I just started playing mahjong 4 days ago and watched like 15 of yours video. Now i'm just arrived at adept rank and you're helping me improve by leaps and bound, thanks for sharing!
28:16 I just noticed that when you looked in the log afterwards for that last south 4 game it seemed like the tile after the 7 of bamboo you won off of was the white dragon! So IF you hadn't won that turn or refused to win on that turn, on the very next turn your right lord would have won on tsumo on that white dragon tile making them win on a haneman hand taking them to 1st place. And as a result you would have ended in 3rd place. Luckily that didn't happen but it's always fun to speculate and think about.
im no expert but its better to take what you get than risk it and lose it all. unless you can read what the discard trend is and if theres a likely chance for you to get what you need to get the better hand. in the end, second place at least gets you forward; you'd kick yourself if you led the shimocha ron you. you can also look at the wall and see how the game would've likely went and see if you did the right call.
Sorry if this has been asked before: I feel like a lot of times you reference the Mahjong books you're reading off camera, what books would you recommend for someone learning the game?
Thank you for the question! Riichi Book 1 by Daina Chiba is an incredible resource to start with! Also this is a shameless plug but there's a lot of resources linked in the discord as well.
