I have been saying for years. If you can't be happy, content and comfortable living alone, why would you think adding another person, with all their problems, is going to magically make everything better? Be single for a bit, find happiness, contentment and your worth in that. Once you have and decide to look for a woman, don't settle for anything that doesn't make you a better person, or improve your life in a meaningful way. It will be worth it in the long run, I promise you.

Yeah fellas NEVER argue with a woman. It's a waste of energy, time, and mental patience that you just can't afford to waste when you could just state your point and leave it at that. Remain calm, say what you have to say, and let her argue with herself.

I love the way rude immature people accuse you of being "insecure or jealous" if you don't like being ignored on a date or a party when they are focused on another of the opposite sex, no matter what the excuse given. It actually means you know your worth, you have good healthy self esteem & you are not there for their convenience when they get around to paying some attention to you. You know when someone is really into you or not. If the initial attraction is not sufficient that a new beau is giving you all their time & attention then move on, it won't get any better. They are not that into you.

I once met this girl who I thought I was going to marry. Epilogue: I loved living alone. I've always felt comfortable in the kitchen and I would constantly watch some RU-vid videos with Gordon Ramsey and how to cook. I always took pride in keeping my house clean, especially since I have a dog and a cat. I have my weekend car and my beater and they're both kept clean and washed. My garage is well organized and I have a nice tool shed. I like fixing things. I hit the gym four times a week. You could say I'm a manly. So hopefully you get the picture of how I live. So fast forward to meeting this girl. We got along perfectly and I thought she was the one! I wasted no time and she moved in with me once her lease was over, just a few months after we met! The first 10 months were phenomenal. She helped with the cooking and cleaning and took ownership of the house. Took a lot of weight off my shoulders as a man. She also worked full-time at a job she loved, however she only paid her bills and bought groceries. I decided to pay my own rent and bills as that was my role. Especially since she did cook n clean about 60% of the time. That was the smartest thing I ever did! We did everything together! We had the same sense of humor and were interested in a lot of the same things. Our family values were very well aligned. We traveled together, cooked together and discovered new places together. Everything was perfect! Fast forward 10 months and things started declining. She switched up jobs and soon enough realized she made a big mistake. She became "depressed" and was totally immature about the situation. I told her to quit and take a couple of months off to reassess her situation and find something she likes. She didn't want to go without working which made absolutely no f**king sense since she didn't contribute to the rent and her bills were almost non-existent! I could cover them a few months. I could pay for the groceries like I did before, no big deal. Anyways, she stopped contributing to the cooking and cleaning and her inner slob started coming out. Absolutely brutal time and morally twisted because I didn't want to kick her out and abandon her at her lowest point. So fast forward a few months and she switches jobs again to a much better company. Her mental health got a lot better! However, she never recovered in our relationship properly. She never got back to cooking and cleaning like before and just relied on me to do 90% of it. It was a nightmare to help her maintain her car since she was totally irresponsible about it. She just wouldn't understand that us living together was the test run before marriage and she was failing it miserably! She was becoming more of a burden than a source of happiness. Her lack of taking ownership of the house and ultimately of the relationship was astounding. She basically thought everything would fix itself now that she was in a better place mentally. So it got to the point where we started going out less and less and I really did not care for planning anything with her anymore. The first 10 months and even during her bad job period we would get intimate almost every single day. I got to a point now where I didn't care about getting intimate with her anymore. Things were on a steep decline and she just didn't care to make things better. Either she was oblivious or too immature and proud to admit she wasn't putting in the effort. I think it was a little bit of both. So anyways, I bought some new furniture and I politely asked her to contribute towards it. I paid it off in 6 months and I did not see one single penny from her. Always an excuse every month. Then I asked her to start helping with the rent and she did the whole "I don't make enough money" shtick. That was the last straw. I've seen enough and I knew she just didn't give a sh*t. I asked her to move out and of course she was screaming and hollering. Crying and whining. She couldn't understand how we got here and she wanted to make everything better. Way too little and way too late. She just couldn't comprehend why I wanted her to leave. She couldn't comprehend that all I wanted was her to respect my house and me. Of course I loved her but her amateur behavior made me fall out of love with her. We kept in touch for a while after she moved out. I still think she is a great person, just not the right one for me. Unfortunately we couldn't coexist in the same house. She wanted traditional roles but put a below average effort into hers. No thanks. MORAL OF THE SORRY: If I married her before living together or even in those first 10 happy months, I would have regretted it for the rest of my life. Always live with your girlfriend or boyfriend for at least one year before you decide anything!! Thank you for reading my story and have a wonderful day!

I've been called insecure or even that I'm showing a "red flag" for wanting to give up on someone or feeling like I don't have a chance if there's other potential guys in the running, so I feel pretty damn validated right now. Can it be argued that there's an underlying insecurity? Yeah, I'll own that, but overall it simply has to do with me not wanting to compete for someone. There's been times where I confidently, damn near arrogantly felt I was the "better" person, so it's not always a matter of being insecure.

Learning to be alone was a factor for me to be honest. I spent over 12 of the last 15 years of my life in 1 of 3 relationships, a girl I dated through college and got engaged to left me after 3+ years and it almost killed me, I vowed never to give a woman that much power over my feelings again. I left a woman I was with for 8 years about 6 months ago and the only thing that bothered me was that I didn't leave sooner. I learned to be alone for a few different reasons and it makes a huge difference. Learning to be ok being alone and having your own life is a big deal, when a woman betrays you it doesn't hurt to leave her because you have yourself and a life still going for yourself when it doesn't work out.

I never lived with a woman in my life until the day I got married at 38. Of course she was a virgin who had never left her parents house, so I knew my chances were a little better. Still going strong 5 years later

Two days later, the doctor found a mass during my wife's exam. if you are struggling to learn to live alone, the things i recommend are: 1. get organized and keep on top of all the chores and duties. after you get on top of it, there's a point where you have handled everything that needs doing and you are now free to spend your extra time and energy on whatever you want. 2. dont waste effort or money trying to fill your time for the sake of it. allow yourself to get bored. dont throw your time away on timewasters like TV. instead try to write down a list of 5 things you could do to build yourself up. go gym learn a language, whatever. once you get the hang of it, being alone will trigger your brain to do things to build yourself up. you'll fill your time with self-improvement, and that is the true path to winning in life.

Just to set the record straight - couples who co-habitate before marriage have a higher chance of divorce than those who don't. But at the end of the day the chance you have to make your marriage work is the chance you make by putting in the work and building the relationship. In my opinion living together before marriage means that the wedding doesn't really change anything and you've already set the dynamic in the relationship that either of you can just walk away and choose someone else at any time. I would never recommend a couple lives together first, but I would highly recommend that they discuss what living together would entail in all regards.

It's true. If you have to be with someone to be happy you will never be happy and you will never truly love them. My long-term girlfriend and I broke up and in that two years I spent a lot of time on myself learning to love myself and be happy alone. By sheer coincidence we reconnected and we've been married for almost 20 years happily with 3 kids and she is a wonderful wife. She cooks, takes care of the house, takes care of the kids and I support and protect her. I could not be happier with her and that only happened because I learned that I could be happy alone. When you wake up everyday not needing her you wake up everyday choosing her and that is much more powerful.

You don't need to live with someone before getting married to know them. I never lived with my fiance and my mother never lived my father before they got married, but I've been with him long enough to know everything from his cleaning habits to his eating habits just by observation of him, his living space, his social group, and conversation. I'm not happy about some of it, but none of it's a dealbreaker. We've both made very clear how we want to live when we're married.
