Whether it's an actor, an athlete, an author, or an academic, when someone with a high public profile announces their interest in becoming Catholic, there can often be a wide variety of reactions from both the religious tradition they come from, and the new Church family they're joining.
And often, they're rushed into the spotlight and encouraged to begin sharing their story immediately.
JonMarc Grodi and Matt Swaim share how The Coming Home Network -- which was founded by a pastor who left public ministry to become Catholic -- thinks about the care of these souls, and how they encourage fellow Catholics to treat them as their new brothers and sisters in the Church.

This came into my feed just after I watched Candace Owens at the Catholics for Catholics conference. I'm a bit reserved when I hear of a public figure entering the Church. Maybe too much so.

Please pray for my family. My dad's side of the family is born and raised protestants. I'm related to several pastors. My mom did her best to raise me and my brother as Catholic. She's still Catholic. Several of my family members married Catholics who later converted to become protestants.

Lots of wisdom in this podcast. As a Catholic, may I surrender myself to God's will and allow His Holy Spirit to do His will in me. May I pray for this and agree to it each day, each moment. May God have mercy when I slip and may through the sacrament of reconcilliation forgive and strengthen me through His grace.

Found it so funny when Matt said some people watch and read catholic topics under cover. That's definitely me. I'm so worried that my wife will find out that I want to convert, because she's going to be extremely angry with me and might put a strain on our marriage.

Keep praying in love to Our Lord Jesus and ask the prayers of His mother, they will guide you. And when others are angry, just keep loving them regardless of the hurt it causes you. Forgive for your sake and theirs. It's not easy, at times reallly hard, I know and it's a journey in faith but cling to Jesus and ask Mary to pray for your wife and to guide you. May God bless you with all He knows you truely need.

You cannot be an effective evangelist unless the potential convert can see Christ in your life and actions. Share the Gospel, answer any questions, to the best of your ability; without debate and allow God’s Holy Spirit complete the work. Then make sure you are contactable if required.
