When I was in Ecuador, they made papaya smoothies. all it was, was Papaya and water blended up, then add some lime while it's blending up. It is a 100% healthy smoothy and if you have a good palate, the taste is wonderful.

1 - Green (not ripe) papaya can be grated, add grated carrots and onions, add salt and season with vegetable oil. It turns out to be a very tasty salad that tastes like cabbage salad... 2 - Medium-ripe papaya can be cut into slices and fried in a frying pan. It tastes like roasted pumpkin... 3 - Ripe papaya - peel and eat like a melon. You can do it as shown in this video, or you can peel and seed it and cut it into slices on a plate. It is advisable to cool slightly in the refrigerator before eating... Bon appetit !

Thanks for the vids! I live in Florida and these are easy to grow and take up very little garden space. The taste of the fruit is sweet and reminds me of cantaloupe - but with a smoother texture.

I let my papaya ripen 2-4 weeks after buying to eat. It gets mushy, can't pick it up with one hand and the pressure most people would check to see if it was ripe would put your finger half way into it. It is soo sweet and melts in your mouth. It gets ugly on the outside but turning it so the harder side is up helps. It will get some mold sometimes but that is OK, just always check for rot. Indirect sun when hot and direct sun in winter if you don't live too far South. I am in S. AZ and direct sun is OK in a couple of the months.

The combination is awesome! Thanks for turning me on to Papaya!

***** Hi! I have found frozen papaya at my local asian store. It's white. Have you ever tasted this kind of papaya? Thanks!
@Reiryuu
@Reiryuu 8 лет назад
+hanounours It is likely from that first very green papaya he showed you. Here in Taiwan and other parts of Asia it's used almost like a vegetable when it's firm, green on the outside and white on the inside. I prefer my papaya ripe though I tend to have trouble finding really good ones here. They tend to be a bit bland for me but I've never been brave enough to buy one whole at the store because they are massive here and I'm not sure what I'd do with it all lol!

Only store in Minnesota I can find papaya is Walmart....they used to be great...but now the mostly or all yellow ones.. cut the open and the seeds are light to med green....can't get a answer if seeds still ok to eat or not....and if the skin gets moldy...but it's not in the orange part....cutting off the skin....is the inside safe to eat? Can't find answers any where....

Would eating the skin of a papaya like you would an apple or kiwi a good idea? It's a bit random, but the skin looks quite thin and similar to a mango, and I've had mango with skin on and was good. Thanks for the video, looks like I'll need to get me some of those!

On the Mexican papaya, when the yellow ring around the end starts turning brown at the stem, does that mean anything? Is it turning bad? It is about 70 yellow with patches of green. I know I should wait till it is more yellow but the browning is concerning. Should I wait to cut it?

Every time I buy papaya I end up needing to throw it out. The first time I bought it I waited for it to go from green to mostly yellow like you said and when I cut it open it smelled rancid! I thought maybe I bought an inferior product because I got it from Wal-Mart. I went to a whole foods store and bought one from there and just to be on the safe side I didn't let it get to yellow. When I cut it that one smelled rancid as well. Any tips?!

I heard papaya seeds are used as a cleanser to kill parasites. Have you heard of this, and if so, how would you prepare it & what should I expect from consuming it? Kinda figured one shouldn't make plans to leave the house for awhile! Also, I've found Hawaiian papaya grown in Kahuku to be the best in texture and taste.

I have a question - can I cut the half ripe papaya in two pieces and wrap them up in plastic until it's perfectly ripe? And should I then store the two parts in the refrigerator or keep them in room temperature until fully ripe, and THEN put in the refrigerator to keep them fresh? I have a papaya that is not fully ripe, but I would like to watch the color on the inside and pay attention to it so it doesn't go bad before I get to eat it. This is my first time buying one you see! Thank you :)

@YourProduceGuy

I have been seeing info recently promoting Papaya seeds as an anti-parasitic. I hope that's true! A very simple cure if it is. I cannot however tell you for sure at this time. As I did a little research just before making the Papaya video I did discover for myself that the seeds are edible, which I had not previously known. Of course I tried some and that were pleasant enough all on their own. A bit "peppery" but not unpleasant in the least. For their best effect of course, eat them raw. They would be very nice in a salad. Cross your fingers that they can take down any parasites that might be lurking in us!

We are great fans of papaya which we always look forward to when we travel to Hawaii. We buy almost exclusively at farmers markets and enjoy several varieties available there. Rainbow and strawberry papayas are wonderful. However, we've found it difficult to find satisfactory papaya on the mainland. Does refrigeration during shipping have a deleterious effect on papaya's flavor or is it just we who are spoiled? Maybe we'll have to give the Mexican variety a try. Thank you for your insights.
@YourProduceGuy
@YourProduceGuy 10 лет назад
Some of it may have to do with harvesting the fruit in a 'greener' state in order to ship it. If you are buying from a farmer's market, the farmer can pick the fruit that morning (or more likely, the evening before) and it can be super ripe because he is going to sell hall his inventory that day. Shipping you must have firmer fruit to make the trip and so it will not have that tree ripened flavor. If you try Mexican Papaya, don't expect it to be like Hawaiian...you will be disappointed. They are two different fruits. Thanks for watching!

I'm not sure, but I think it's better to put fruit in a paper bag as plastic will "suffocate" it.

you can grow papaya from seed of the store bought fruit. i do it all the time. have to live in a warm area, they dont like freezes though put 10 seeds in a hole, and cut (dont pull) the smallest ones when they are about 2 or 3 inches tall. - they have an enzyme that helps break down proteins, and the seeds can fight cancer, or keep you from getting it !

Personally, I don't the think the Hawaiian Papaya needs any taste acquirement. But the Mexican Papaya is another matter. However, if you have ever eaten dried Papaya, you are eating Mexican Papaya. I don't think I have ever seen a dried Hawaiian Papaya for sale in the stores. You can tell the dried is the Mexican by the brilliant orange color and the rather long slices that it is sold in.

You're thinking of Mangoes. They have a toxicity in their skins that some people are sensitive to. It causes a reaction much like contact with poison ivy. However, that is not a widespread reaction. Of course, there are food allergies or sensitivities that individuals can have to specific fruits, but what you are thinking of is not the case with Papayas.
