

I just found your channel tonight and immediately started binge watching😍! I am 20 and have moved out multiple times, always bringing more stuff with me as I moved from one place to the next. All this early instability in my life fueled my hoarding, but also showed me early on that it's nothing more than a scarcity mindset, like you said. And we have to grab that mindset by the ears and tell it when it's not correct! But seeing this one video in particular, wow, you spoke to my soul! "We all just want to remember being that little girl we once were" yes yes yes! I have been decluttering myself for the past few months and its been quite a struggle , but the best thing is when you allow yourself to be patient and not throw things away just because somebody else might have. I am SO very glad to have kept most of my childhood toys and memories, like you, it provides me with such a deep sense of nostalgia and happiness, unlike anything else. Anyways just wanted to drop in and thank you for your clever videos! Be patient with yourself and keep moving forward!

I love it! I'm so glad and so proud of you for doing this episode. A big misconception about Konmari is that it requires getting rid of everything - but it doesn't! Things like this that spark so much joy are definite keeps, and Konmari just means organizing and taking proper care of them if you DO choose to keep things, which you're doing here. Two small bins is not a lot of space for bringing that much joy, and you deserve it! I am not a hoarder, but I have some sentimental items from the 80s and 90s myself. So many memories!

this is a really big step that you recognize that some things are the most precious and you're giving them love and attention and SPACE to breathe. when you compare other items to these, it helps you focus on what matters a lot to you and what's just OK. take those store stickers off the bins NOW so they will come off clean and make cute labels for them instead :)

Oh Mrs. McIntyre, how you love your New Kids memorabilia! I was never into them, but I sure did wear the heck out of my L.A. Gear pink hightops back in the day. I had totally forgotten about that. But when I became a minimalist, I was ready to let go of most of the childhood things. I did keep my third grade journal and a few special little trinkets. To me it feels much lighter and more freeing now that I'm not spending time managing all the stuff. Good luck on your journey.

i know its hard to let go of childhood things, but when you speak i noticed some differences between some pieces. For Example, when you talk about the carebears or the new kids on the block binder, there is a lot of joy in your voice, but when you speak about that little "broken" bracelet, you didnt sound excited , or some things, where you couldnt say the exact memory . Might be a sign that you can let go of it without noticing. But all in all you did great organizing in this beautiful tubs. so you just know where your loved things are.

We must be about the same age as I had quite a lot of the same toys (Even though I'm in the UK). I totally understand why you'd never want to let them go, I'm very nostalgic about those kids of things too and it does spark joy to hold them in your hands. Most of my toys got passed down to younger family members so I have very little from my childhood (probably a good thing as it's just more to hoard haha). I remember being about 12 or so and giving all my dolls and barbies to a younger cousin but I kept my favourite one and loads of her clothes hidden under my bed. I still have them now and couldn't possibly part with them :)

Awe 💜🦄⭐️ I love that you still have some of those dolls & clothes!! Those are real treasures to keep!!! Some of my things were given away to younger family members too. I’m glad she only gave half of it away!!! Lol

I know this was last year, but I think you and me must be similar in age! I'm in the UK though, I've been decluttering for years now, I still have all my original My Little Ponies.. i can't give them up! I've been slowly getting rid of Barbie things on ebay and they sell well, but it's nice to see your stash as it's similar to my childhood!

Dress up your bedroom with the nostalgic things with little cute shelves here and there with groups or mixed groups of stuff on them. In my opinion, the bedroom is the best place to put nostalgic childhood stuff because it’s private and out of the way of other people, but you can invite people in to show them, and in your private space, if it gets cluttered or hoarded a little bit, or just busy with alot of fun stuff on the walls, well…it’s your bedroom. And then the posters, notebooks and other stuff not on shelves can go in the closet in your pretty bins, where you can take a look through them easily, or maybe even putting them in a small chest of drawers painted pink specifically for your nostalgic stuff that sits in your bedroom with flower decals or something decorating it for example, with some of the things displayed on top. Then you might cut back to only one pretty bin of stuff in the closet, or maybe you’d free up all the bins for something else, but that’s just my idea. I like my bedroom very girly with stuffed animals and vintage toys and other nostalgic things all over. I never put anything in my basement ever, because my parents basement had a pipe leak and it flooded and destroyed a bunch of my stuff in the bins, filled with water.

So weird to see Dylan ( and knowing he is dead) and Brandon on posters. BH90210 was so famous, it made all the way to Czech Republic in Europe, I was obsessed. I am 85' so we I think we share lot of that 80's and 90's culture.

@@ahoardersheart I think silica gel packs (amazon) would perhaps be better.

Definitely wouldn't do that - the oils could destroy things and the smell is incredibly strong it permeates plastic.
