Nadal vs Brands, French Open '13. One of the trickiest matches for Rafa at RG, against a player that never won a match in this tourney! Like & Subscribe for more Tennis content! Twitter: twitter.com/sLlorcaTennis
Even though I knew Nadal would win this match, I was still holding my breathe during this highlight. Nadal does not give up. He plays until the very last point as if his life depends on it. Nadal Is My Champion!
I remember watching this match when it happened. That second set was basically the final set for Brands - he lost a lot of confidence and Rafa gained a ton. Brands hits the ball similar to Soderling and Gulbis which can blow anyone off the court when their game is on
Damn that was awesome to watch. From the ATP website Brands won 63% on his first serve and 59% on second serve. That's the highest 2nd serve winning percentage I think a player has had losing to Nadal in French open, ahead of Isner in 2011 and Djokovic in 2013 (58 & 53% respectively) when they lost both to Nadal in five sets.
Incredible to think Brands could play like this against Rafa, being only a few points from a 2 set lead and yet somehow he never even won a match at RG.
@@gustaflundgren1490 good excuse as always. As well as against Wawrinka in AO, Cilic AO 2018, Del Potro USO 2018. He just cant imagine him lost when he plays well. And dont mind me disrespectful, cause i am his fan from 2008 summer olympics.
@@luckyman1378 He was injured and when you are injured you can't play your best but you are probably some fat kid that have never trained anything in your life
@@luckyman1378 In 2009 he was injured. Indeed after Roland-Garros, he didn't play Wimbledon because of his knee. He had also an angina according to Tsonga and Monfils.
that point at 3-2 easy winning up the line made the difference, if he could've clinched that TB to go up 2-0 that could've ended up being one of the biggest upsets in history
could of.... should have.... might have.... if this.... if that...., that is what the loser says. Nadal doesn't care about that he just wins, he finds a way, that's what winners and champions do.
@@balancer182 I brought it up because of radamel’s comment. He did not distinguish which side he was speaking about. The correct statement would have been nadal has won the most gs on the men’s side
He was playing pressure free. Hitting any ball as much as he could as far away as he could. It worked for him. In the tiebreak, he released that he might have a chance to win, and that when the pressure hit him and he fucked up.
@@MrPatrickbuit Nothing. The thing is players like him can play with zero pressure when they face Nadal or Federer. That's why they tend to pull off outrageous ballstriking. He's not better than Schwartzman, but on this day, he was for a while.
Que maravilla grande Rafael Nadal solo el es resistible en la cancha tiene un potencial único bravoo Rafael Nadal es genio y figura nadie como tu en la pista que lucha no da un partido por perdido nunca eso lo hacen lo grande como tu vendiciones
I really miss the old Roland Garros scoreboard, it was simple, nice and eye friendly. Actually there was no need to change the slams scoreboards which started in 2015 and they've been changing it every now and then since then.
the guy's first name is not even printed in this video...but he gave a solid run for Rafa's money here... as someone comments the RG titles that Rafa has won have not at all been easy for him starting from #1 to #13... apart from his opponents he has been fighting a birth defect in his foot (of all things for an athlete of his ambition and stature) all along... to add to that one reads that some friend of his pulled the net when he was leaning on it to make him fall and break his elbow - in 2004 preventing him from competing that year as a mere teenager... how kind is that!!!! great friends to have who do such things to you :-) unlucky Rafa... but the Gods who see everything will bless him always...hope they do...
These types of players are always the ones that scare the life out of me as a Nadal fan, it's always the big hitters that come out of nowhere to pull off an upset against him, the players that just come out hammering every ball and finding the corners with every shot. Always a nightmare.
Being tall and having great forehand and backhand helped this guy in this match. Rafa's top spin balls on clay helped this tall guy to go for a bombastic forehand.
Damn... that was a good match! Brands threw the kitchen sink at GOATdal over and over again and it just kept coming back one more time one more time one more time 😂
@@sirbenjaminthebold3943 You don't know what I meant, do you? What I meant was that Brands tried his hardest and played as well as he could, and therefore he didn't lose. Nadal kept fighting like he always does and was able to hold off Brands, so he won. Just watch Strokes of Genius: Nadal says that after he lost the 4th set of the 2008 Wimbledon final, his uncle thought that he was going to lose. But Nadal said that even if Federer wins, he will not lose
Wow. Which year was this? I’ve never aware of Daniel Brands at all. He plays a very good tennis. Trust me if it wasn’t Nadal, he definitely would win the game easily.
Mental + Athletic ability. Daniel was better than Nadal in the first and played as good as him in the second (his level did not drop that much but Nadal's rose). After the second set, due to his exigeant playstyle and average athleticism + most importantly he lost the sacred fire under pressure
So, where is Brands now? He has tremendous shots. Rafa's rivals can learn much from him. Rafa played the more important points better, but that guy had weapons that could hurt Rafa even on clay!!!
Jeje.
I remember a very curious story about this encounter. I don't know how Daniel Brands landed article, from coach and tactics expert Craig O'Shannessy's, on the 2013 Rome final between Federer v Nadal. What I do know is that he followed very well what was in that article and almost won two sets against Nadal. A good player can beat a legend if the plan is right.
Does this prove that tall guys have an advantage of playing against nadal on clay because his tall balls match perfectly in their best hitting zone? Isner also gave nadal a hard time
I expected him to deliver a bagel or breadstick. 6-4 6-3 against Nadal after two lengthy sets is still a pretty gallant showing against the king of clay in my opinion
Brands is a big guy, 6'5" and over 200 lbs. He's built like Richard Krajicek and hits the ball hard as heck when he wants to. Nevertheless, he has struggled on the ATP tour probably because of defensive liabilities. www.atptour.com/en/players/daniel-brands/bc72/overview
Every tennis fan knows that you don't usually win matches on clay by hammering the ball and going for a lot of winners. You will win some points that way but you wear yourself out, commit too many errors and often end up losing. Steady guys and good defensive players win lots of matches on clay.
Es un castigo constante escuchar a Roberto Centeno comentar un partido de Rafa Nadal, el viento sopla en cada comentario meted sangre nueva a comentar partidos
Those 3 are not exactly humans. Everybody who came close can't continue for a long-run and slipping down in rank orbecame injured like Wawrinka or Murray. Tallant and mental toughness are important but you need a great amount of physical health. Not everybody has it from nature.
Los que digan que la altura en el tenis no es una ventaja tremenda en muchos aspectos de verdad estan perdidos , la verdad ahí se ve que rafa es de los jugadores más consistentes de la historia al poder adaptarse mas rapido que los saques de brand 😂
What's your problem with schwartman? He is consistent player at least outside gs. Goes to decent round in gs. Brad's play is not suitable for clay win. Schwartzman have tenacity, speed, forehand and shot making. Look for berrettini, what's he doing in top 10?
@@poojapatil1867 i never said schwartzman isn't Good, i said this guy is tall and powerful strokes more powerful than diego yet he didn't do much on tour
@@curiousgeorge6921 tennis is not only about being tall or having powerful stroke ..it's combination of all shots and physical capability. Plus things like not having injury, constant improvement in game, surrounding environment have much more impact. Brad was also not bad. He was top 50 player. Anyways I got your point.👍
