The best middle class position is owning your house and not paying a mortgage. So you have one working parent and one stay at home parent. That way you have one parent taking care of the household and the other parent’s income just going towards the family’s lifestyle 😂

During the great recession, the housing market fell rock bottom. So the houses were super cheap and some people had to sell their houses to meet the month ends. This is genesis of homelessness. Now when economy improved and housing prices started to move up, a lot of venture capitalists and hedge fund companies started to see housing as an asset and started binge buying from the retail people. This is where things got really complicated. We can see the multi-millionare owning 5-8 houses but an average American wasn't able to pay the rent. Foreign investment of buying these under valued houses is another more reason of homelessness. This prevailed more in Los Angeles because a lot of wealthy people live there. When housing prices go down, they bought it which further widened the rich poor gap. It's sad to see America succumbing to crony capitalism.

It doesn't take much to be homeless these days, one wrong slip of misfortune almost anyone can be out on the streets these days unless they have very deep pockets and their own social support system, that is willing to help them if they fall on hard times. The USA does a terrible job of helping people who have fallen through the cracks of society. It also helps to keep people who are poor in the system by not giving them enough of a hand up to truly be able to remedy poverty and help themselves. Sadly, the deeper you fall, the further any salvation of a "normal life" again. Compounded by lack of empathy for those that are in need in this nation. A mentality of division, Us vs Them, until one actually hits rock bottom into poverty and near homelessness. Homelessness is and will continue to be a HUGE issue with income disparity/inequality and the rising cost of living! Many decent people are being "priced out" of privileged housing areas due to greed and the simple inability to sustain working 2-4 jobs in place of the 1 well-paid job that an affluent person has. The corrupt system, of everyone out for themselves, is doing a fine job of eroding humanity as well as affordable housing for ALL. The economy is supposedly so great, yet where are ALL the jobs that pay well enough for a person to live off one job, there's increased homelessness in many cities all around the nation in some cases these are people with degrees, not drug addicts, or criminals.

@@aliciabrowndocken4660 Oh please. Your comment is riddled with over-the-top virtue signalling. "Hey look at me, am I not just great?" You clearly have a very limited capacity to feel empathy for people whose life experiences were different your own. Crazy as it may seem to you, not all children of an alcoholic parent come away with the same set of experiences and, by extension, with the same level of mental trauma. Your over simplifying rhetoric comes across as incredibly immature: "Hey if I can survive the experience of having an alcoholic parent then I can't see why everyone else with an alcoholic parent can't do the same". Here's a parallel analogy just to show you how ridiculous you sound: "Hey I survived a car crash when I was a kid, so if I can survive it in one piece I don't see why everyone else can't survive one too". You clearly fail to understand that the degree of mental trauma suffered by kids of alcoholic parents varies enormously for different kids, just as the degree of trauma or physical injury from a car crash varies enormously for different people. Same event, different levels of trauma. This is where empathy kicks in. You either possess it or you don't. When you judge a homeless person harshly, without knowing anything of their past traumas or their degree of past inner suffering, your harsh judgment tells us nothing whatever about them, it only reveals your own personal shortcomings as a human being. Good people who possess a capacity for empathy know exactly what I mean. But if you don't get it .... then you just don't get it.

Most towns make them illegal. Businessmen and real estate speculators don't make enough money selling affordable houses, so they lobby towns and states to ban them. They only want to sell to the rich and not to the poor so they can maximize their profit. Also, towns are controlled by local businesses, and they don't want poor people livinig nearby.

I've got news for ya, living in an RV is not homeless. I've been homeless, many times in my 56 years. Thankfully, I'm not now. It's actually called "tiny house living" and though it's tight, it's very far from being homeless.

Been searching and praying for something to change… it was a big investment and it’s a big change but a necessary one. I’m hoping it will be more safe and bring some stability and independence back. Before I was renting rooms, and cohabitating with mostly strangers, it was very unpredictable and I had no power over my own life because at a moments notice, for whatever reason, they can just decide you have to leave. This way no one can tell me to leave except the land it’s on and in which case, roll out.. trying to be positive.

