Why do I cringe so hard at root pruning? I know plants are so much tougher than I give them credit for.. I guess when you kill enough plants and you finally get something to live your like “don’t touch it, don’t laugh at it, don’t look at it too hard, tell it you love it..”. And then I watch you prune the top and roots and i wince. Lord give me strength 😋❤️
Now that DtG has helped us in pushing the zone to warming, I'm really hoping that he does the same for cooling... So that I might be able to grow fruiting Honeycrisp! (And others requiring more chill hours than we get here!) Perhaps this is today impossible. It is an interesting question and challenge though! I do enjoy a UF peach variety! If I fail to find much success in this for a few more years however, I'm pretty sure that we'll give in and buy a Blue Ridge vacation property that will allow us to grow those varieties. For now I'll just have to manage my envy of HnyCrispr!

I planted bare root trees (pomegranate, fig), grape vines, and blackberry bushes in early February. Literally all of them survived the Great Texas Ice Storm, with no additional protection from me beyond the heavy mulching I had already done. Planting dormant plants is the best.
Nurseries can really pack the trees in as well, saving on shipping and time to get your trees; I've noticed. Last batch of chinquapin trees I ordered, 4 for me and 2 for my father-in-law, were all shipped in the same 18 inch by 6 inch box and arrived in two days. And now I'm reminded that I need to move some crepe myrtle trees, they pop up in the most inconvenient places sometimes.

@@chrischambless yes they are excellent. I’ve killed over 40 in about a year. If the gopher backfills the hole you need to vacuum it out and then set the trap.
Then there is my peach tree which almost doesn't even go dormant. It no sooner loses all its leaves then we get a warm spell and it wakes up again. Guess I shoulda planted one that needs a few more chill hours even though I live in Zone 8b/9a. But one thing is certain, it is a very prolific tree.
Hey david, what is the best way to prune a pear tree? I bought one last year and noticed their branches grow extremely upright.. i dont plan on pruning this year, but i imagine it will need a pruning at the end of this year during the winter some time 🤷♂️
I just planted a soursop on the ground and about to plant another one in a container. Can anyone help me out on the best way to replant a soursop in a bigger container. Should I add potting soil or get natural soil from the ground to fill up the container. And do I need to add any thing to the soil. Thanks

I have a spindly mulberry tree in a pot that has rooted to the ground for several years, about 8ft tall. It has started fruiting already this month. I'm in zone 9b. When is the best time to move it? It cannot stay where it is now.
