The number of times Saurav put his career on line for a decision & then come out tops is unreal ... Choosing Harbhajan to play the series against Australia Making Viru a career middle order batsman open the innings Playing 2 Spinners at headingley Making Dravid keep wickets Taking Kumble to Australia when no one wanted Decisions that changed the course of Indian cricket. Hats off to him.
It's funny sometimes.... Given how revered he was.... The amount of times he has to stake his captaincy to get his way ... Makes you think.... The sheer politics a captain's has to navigate through
@@cricketraazenglish I guess this was something which was possible for only a couple of captains in Indian history, MAK Pataudi & Saurav Ganguly. Because even if their career got hit, & they had to stop playing cricket due to internal politics, it would not have made any significant difference in their monetary status. They both came from a family of immense wealth. Even without cricket, they would have remained bloody rich. That's probably the reason they could put their career on line.
@@cricketraazenglish absolutely.. but then u'd expect a guy like that to handle somebody similar in a similar situation better, right? Thinking about the kohli captaincy fiasco... dont get me wrong i am a 90's kid and i absolutely love dada.. but the whole situation with kohli left a bad taste i felt!!
@@cricketraazenglish But still he is hated now! I love Kohli and every Indian does! But we need to understand that the aggressive play style that Kohli used to play was not something Kohli invented! It was Dada who brought this aggression and paved the way for this growth of Indian cricket! Yes there might have been politics involved to remove Kohli and I wanted hin to stay Test captain at least but still giving unnecessary hate to Dada is not justified! It is the whole selection committee and other people who make decisions like these! Then why just Dada? Loving Kohli does not mean hating dada! Only those so called Kohli fans are giving hate who don’t know about Dada and what he has done for Indian cricket! They are not real fans of Kohli!
@@renodestress8942I could imagine the short fused Finch to come down the ground every ball just to see Sachin although being in pain displaying a nonchalant test batting. To get salt rubbed on your wounds after the NatWest debacle.
While most touring teams now fall like a pack of cards in front of a good pace attack, that was not the case with Dravid. He could take the best they have to throw , blunt it out and still make runs for his team. A once in an era batsman, fortunate to have grown up in that era. Beautiful storytelling man!!!❣️
Watching him was like watching an ocean..... Like the waves..... Relentless, unflattering.... And given enough time.... Capable of Grinding the largest of mountains to dust... He wasn't the explosive shout..... He was the deadly whisper.... You don't even know when he took the match away from you...... Glad you enjoyed it brother🙏🙏
This match truly special to watch it livd for 5 days....watching Rahul toil for 1.5 days and then Sachin and Saurav destroy and demoralize England was truly a site to behold...not many times did we see all the "Big 3" score hundreds...this match was one of them
Maybe that last 11 overs for 90+ score prompted England to create T20 cricket? That kind of batting spell was mostly unheard of at that point in time.....Maybe England thought...Well, this looks like a new Cricketing format.......
When people today say India is where they are because of the current captains Dhoni, Kohli and Sharma when the real cricket fans know that it was Dada who laid the foundation of Indian Cricket to reach where it is and to instill the confidence and the never back down spirit that we get to see in series like Australia a couple years ago. All of this started during Dada's era because my dad always says that Indian cricket is where it is right now because of the sacrifices of Dada and Dravid. Dada taught the generations to never let go of matches till the last ball.
No one says that. Yes, Dhoni name comes bcz although yes Ganguly was the one who built the team but Dhoni took forward his legacy in the best way possible, working with the strong base he was provided to bring out the best results. As people say in life that older gen laid out foundation in the hope that younger generation will build it on top on that and experience the joy and privilege they never got. There was one Ambani given to two sons, one built it on top of foundation and made it way bigger and the other didn't and that's why Dhoni is appreciated. Dhoni had a strong mindset and specially being captain of a senior team, that wasn't going to be easy. He made the best out of what he got at every stage.
@@Phoenix.219 I am not throwing any shade to Dhoni, Kohli and Rohit. My point was that Indian cricket's initial and probably most important turning point was brought over by Dada and Dravid. Not by Dhoni. That was my only point. There are many blind Dhoni fans who will associate any and every success of Indian cricket to Dhoni, so I was talking about those people to begin with.
