When Lucasfilm Attacked Godzilla! 

Godzilla 1998 definitely wasn’t the Godzilla I grew up watching, I was so glad when the real Godzilla (the one made by Toho) ended up destroying Godzilla ‘98 in the movie, Godzilla: Final Wars.

Wasn't it something about size matters?

PLOT. DOES. MATTER. Screamed the Phantom Menace Website. Briefly. I remember this little wheeze backfiring as soon as people realised that the Phantom Menace didn't really have much of a plot itself! Perhaps George should've kept a tighter rein on his more enthusiastic employees beforehand? I wonder if this incident, among similar others, made Lucas realise that he'd created a monster too big to keep his eye on as fully as he always had, and inspired his decision to eventually sell the whole thing off to Disney? Whatever gaffes made afterwards wouldn't be HIS problem anymore, but Disneys. Selling your baby to the Gypsies is understandable if your baby grows up to be the size of Paul Bunyan and it's eating your house.

The ads for all 3 of the prequels should've been..."You think Godzilla was bad? Hold my Spatchka."

I don't know what sucked more: the 1998 Godzilla movie, or the b-st-rdized Led Zeppelin song Puff Daddy did for it.

Godzilla is more loved today than Disney's Star Wars.

I do like some aspects of the 1999 Godzilla movie mostly for the special effects and props/miniatures. I actually do like the Prequels but as I watched Phantom Menace for a second time I actually understood that Lucas was trying to tell a more complicated story, oh, I think I've said that before, but anyway... So far I haven't done the research but I wonder if Godzilla was one of the more anticipated movies for 1999 in some circles because not everybody's a Star Wars fan. I also heard that there was a lot of bad mouthing of the movie Titanic because of some trouble during filming I think somebody almost drowned and some of the entertainment channels at the time were shitting on it, and turned out to be widely popular with audiences, well at least with females anyway. I could see why Lucas would hate Independence Day because it is just a fun romp of a (sci-fi) movie. Does anybody remember how some of us wanted an ID4 sequel...................

I saw the 98 Godzilla movie, TPM was better.

Even though I saw a lot of Godzilla on TV , I skipped this movie. It seems ironic that Phantom Menace ended up with a weak plot, too. 😂

Godzilla minus one Japanese movie franchise the answer to our problems with woke Hollywood 😅 it actually kicked Hollywood box office butt and took us back to the 70s and 80s unlike today's Star wars franchise now . Hopefully the Americanized Godzilla franchise follows but George Lucas I hate to say this hes just jealous. 😅😅
