Random but thank you for calling their era what it actually was the mid 2000s instead trying to lump this time period in with the early 2000’s/y2k like everyone does to the whole 2000’s decade these days. It’s become my new pet peeve 😂

what people dont see is that all this happened because the 2000s was dominated by pluto in sagittarius last decante, from 2004 to 2007, it actually started in 1996 and then Britney made it huge in the late 90s, Britney invented R&B pop with Slave 4 you around 2002, then it gradually became a thing with Beyonce and a lot of rappers of the early 2000's, until around 2003 when Britney left, then in 2004 it became Lion vibes as pluto in sagittarius progressed into Leo that year, so it all became a social sleak, everyone had to do R&B and then Nelly and Gwen did it so well, then Fergie joined, and lets not forget Lindsay did some good R&B hits around 2004 and 2005, it was good times, but it ended as pluto left sagittarius early 2008, when millennials started to shine because it was their turn, so Rihanna, Katy Perry and all of them became huge, and the others left, this happened because Pluto arrived Capricorn, then the 2010's had such vibe, until around 2014 that the second decanate started, it was still Capricorn times but a little different and electronic dance came back, then around 2018 it became another decanate and the pandemic started so it all became more electronic and a.i generated, now its 2023, Pluto its literally by now in its last days, what we saw in early 2008 is finally leaving in like a week, no joke, next thing is Aquarius , things are about to get just robotic bye

Gwen came from a punk rock background, so she had a lot more natural rockstar energy than her contemporaries in the pop world. Being a woman in rock music is hard, so for her to rise to the top of the food chain anyway is a sign of her pure, raw, talent, energy and charisma.

Lots of people compare Doja Cat to Nicki Minaj, but I see influences of both Fergie and Gwen, especially in her Pop leaning repertoire. 🤔 In fact, I see elements of Gwen in early Gaga as well as Kesha. And Dua Lipa often cites Nelly Furtado as an influence. I don’t think they get the recognition they deserve for their genre-bending creativity and bold visuals, especially referring to Gwen! The way she operated at an intersection between Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop and electronic sounds was impressive to say the least. 👏

Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado, and Fergie are the women, alongside Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Jennifer Lopez, Avril Lavigne, Ashanti, and Beyoncé, that I think of when I think of women in music that defined the 2000s decade. Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry don’t count because they debuted in the industry towards the end of the decade so I firmly put them as 2010s music artists. Even Rihanna who technically did release 4 albums between 2005-2009, didn’t become a global superstar until her fifth album, Loud, released in 2010. Her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, (2007), made her a superstar, but it was no where near the level of Beyoncé during the 2000s, and it wasn’t until the release of Loud, that Rihanna was starting to become recognized as a true force to be reckoned with. Younger people who didn’t come up in the 2000s tend to overstate the importance of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga during this time. These women were all newbies just getting their feet wet in the industry. The reason why Kanye West infamously interrupted Swift during her acceptance speech for Best Female Pop Video at the 2009 VMAs, was because she was still relatively unknown at the time and he felt Beyoncé, (the better known, more popular female at the time with the better video), was more deserving. And as far as Lady Gaga, did she have a huge breakthrough year in 2009, yes absolutely but what’s one year at the end of the decade compared to someone like Britney Spears who dominated most of the decade, especially the first half. I’m glad this video is highlighting the pop cultural impact of Gwen, Nelly F., and Fergie. Their albums definitely shaped and influenced the sound for the later artists that followed.

The Sweet Escape pretty much started as songs that weren't finished or selected for LAMB, all produced by Pharrell. Gwen did some new material like the brilliant title song with Akon but it never meshed the way it's predecessor did. The sound of Loose pretty much inspired a ton of similar sounding albums involving both or either Timbaland and Danja including Justin's FutureSex/Lovesounds, Britney's Blackout and Madonna's Hard Candy. The dissapointing part was those were huge peaks for all of them and none of them ever came close to it again with Gwen the only one still really in the spotlight because of The Voice.