California has always been too expensive to live in. We were there in 1965 and the prices to rent or buy a home were outrageous. The women we rented a very small house from, about 600 square ft wanted us to buy her home for $65000.00. When we then moved to Michigan we purchased a hme for $20,000. That was 1500 square ft. The groceries in California were also expensive back then. There was also a luxury tax you had to pay for other things. I don't understand why that state is so out of control. I recently bought a home here in Texas 3000 square ft for 165,000.00 and this is 50 years later with a half care of land. and There Is No State Income Tax Here.

Yes you CAN survive without it. Build a tiny house or buy a reliably used RV and move to a less inhabited location near a waterway. Get solar panels, batteries, turn off the tube, get out and live outdoors, learn to fish, grow vegetables, plants, trees, tubers and fruit. Be your own boss. Get out of debt, get rid of every unnecessary debt. You will then find freedom and CHOICE.

Living in an RV is actually educational for the kids because they learn to be street smart, learn to save and the value of money, learn where to get help, maybe even learn how to fix things.

A big part of people struggling is simply corporate greed. Corporate profits rise and only the executives enjoy the benefits of that rise. Meanwhile the lower employees continue to struggle paying the bills and daily living expenses. Not all companies are like that, but many are. Look at the stats between wages being stagnant for years and years while CEO salaries ballooned to astronomical levels.

It is embarrassing and embarrasing that the world's greatest superpower treats its citizens in this way, in my country there are no homeless people, hospital and medical care are free, and everyone is entitled to a home, a place to live, we can not ourselves pay for it, bennefit from Guvement, so do our government, but we also pay everyone the highest taxes in the world, but it's worth all the money, because everyone is doing well in my country, so yes it's embarrassing to see the US treat its citizens so different. All other countries should make a model that we have in Denmark. Now we have also won the title as the world's most happy country and people in the world for 3 years in a row. why are USA so busy with the rights of others Contry's, and they must treat their citizens properly when you can see in us that there are so many homeless people across us and 20% can not afford to go to the doctor or come In a hospital, they spend so much money on weapons and wars around the world, and then they treat their own citizens so badly, it is above all criticism. i'm so happy that i'm born and live in Denmark.

Yeah because most people don’t have stocks. That has nothing to do with how well economy is doing. Until we address the income inequality and the fact that minimum wage is still $7.25 an hour I’m sure that homelessness will continue to rise. Sure you can say minimum wage is for students but it’s not anymore. I’ve heard housing should be 25-30% of your income. Many places that’s over $3,000 a month salary! At $7.25 you’re only making $1,160! Some CEOs will make that in less than an hour. And that is the problem.
@Whitneypyant
@Whitneypyant 6 лет назад
If they raise to 15 an hour in California it still won’t be enough. If you live in Los Angeles you would spend about 1,836 an month for a studio apartment. For the women in the video she would need about 2,000 an month for a two bedroom apartment. California is an expensive state to live in which is why majority of middle class families are leaving.

The year 2015 spring I lost everything I lost my apartment, I got evicted from my place. My car got repo, because I wasn’t making any payments I was working at a gas station but I was chasing a dream so I quite my job. I didn’t have no money or noting save up, I had no rich family members to help me.. so I end up homeless I move to someone house down south but they kick me out they place because they stole from our job. So I got fire, funny thing is the same person who fire me call me later on down the line and ask if I wanted my job back but it was way to late.. but back to the story I end up sleeping at a Grey hound station and I had to leave a lot of my clothes behind.. I smell bad like old sweat and dirt I look bad, I wasn’t eating food I ate when I can but it wasn’t the best food to eat. My clothes was dirty and I slept on Grey hound station floors.. i detox my body too I shave all my hairs off my body and head and throw away all my old dirty clothing. I had to shower for a hour to get the smell off me. Fast forward I end up getting a job at McDonald’s and a car wash and fast forward again I end up getting my real estate license and now I’m a sales broker also. I have my own place now and making good money now, I have a new car and a good career. I end up gaining 55 pounds by eating well and hitting the gym also, I have a lot of new clothing and underwear.. I shower twice a day and get haircuts every week and wear very good cologne. Went from wearing rags to wearing name brand clothing and suits to work. When people look at me you wouldn’t know I use to live on the streets. I am very grateful and thankful now And being homeless made me humble and very strong.