@@devashishpatel5438what do you mean by real cricket fans. And this whole controversy started when Dhoni became so successful that people started comparing him to Dada. So Dada fans became butt hurt. Foundation is one thing. Taking that foundation and making a great team which actually wins is another thing. Both were great captains. But yes Dhoni massively improved the team. Dada took an average team and made the fighters With the fighting spirit infused.... Dhoni took that mediocre team and lifted its level to a great team. We haven't seen any more upliftemnt in the team. Maybe we will need another great captain to take the next leap.
@@ManishSingh-xo1fb Read my first sentence again. I said that people say that Indian team is where it is because of Dhoni, Kohli and Rohit without ever mentioning Dada. Dada was the only one who staked his career 3 times to give chances to Viru, Bhajji and once more for a series draw. He was the one who taught the never say die spirit to our team. How are people conveniently forgetting to mention Dada while calling themselves true cricket fans. I never said that Dhoni, Kohli and Rohit aren't great captains. They did above and beyond what was expected of them and they maintained the spirit but the initial burst was provided by Dada. My only point was people like to claim they are true Indian cricket fans and only talk about Dhoni, Kohli and Rohit.
IMHO that Dravid's innings was the best immings by an indian batter in last 30 years. The context before the series, the technical and mental challange and the conditions. He was MoM even though Sachin scored around 50 more runs.
I so wanted to add that fact in the video.... It was nearly unheard of something like this happening at the time.. and reading Sachin's take on that inning in his autobiography.... It was simply breathtaking
@@sharansrivatsa210no offence but sachin had played so many better innings than that 241. That was on a flat scg wicket against a McGrath less Australia. I’d rate his 99 tour to Australia above that. I don’t think that innings is comparable to the innings listed above.
@@nooneknows19 I mean sure, there are over 100 innings to choose from just for him :) But the 241 was special because of the mental aspect of what he had to do. The way a sportsman fights his instincts - to show disciple, was amazing to watch
I remember this match like it was yesterday. India winning the test by an innings on the English soil after being 0-1 down in the series. Dada choosing to bat first on a green and damp wicket. Dravid proved himself as one of the greatest test batsmen of all times, the masterclass from Sachin, Dada’s massive sixes to Giles, a breathless Geoffrey Boycott in the commentary box who was just a fan of Dada of a different level. An outstanding bowling performance by India, and not to forget Sanjay Bangar’s contribution. This test victory was so important that it gave us a belief that our team can win test matches overseas. Next year, India had another great victory in Adelaide. Golden years!
Still remember that call by Dada when Umpires offered him to walk off due to bad light. It was carnage and for a change batting team went for the blood in detoriating conditions. One of few such occasions when no T20 can replace the thrill of watching things unfold
@@449chaithanyakrishnan7 yes, if Ashwin was picked for the team, and even after that we lose, he will be the first to bash, why no 4-5 pacers? Cowardly captaincy blah, blah, blah.
@@449chaithanyakrishnan7nothing personal but that WTC final saw very atrocious bating from India. Vs Australia it was autrocious bowling... In the WTC vs NZ Ashwin did bowl well... Only NZ had the Batman to negate the other bowlers hence they deserved the win. Do not get me wrong, i believe that dropping Ashwin was not a smart move given his credibility to get wickets rather than a 4 bowler approach which is like a double edge sword....
Lol dada shouldering the blade to almost every decision or almost every match he risked his neck for his team❤️ Except for the flintoff spell 🤣 where Sachin risked his life for Dada I'm sure never in history of Indian cricket, a captain took way too many risky decisions but stayed by decisions to put a youngster into the journey of building a legend team for future success 3:48 a decision that would be make captain scapegoat for single decision to now one idealogy of bazzball that even after losing, captain is not going to get affected nor be any topic of discussion. BCCI should learn how to support their team, captain, at times even support a failing player with another patient series. instead of finding scapegoat after every series.
