BLTV Highlights a classic heavyweight slugfest between Tommy 'The Duke' Morrison & Donovan 'Razor' Ruddock. The fans were anticipating nothing short of a fire fight that ended with a knockout!
Tommys left hook was a thing of beauty. This was a homerun shot to change the game. Bert Sugar and another commentator did the play by play for another station, and when Tommy spun Razor with the counter left and dropped him. The commentator yelled "Oh Shit" live on air.
Man I would love if you covered more of Tommy Morrison on this channel! Man was a spectacle in the ring and despite his death, many still remember and talk about him today.
I would say that was or is top left hook I every seen in a heavy weight bout .. great fight they both went after it I'm 70 and you just don't see boxing like the just monster slug feast .... Morrison could have ruled for long career if partying hadn't started controlling his world ..
Tommy was an absolute terror in his prime, had he kept his head focused he could have given Mike Tyson a run for his money, not neccesarily saying he would have beat him but Francois Botha was outboxing Tyson before he got knocked out, Tyson in the 90's was a different Tyson and I can't help to think what could have been if he didn't have problems with substance abuse and drinking. Great style and to my knowledge the first native american HW champion throughout history, he actually fought what I think was the 2nd best native american HW in history Joe Hipp, where he broke his jaw and fought through the pain, if you guys wanna do another video on Tommy I think that fight would be a good one to cover, for my money that's Tommy's toughest fight, broke his jaw and both hands yet still fought through it and KO'd Joe Hipp.
Problems with substance abuse and drinking.........That sums up Tyson and Morrison, both not strong enough mentally to maintain the self discipline a great fighter needs.
Tyson in his Prime would SMOKE Tommy and all of you pointing to their fight in common Ruddock, Ruddock was interviewed somewhere, he said his chin was never the same after his 2 fights with Tyson
Ruddock always had a weird ability of just getting up no matter how vicious a knock down was, Tommy Morrison literally shut off his physics and rag dolled him in that knock down, yet he got up. It's weird, man.
Tommy Gun was tired of living in Rocky's shadow and went on to become Tommy" the Duke" Morrison and had a successful career. 😅 Hahaha Too bad we never saw a match between Tommy and Tyson.
Still think Tommy would have dropped Lennox if he had been 100%- sadly hiv + drugs/ drink and womanising took his strength , speed and legs . Nobody had that left hook before or since - it was like the grim reapers sieve!
TOM MORRISON IS BEAST MODE TO ME HE IS MY FAVORITE BOXER OF ALL TIME I THINK HE'S BETTER THAN TYSON EVER THOUGHT ABOUT BEING TOMMY MORRISON IS HUMBLE TOMMY MORRISON IS WHO I WATCH WHEN I GO TO HIT THE IRON 💪💪
I don't think so, at this point Foreman was that man who needed a miracle to become world Champion (but delivered ^^). Lennox was the man you needed a miracle to take the belts from. Maybe as strong as Foreman but more skilled, with higher ring IQ. At least more than young Foreman, later he had nice plans but imo he relied too much on his power and chin to stand up if the plan didn't work. Lennox in the other hand could switch to another plan and execute it perfectly if the first one didn't work, I didn't see that really often, that takes a lot of skills. In the Mercer fight for example, he went from his usual outside/jab plan to inside brawler/throw 600+ punches plan, that impressed me a lot. How the hell are you supposed to beat such a beast 🤔
His fights were interesting because he had a massive heart but kinda weak chin.. His form was impressive tho.. He did get very lucky with this one catching RR coming in..
The aids was already eating away at Tommy's stamina levels you could tell in the ray Mercer fight Tommy already was gassed after the round he knocked down Mercer the next round ray new Tommy was spent and he totally wiped out Tommy on the ropes its hard to say how good Tommy could have been if he did not aquire the aids virus
lol dude... Aids is the final stage of "Hiv" prior to have done it's damage. I think your referring to HIV in general, which was some evidence that he had it since 89 ~ 92. He has bin hiding it for a long time until the first tests... Later he got in complete denial and even to this day his wife trying to get a payment through lawsuits for making bogus claims the HIV was never there. Delusion to it's fullest.
Styles make fights. Issue with Morrison is that he can’t take a hit. Joe can take A LOT of hits. Joe can punch hard and Morrison punches even harder most likely. But Morrison wouldn’t KO Frazier whereas Frazier would KO Morrison easy since Morrison has a glass jaw.
@@sheldoncooper0 That's a bit harsh, Tommy only lost 3 of 52 fights. If he had a glass jaw he would have lost more often. Overrated Tyson got KOed more than Tommy. I do agree against an All-time Great like Joe Frazier Tommy would be overwhelmed bit I wouldn't be surprised to see Joe go down once in the first couple rounds. Joe by KO 6.
@@michaelmohrle1773 chin is not how many times you lost by KO. It’s how you were KO. Tyson was never knocked dow. Let alone knocked out from just the first big punch of the fight. Morrison was k locked down from just one big punch by Ruddock. Tussock landed tons of huge bombs on Mike and never even got close to knocking him down let alone out.
I've been in alot of fights,STREET fights I mean,,,,and every time when the guy I'm fighting gets into a boxing stance or starts throwing boxing punches,I KNOW!!! and I'd tell myself,I NEED TO WRESTLE THIS GUY BEFORE HE KNOCKS ME THE FCUK OUT,,,,I've always had more concern fighting a boxer then any other fighting style,,,,...so that's always been my style,if they wanna box,DONT!! Get them on the ground and dont let them up........
RAZOR RUDDOCK wasn’t Tommy’s “scariest opponent”, LENNOX LEWIS was. Lewis knocked Ruddock out in two rounds, and he didn’t have to drag himself off the floor and win by a controversial stoppage, like Tommy did.
@@patrickbrowne4606 them were the fakiest knockdowns I ever seen. That fight was totally thrown, and Lewis is a manufactured champion. Boxing can be pathetically and obviously scripted, if not always predetermined in its fraudulent outcome. That fight was pathetically fake.
I always was a fan of Tommy since rocky 5 but he never quite reached the heights I thought he was capable of.. Still a very humble and respectful man and may he rest in peace...
Think a fight Morrison vs Tyson would have been the battle of the millenium, both stepped every time on the ring to kill or be killed, in my opinion between Iron mike and The Duke there was not a huge difference in power, aggression, skills, killer istinct, they both beat Ruddock after bloody crashes..well anyway Ruddock never put Tyson's ass on the ground as he did with Morrison