Veterans who served this country are up 57% for being homeless in this state, because many of their benefits don't cover full rent, and some suffer from mental health, then there are teens which make up about 24%, due to crisis at home, abuse, etc or the family can't afford rent. There are thousands of families actually sharing houses and apartments just to pay rent.

Natalie Deyton the only problem with that argument is let's say they did move then someone else would have to do the job that they did and not get paid enough and be put in the same place they are. I'm a computer engineer here in Silicon Valley and I see many people who do work at the computer companies work that has to be done by somebody and they don't make enough to afford rent so they live in their vehicles. Sure they could move somewhere else but then we'd have to find someone else to do the job they did and most likely that person would be living in their vehicle it is never ending. Having said that in 10 to 15 years my industry will automate most of these jobs that are done by low-income workers and they will no longer be needed they will then be free I guess to leave the state and go somewhere else to try and find work if they're lucky.

They forgot to include the monthly child support payments from the father. Also, if her photography job isn't paying enough, she needs to find a full time job to support her kids. - They're her primary responsibility. And her desire for a fun career as a photographer falls below health, safety, shelter, food, stability, school, etc, on the list of priorities.

Pink Panther A full-time minimum wage job would pay less than the job she has as a photographer. Do you know that she receives child support?? The fact that she is working, has put a roof over her children's heads and is feeding her children lets us know that she is aware of her responsibilities as a mother.

Author Tiffany Kelly You don't get it. Her PT photography sales don't pay enough. A FT job will provide a regular income. Amateur photography sales are sporadic and don't provide stability or cover a childs basic needs. People who choose to be parents, don't have the luxury of waiting around for a dream photography job. That would be extremely selfish. And you don't know that she isn't receiving child support or welfare bennies. You have to be aware of how the media is constantly trying to manipulate your emotions in order to promote a narrative. They deliberately leave out relevant facts and completely twist the story.

She would make less money with a full time job and get arrested for not watching her kid. What about making less money working 40 hours a week do you not get? She'd only make $1,760 a month before taxes working an $11/h job 40 hours a week and rent is $2,300.

Abram Carroll No. She wouldn't be arrested for not watching a teenage child. Lol. And she can make more than $11 per hour. She can work two or three jobs. It's called taking responsibility.

😄 Why isn't anybody talking about the OTHER ELEPHANT in the room? Its name? 'GREED.' But that would be 'too big of a nut to crack,' right? Not unlike any other time in history, greed has its consequences. But as usual...we only discuss the symptoms, versus the underlying causes of poverty. This in itself is a problem; a systemic one. Mother Teresa knew it. And people awake and connected to reality can see this 'OTHER ELEPHANT.' Having said that, until we address this particular ELEPHANT, the other one is going nowhere! (I am an ex houseless person of 9 1/2 years, 3 different times). Thank you nevertheless for this video. And perhaps, you may want to interview the super wealthy in your next video. 💡 I'd love to hear 'their take' on poverty; its causes and SOLUTIONS. Elise aka Godgirl P.S

Please check out Andrew Yang for President. Look at some of his proposed policies especially UBI. I never cared about politics before but this man has my vote. Google him.

As more rich kids pursuing RU-vid careers keep moving in our recently gentrified neighborhoods, food becomes even harder and harder to buy. Old mom and pop shops have become trendy hipster cafes where a freaking sandwhich is $15.

I went and spent $21 on a meal at a major fast food chain recently. I was appalled. Now I am more careful of where and what I order.