I have absolutely mad respect for the ICT from late 90s and early 2000s.....they are basically the ones who made Indian cricketers believe that anything is possible, they are the ones that kept pushing ICT towards being the best in the world and they inspired Dhoni and company that would take that team to the finishing line in the 2011 WorldCup.....the journey of ICT to the top must always be remembered and respected by teens like me who love this game
I simply adored this series. The history and the story behind this series was simply magic. I came to adore test matches a lot more after watching this series of yours. I love the various storylines here and frankly, Dada has always been my favourite captain and this story made me love him a lot more. Thank you for sharing this tale so beautifully.
Satisfied! You release one video on a Friday evening each month😂. But the amount of research and dedication is visible in the videos. Epic Finale to the Series. Something that happened the year I was born, just heard about the legendary tales of Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Kumble, Bhajji, above all Ganguly. You made me live it. Thank you❤. Never worry about the urgency from our side. We'll eagerly wait❤..
I saw the match live ,as a 11 year old,I remember vividly the 11 over carnage by Dada and Tendulkar, what a test and series that was. Relieved those moments by your excellent story telling.
I remember this match as one of utter disbelief. I was in Class 6, merely 12, and getting a hang of who we should literally call the “Tridev” or Holy Trinity of Indian batting in those days. India had won the Natwest Series with SG’s “take of your shirt and do the honours roll” stuff. But the way they had lost the First Test, it had been a disappointment for our entire gang of sports boys in school. Till then, we had never seen the Trinity fire all at once. And then, one fine morning, my brother turned the TV on. Both SG and SRT had been on a furious roll, and were taking the Brit cherry deliverymen to the cleaners. I had never seen rampage like that and when both SRT and SG scored the centuries, I was literally jumping with my cousin, who was 16 years elder to me and was a responsible working man. I had goosebumps, and to this day I carry those goosebumps. When my cousin said, “we will win.” My cousin passed away in 2005, with my sister in law in a freak road accident, and the highlight of that Headingley Test still gives me goosebumps and the fact that I had managed to watch that fury unfold. I miss my cousin, but I still have the goosebumps which I had with him.
Indian test cricket has two distinct era. One is before Ganguly and other is after. In first one India followed Gandhibad for decades and embraced repeated humiliation with stoicism on cricket field also that was transformed by a leader who did not hesitate to welcome aggressor with befitting aggression in the field.
i just can't praise the man the myth the master that ganguly was, i guess between these petty captains we forgot the real hero, it literally took a bigh heart to fight with management, have an eye for talent and when it comes to taking risk, we all saw what he did, under ganguly we played 3 icc tournaments reached final in all of them and he was equally good in tests above that the way he managed the players no fights, no player left the team in disgust, while under dhoni that was just a norm, each one of his peers and seniors left with some sadness
Bro, beautiful story telling. Im very addicted to your channel and spend most of my youtube time watching your videos and enjoy the nostalgia it brings of my childhood days and the Justice league like Indian team. Fabulous job.
Ganguly is arguably the best capatin we ever had. Now i know many people might complain here about fhoni or kohli but what dada did for Indian team that too at a time when weren't that good side outaide India and new players. He really changed everything in Indian cricket history
@@TheKumarmanoj Well we are talking about captaincy and the bold decisions dada had taken during his captaincy which is what makes him the best Indian captain ever but if you wanna talk about dravid then surely he has sacrificed top during dada's captaincy and he's one of the greatest batsmen of all time

Got goosebumps while watching the video. I was a kid when this series happened, back then it was just numbers to me. Thanks a lot for sharing the context and the hardships the team went through.
Dravid 2002 - Supports including spinners on arguably the most pace-friendly track in all of England. Dravid 2023 - Leaves out the World's no.1 spinner on arguably the most spin friendly track in all of England.
Excellent video Dada was like a Hungry and wounded lion His risk and decision taking ability was so important along with the immense faith he put into the team members and the team members also paid him Back by giving their best And think this meatch song with Kolkata match of 2001 will Be cherished by all the cricket fans across globe
Was fortunate enough to see this live from Headingley. I was a student at Yorkshire Uni then and we had for some unknoen reason taken day 3 tickets and enjoyed the class of Rahul, Sachin and Saurav.