Good work! Interestingly enough, what became LAMB originally belonged to Kelis. The tracks were selections for her follow up to Tasty, but she fell out with The Neptunes and they systematically tried to blackball her; snatching the tracks and giving them to Gwen. The core of their dispute was money and Kelis (alleging) being taken advantage of via a shady contract agreement.

@@Kevin-rg3yc Yeah! It’s super interesting, right?! That’s also why she had such an adverse reaction to being sampled on Renaissance. Because of said contract, Bey’s camp didn’t have to involve her. They went directly to the folks that they were contractually obligated to. 💁🏾‍♂️

there's no denying that the mid-2000s offered some of THE BEST and most appreciated gems of the entire noughties - female artists of that time period had edge, distinctiveness and creative vision that would be later picked up on by artists like Gaga or Kesha (I'm thinking of Gwen's whimsicality that Gaga used to establish herself or Fergie's half-rapped, half-sung pop songs which style would, to an extent, work as a foundation to Kesha's, or should I say Ke$ha's, most recognizable tracks). Also in the mid-2000s two of the possibly biggest pop comebacks of history happened - Mariah's Emancipation and Madonna's Confessions!

Fergie’s album is underrated. All 3 are really great, classic albums. I would say that Nelly’s best album is probably Folklore though - the songwriting and vocals are so good.

I grow up on No Doubt music and then Gwen was my huge idol in my highschool/young adult years. I got the Sweet Escape CD as a first gift from my then boyfriend and even owned Gwen´s doll. Because of her I tried to experiment with my clothing style and made some of my own clothes. I still love songs from LAMB and Sweet Escape to this day.

Made me happy watching you discuss the music history of a decade where I fell in love with music for the first time, amd Gwen was the very first female singer I ever heard from the 2000s especially with the song from No doubt "Hey Baby" in 2001 and then their cover of "Its My Life" in 2003, then her solo album dropped with the song "Hollaback Girl" in 2004/5 and "Luxurious" before The Sweet Escape Era where "Cool" dropped in 2005 before the rest of the songs and Album into 2006. Then I heard Fergie and Nelly around the exact same time in 2006 and 2007, and then when 2008 I was sad I didnt hear from them all anymore, especially Gwen, these songs and albums to me will remain their best

honest pleaseeeeeee do a video like this for the consecutive early 2000s debuts of Beyonce (2003), Ciara (2004), and Rihanna (2005). i think each of them had their own interpretation of r&b and distinct images that set each other apart from one another, but they also had many similarities being new black women making their way in the early 2000s pop space.

CIARA was a part of this group as well. From 2004-2007. The Goodies and Evolution albums were huge eras. Well, they were her only hit albums. LoL.HAHA 🤷🏾‍♂️😂

ciara, beyonce, pussycat dolls, kelly clarkson, and rihanna were probably the hugest pop girls outside these three in the video until blackout by britney and the fame by lady gaga changed the sound to that electro-pop sound that dominated the latter aughts.

She's considered more R&B, but she's definitely one of the most prominent R&B ladies from the 00s. I want a video like this but for the R&B ladies. And props to Ciara for getting more big hits after her prime, even if it didn't translate to every album

Its not explicitly stated per say. But all three albums relied heavily on the “urban sound” and pulled from black cultural aesthetics and music. Interesting…!

Very true. Another commenter mentioned Ciara's first two albums: Goodies and The Evolution and yeah, if you think about it Ciara was leading the newly fresh crop of pop girlies along with Ashanti. Ciara and Ashanti had to walk for these pop girlies to run.
@chillbro5145

@@XxVirginBabyxX it pisses me off how people always downplay and disrespect Ciara and Ashanti. They were black women that blew UP in an increasingly less diverse industry. They had several smash albums and smash hits that charted all over the globe. They held their own just fine against Beyonce, Rihanna, and their white peers in their respective primes. They deserve more credit because they crossed over (even if not for super long) and are still sampled and cited as an influence by younger artists today

2006 was a fun time. I had graduated from high school and started college. These ladies were the the BPGs of my day lol My introduction to Nelly Furtado was Timbaland's remix to Turn off the Light and her feature on Missy's Get Ur Freak On remix, so I always expected her to make an album like Loose. If anything made me go WTF it was Folklore
