Hilarious thing is think about how many crashes that mail jeep was in. Probably 40 or 50 across countless 80s TV shows. Just like army jeeps of old and crown Victoria squad cars they were wrecked a lot on TV because fleets of them were retired. In this case cool old mail jeeps the Grumman llv replaced.

KITT really gets it bad in Season 3. First he gets a missile shot up his exhaust, this happens to him, next an acid pit, then gets his tyre punctured by a laser and then in the season's penultimate episode, gets his scanner knocked out by another laser. Least they didn't encounter the juggernaut til Season 4.

Or sun glasses off. Yes. Its a Theater practice with props. Back then, TV crews were required to revert to drama techniques because of limited time and budget. With more powerful computers its has been minimized today.

@@kinginfamousz The fact that he has no memeory is EXACTLY why driving him would have been dangerous. Most casual fans like yourself forget that KITT and the car itself is one and the same. If KITT is malfunctioning then the vehicle would be malfunctioning too. Who's to say when Michael is driving Kitt wouldn't make an auto turbo boost out of nowhere or trigger self destruct and blow up. Think next time.

i don't really remember any episodes from this series (although I watched it ALL the time! LOL) BUT, this is the one scene that has always been what I think of when I think of Knight Rider, the power lines coming down and sparking. I love though how a high-voltage transmission tower has a little tiny distribution pole transformer on it. LOL and how the wires are insulated....

Back in my high school years I used to commute by bus. Usually 2 of them came in peak time, there were so many of us. Most of the people fought their way to the first vehicle which was also faster as it left out some stops, I decided to wait for the second one. We've caught up with the first bus just leaving the town, it was in a trench, a broken high voltage pole on it's roof and the wires dangling. Can't tell you how thankful I was for my patience.

In the pilot episode, Devon says KITT isn't made of steel, but a special alloy with the bonded molecular shell. Maybe that alloy isn't as good as protecting the occupant from a live power line as regular steel and that's why Michael was so shaken up?

NBC tried to reboot Knight Rider in 2008 using a Mustang for KITT and with the Michael Knight in that version portrayed as the son of the original; sadly, Knight Rider 2008 only lasted one season :(

Most people don't realize that the original Kitt is 99% production car but was a few extra body panels on there to appear custom and of course all of the Pontiac logos removed.

K.I.T.T. can reach a top speed of 300 mph, but has an initial limiter on his engine for safety and practicality reasons on public highways. If Michael wants more of K.I.T.T.'s resources delivered to the engine, he has to ask for it specifically and in that case the accelerator becomes very sensitive, flooring him will activate the turbo boost thrusters. You see this in other episodes, that's why he says "Give me everything you got". Other than that, Michael can simply hit Pursuit for a short burst of speed instead, but it's only a temporary shot, it doesn't open up the engine permanently. Super Pursuit Mode however was a different animal, that opened up the full potential of the engine permanently until that mode was disabled, but this was only made possible by K.I.T.T's new aerodynamic configuration and the EBS safety feature. Hope this explains.

@@crsrdash-840b5 Factory default limitations yes. Can't expect to have a car built on safety just recklessly doing stupid speeds at the slightest touch of the accelerator pedal. Even modern cars have limiters on them. At least all Michael has to do is ask, for modern cars it's not that simple.