I remember watching Sachin and Saurav batting in that match. The commentators were saying that those watching on TV had no idea just how dark it was!! That match was very special to watch.
Back then, India had world class test batsmen.. These days, they are only focussed on money and T20s. Even the best test batsman of this generation- Kohli is only Ganguly's or Laxman's level
Dravid played 1 down so scored more runs, On the other hand Dada beared the strategizing, decision making issues and took responsibility and Dada and Laxman played 5 and 6 position. You bloody rascal analyse first before saying something about the greats.
Your storytelling skills are on another level bro.. it's not easy at all to write a captivating script with great choice of words & present it with such a good narration that we stay hooked for 19mins.... kudos👏
Damn, you write and speak really well! While I don't remember this match, your commentary on it made it no less than a well-scripted thriller. I am hooked! Would be checking your other videos for your unique and entertaining take on how the match went.
I enjoyed the emotion with your narration although we know the result The narrative and the flow of the story looks as we are in dressing room and watching the circumstances
As a Pakistani, and a cricketing fan, my respect for the Indian team rose solely for how fearless Indian cricket played back in the days. My words to all those cricketing fans, be it from any country, one must admit the good and classy cricket when you see. Appreciation doesn't mean you're supporting the other team, it means that as a Cricket fan, you respect the fact that when someone plays a good game, you have the guts and courage to admit that the other is the better one, be it a rival. Have a nice one all
Matches like this show why test cricket is the best format, which shows which team played better in all areas of the game. Fantastic narration as always! Hope you cover some of the recent series as well.
I never really paid attention to the importance of the grounds when I was a child. Most people probably didn't. But looking back now I still can't believe team India won at Headingly. Seems impossible these days.....maybe even back then.....but they still did it. Thank you for showing us these glimpses into our cricket history and letting us appreciate the struggles of those who represented us before.
Same here man...... I never realised how certain grounds carry the weight of history behind them..... I think it was the first ipl where I first relaised it.... Seeing Warne bring his Rajasthan team to victory.... That was a damn masterclass in pitch and team selection
This is what kids nowadays don’t know…MSD and VK are legends but these were the guys who made ICT what it is today….without Sourav there is no India in the peak of cricket….we would have remained an average nation like Pakistan if not for his captaincy and decisions
Sir please cover the story of India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2022 match.....how everyone wanted to win because of previous defeat in 2021 world cup, 2 consecutive sixes of Virat Kohli to Harris Rauf 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I would love too brother.... But I can't show any footage from that series.... Makes making a video a bit tricky... Still I'll research to see if I can find a workaround
Just an observation, this video is 19:47 minutes long and India got independence in 1947, and this guy chose to upload it near independence day. Coincidence?
Thank u for watching the video?? Thank u for making the video bhai.. bahut wait kar rha tha iss video ka.. aah the headingley test... this was one of ur longer videos, but still you couldnt have said enough about the dravid-bangar partnership... dada and sachin did what they do best, dominate... but dravid-bangar duo, they just gave us an unbelievable stand!! Sachin-dada's dominance in the darkness was unforgettable.. i also remember zaheer's morning spell on day 5.. we had at that point long been hearing zaheer had the capacity to bowl quick.. come the morning of day 5 of that test, zaheer showed that.. bowling consistently over 90mph and peaking at 93... he was quick from round the wicket that day.. giles was visibly terrified.. after a class batting display, that spell from zaheer was utterly satisfying... One of the greatest test matches for us Indians!!
Saurav ganguly as captain made us believed that we can win TESTs away from home ............after him team stopped winning away under dhoni .........after dhoni again team india started winning away TESTs under virat.........infact virat remained most succesful indian TEST captain in away conditions
You have to give credits to Dada for handling the pressure of low performance and right team combination. India has produced many captains names like, CK Nayudu, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and are producing many more but, none was able to gain the height of success and decision making skills like Kapil Dev, Dada, Md. Azharuddin and MS Dhoni. They all made sure that the teams is built for the future.
