When Is A QB Battle That's Not A QB Battle? | Steelers Almighty 

Russ is SteelHouse Captain. He earned it. Ain't no battle. Russ wins games & SB. Jus ain't that yet. No way. What sucks is the CORRUPTED SCHEDULE!!! Nasty NFL.

The QBs are approaching it like it’s a battle, but Fields is struggling. He has accuracy issues and problems reading the defense. Alex Smith was never anywhere near as good as Russ, and Fields certainly isn’t Mahomes. Fields reminds me of Cam Newton. That’s his ceiling to me. Here’s the rub: Cam was never as good as Russ, even during Cam’s MVP season, when he won on the strength of his team’s record, btw. Russ outperformed him and carried the Seahawks to that yearns playoffs. People keep saying Justin Fields has “more upside” or “a higher ceiling” than Russ, but they’re never able to explain this. What ceiling does Fields have that Russ doesn’t? Does Fields’s small advantage as a runner compensate for the huge gap in arm-talent and savvy favoring Russ? Remember that Russ rushed for 340 yards last season in 15 games, and those yards were mostly on non-designed runs. Russ can still get 500+ or area, and he’s still a better mover than 80% of the league’s QBs. What do we have? Jackson Fields Hurts Murray Allen Love Jones (???) Taylor (???) Lawrence is a no. Lance isn’t even a starter. Tua is a no. We will see about Caleb, Bryce Young and the rest. Right now, there are six QBs whose mobility you can put above a 35-year-old Russ, and Russ is the LEAST likely to get injured on a run because he runs smarter and protects his body better. So there’s a lower risk high reward with Russ. As for Fields’s “upside”, “higher ceiling,” or whatever, answer the following questions: Based on Fields’s first three years, what is Fields projected to do in his next 10 years that Russ won’t be able to do in the next 5? What will Fields do in his next 10 years that Russ didn’t do over his first 10? All this talk about Fields’s greater upside is nothing but smoke-filled platitude bs, and it’s not supported by any of the evidence. You need something besides “Fields is younger, taller, faster,” otherwise Tom Brady would’ve been dumped for Jacoby Brissett based on two of those factors. 😂 Russ will be the better fit because Arthur Smith’s offense is similar to Pete Carroll’s. Russ has run that offense before. Plus, he just has a higher football IQ, more experience, and resilience that cannot be taught. Not only has Russ come through a lot of cr@p over the last three years, he has had three seasons in which he arguably should e sat out for most or all of those seasons. Yet, he has missed a total of 7 games in his entire 12-year career, and two of those misses were because of Sean Payton’s desire to lose the last two games of the 2023 season and inch up the draft board. He was playing well and fully healthy at the time. In two of the three seasons in which injuries should have kept him out for the year, he either dragged his team into the playoffs (2016) or came close (2021). You guys need to go look at the tapes of Russ back in Seattle. He threw over the middle quite well. At times he might have been reluctant to do it but when he did it he destroyed defenses.

Denver had no reliable Tight Ends when Russ was there. There top Tight end was Greg Dulcich he was always hurt. Trautman was more of a blocking Tight End and Lucas Krull was 3nd string. Freiermuth is probably the best tight end Russ has had in the last 5 years.

People are wrong about Russ not being able to sit in the pocket and hit guys over the middle. He can do it. Maybe he has been reluctant to do it but he can do it, and he can do it at a high level. He has never had the blocking or the TE. Jimmy Graham wasn’t very helpful because everybody knew he was just a glorified receiver and couldn’t block. So defenses keyed on him. Luke Willson was a hard worker but not that talented. Russ needs a great O-Line and a good TE who can block ABD receive.

I feel like there could have been a better grammatical way to title this video. It just feels weird to read.

Comparing Russ to Alex Smith is 100% bullsh!t man! Don’t insult my QB like that. You both lost a lot of credibility. Fields isn’t “more talented” than Russ, he’s just a faster runner, and he really isn’t a BETTER runner because Russ is smarter. Russ is getting older but he’s not old.

The guy in the green shirt is all cap. Justin Fields is a better athlete?? Why?? Because he’s taller?? Please!! You have no other reason to say he’s better than Russ. For everything you name Russ does 10 times better. Justin Fields had 3 years in Chicago to show he was a “Ferrari” so what happened?? Excuses! Stop repeating what you hear these analysts saying and do some real research. Smh

Why is it such a big deal about how the Steelers monitor their QB competition? And by the way, everyone is wrong about Russ if they're thinking he's done.

2 teams paid 10s of millions for Russ not to play for them idk man I give it 6 week tops and fields will be the starter. The people bashing fields I’m sure didn’t really follow the bears who were literally tanking until last season. And now based off the GMs comments of wanting Caleb since 2021 and having your dt drop back in coverage to loose 2 games can say maybe they were still tanking 😅
