I'm so glad you talked about the mold. I just bought a papaya yesterday and woke up to a few mold spots this morning. I was so sad because it's not fully ripe yet. Now I'm happy again ☺YAY

I didn't know how to store it and I left it out for 3 days unrefridgerated and when I saw mold I threw it out!

Interesting. When you said papaya has a similar taste to manage, now it makes sense when my sister will accidentally call mango 🥭 papaya. Lol

Thank you for this video. It was very helpful as I stand in front of my green papayas. I would encourage you to teach how valuable those seeds are, and edible. Wonderful for digestion. Thank you for not spraying your trees 🙏

Yes I agree with it tasting sorta like mango. This was such a cute video 🤗

Mango is much more tangy--or similar to a peach flavor. To me papaya tastes like a better version of cantaloupe.

I take out the seeds, cut each half into about four wedges, slice the "meat" off the wedges and cut into bite size pieces. Then I squeeze the juice of one or two limes on it. The great thing about it is it will last in the fridge for almost a week while you have papaya any time you want.

How can you tell if it's a bad papaya? I often buy them and it looks like a mix of black and white seeds. Looks moldy to me and I don't trust it but they are like that so many times. Is the white seed-looking stuff mold? Thanks!

Thanks for the detail! Gorgeous fruit and young lady. I was wondering about when they're ripe. I just invested in my first one to try. Next up to read into the seeds and see if they're a tree that produced the same fruit or not at all and requires cuttings grafted onto the root stock stalk. Any ideas?

I cut mine too early! Even after watching this vid. She says they need to have a bit of give, mine did but it's still colourless and without flavour. I should have left it! A costly mistake to make, but I'm sure I'll get better next time.

Keep in mind that to maximize profit, they want minimum spoilage, so they tend to pick fruit when it is way too green, and expect it to ripen during shipment & shelving. Unfortunately, once picked, the fruit (cut off from its source of water & nutrients) starts to die, and although it has a limited ability to continue to develop the ripe color, flavors, and texture, it can never do as well as tree, bush, or vine ripened. The impulse to maximize profit, leads to loss of the invisible loss of flavor & texture, so much so, that many (if not most) can never fully develop, before they begin to spoil. So it is best to err on the side of barely ripe, for most travel ripened tropical fruit. PS: wouldn’t “Fruitful Miami” be a better name?

You can use the ones not completely ripe to make salsa. I sometimes buy shredded green papaya to make from an Asian market to make Thai green papaya salad. A whole papaya would be way too much so I just buy enough for myself. It's really good with some sticky rice and crispy barbequed pork belly. Makes a wonderful meal!

Yes, they are, and supposed to have health benefits. I don't dislike them but neither do I like them that much but I still make a point to eat some from each papaya.

The papaya I grew smelled and tasted like the smell of ammonia. Like windex or something. Maybe it was because the cruddy dirt it was planted in ?

Flavor more similar to Melon (cantaloupe) than Mango ... & some I've had in Mexico are not very sweet at all ...

I usually describe them as a cantaloupe as well, but a little sweeter. Maybe somewhere between a cantaloupe and a mango?

Make sure you only buy organic papaya. The conventional ones are nearly all GMO and every single one is processed by irradiation.
