Oh Amy...so much love :) As a fellow artist, we both know that speaking out against injustice and art are so closely intertwined that's hard to separate the two. And those who say 'stay in your lane' are ignorant that those lanes are one and the same. I remember you saying in your Courageous Compassion video that it takes courage for anyone to identify with the darkness we're all capable of. That has stuck with me for this long. You know what else is courageous? Seeing the world through the lens of what it could be, rather than what it is. You've always done that magnificently! We artists are naturally fine tuned to injustice, the human condition, seeing what can be done better and doing our best to do better because we know the world can be and do better...only to have the world push against it. So we push on, hoping our art move someone to think outside their normal box and chose to enlighten themselves and do better once they know better. It's hard..but I can't say I regret choosing this life. It forced me out of my childhood confines and see things from perspectives that are usually pushed down, and that gate can never be closed again...but I wouldn't have it any other way :) Idealists change the world by planting seeds where possible and we can only hope for growth from there. I'm sure I'm not saying anything that hasn't passed through your wise mind and empathetic heart already, but knowing there's others like us always helps :)

Thanks for your authenticity Amy, it really is grounding. Somehow I was reminded of your Janice Joplin impression, where you connected with her particular authenticity by internalizing her posture, her mannerisms, her speech patterns. You could feel her hurt, and your compassion shone through. It was incredibly moving to see someone demonstrate such compassion when we are bombarded on a daily basis with sarcasm, snarkiness (if that's a word), rudeness, bullying, etc. Likewise, your own willingness to express compassion for yourself here is equally moving, and a reminder of how we can stay focused while we observe the chaos in the world. Thank you.
