2-4 years in my experience. For the longest time we would suggest 1-2 years but that was just the vacuum truck drivers trying to get them more work 😂

This was an awesome video. Thanks for using someone's comment and telling us all when it should be pumped out. Keep up the excellent content... thank you.

I get our septic pumped every other year for peace of mind. (Every odd year) 1,000 gallon. Had to get my drain field replaced 10 years ago. Being super cautious I know. Trying to avoid a headache.

Put a filter on the outlet, if it's clogging alot then it needs pumping otherwise don't bother

Great video! I use a 10' piece of 3/4" emt. I flattened 8" on one end of it by hammering it with a sledge hammer. I then bent the flattened end 90 degrees. I slowly lower it into the tank until it comes to rest on top of the sludge layer. I then mark the pole at ground level with a marker. Then I push the pole down through the sludge layer until it hits the bottom of the tank. I mark the pole again, and pull it out. The distance between the 2 marks shows you how thick the sludge layer is. Before I put the cover back on, I pull the effluent filter and clean it with a garden hose, I also hose off my emt pole.

The last time my Septic Tank was pumped out was in 2016. We usually do it every 8 years! But, since the last time, I started throwing away toilet paper, and not flushing anything that was mine. when my Fiance moved in with me in 2020, she also adopted that principle, and also doesn't flush anything, except excrement. So, I figure that my tank is in pretty good shape, all things considered. Since we DONT flush any TP, we can buy a little bit better Toilet Paper, that's thicker and softer : ) . I do however. still have a couple rolls of that thin Scott TP that we put on the roll if someone comes to visit, because we've noticed that visitors don't like to abide by the rules, of just throwing away the dirty TP LOL. Great video Dom, love you guys!

I've found it better to flush some toilet paper and put less contaminated paper in bin.
@gauravvij67
@gauravvij67 3 месяца назад
Roughly 1/3 in toilet, 2/3 in bin this way can use thicker paper from second toilet roll holder and damp it down from tap

Useful vid here, and definitely *+1* the bidet suggestion! If like me you live in a country 🇬🇧 where space or money for them tends not to be available, note you can also do the same thing on the toilet itself if need be. (Proof: Finnish train toilets and others with _Bidet heads_ in them) 👍 Question concerning *TP in Septics:* TP is supposed to break down in water and will do so in the churning environment of my municipal sewer, but given the shorter distance to septic tanks does TP tend to break up enough (If at all) and does it get broken down further (e.g. To fibres) by the natural septic process, or does it just contribute to the scum layer at the top? How much does it benefit a septic system to have the TP dealt with separately (e.g. not flushed)? 😇 ¡Mucho gracias desde RU! 👋🇬🇧😇

There is a busted air pump in my neighborhood & the guy has had 5 heart attacks so far. His installers never came back to check on him during those first two years so the air pump blew from a clogged filter. It's also floodplain where the installers left the riser-lids about a 1/4 inch loose so that all the tanks could vent-air & illegally intake not only groundwater but regular surface water as the property has a 0-inches of soil above the December water-table. The pump tank looked to be full of bubbling black tar full of mosquitoes. I hope to get them like the Uvalde police chief, these Tx Health Departments don't function properly.

So I purchased a house and the homeowners were not present as it was a vacation home. So how do you find the distribution box and see roughly if they have neglected to pump and if the drain lines in the field are starting to back up?
@dieseldragon6756
@dieseldragon6756 2 месяца назад
Finding the *Septic* tank, the easiest way (If you have access to them) is checking the house plans - A copy might be on file with the local authority, local rules permitting. Otherwise the things to look out for might be the cleaning point (Which gives you an rough idea of what side of the house it's on, though this isn't a dead cert) and (After long spells of hot, dry weather) any rectangular or circular patches of ground where the colour of the grass differs enough for those shapes to become visible (In which case, suggesting a tank very close to the surface). 📡 Once you know where the tank is the access lids will usually be found near the outside ends, where the baffles enter from the house and leave to the drain field. A thin steel rod driven down to tap the top of the tank and listening out for differences in the sound may help to distinguish the lids from the tank top. 🔈 Otherwise, better to call out the professionals as they'll have the equipment to find a tank where elementary methods fail or won't work in your particular situation. ☎🧑‍🔧😇

What about aerobic Systems? How do you tell if you need it pumped and is there a drain field with them? And what is the proper process for pumping out an aerobic system? I've heard some of the champers need to be refilled with water right away as part of the pump out.

So here’s a question I have, if you’ll see it and be able to answer. I’ve started caring for my grandparents property, and I noticed a hole in the yard while mowing the front section near the Septic Tank. No water is pooling on the surface, just a 4” deep divot with a solid line on one side. To my knowledge it has been 15-20 years since the last time the tank was pumped, could this divot indicate that the septic system has begun to fail?

How much to pump a septic?
@sharon314
@sharon314 Месяц назад
So I and my husband lived in our home for 31 years, and only pumped it 2 times. Never ,ever a problem. I put old Buttermilk down the septic once per month, then do not use a bunch of toilet paper ( in Europe, rest room attendant will give you one square of paper to use, because they do not want to be having problems with putting in new plumbing in streets that are hundreds of years old!! Also , our grey water ,bathtubs, showers , washing machine, goes out to our fruit trees!! Via PVC pipe then a hose to move it to different trees. And never pour Grease down the drains. When I sold my house, I had to Certify my septic, $ 650.00, and it passed with flying Colors !!!!

The _sceptic_ tank will be any group of people who watch debates in Congress or Parliament and challenge or question the motives and proposals of the speaker. 😋 As for finding the *Septic* tank, the easiest way (If you have access to them) is checking the house plans - A copy might be on file with the local authority, local rules permitting. Hey! I’m very curious how the plumbing/sewage system works in USA. I had major issues with my plumbing/sewafe and decided after long consideration and good contract to go to council/goverment sewage. Septic tanks etc are a big hassle. New 2 septic tanks would’ve cost me 8000€ and the work 2000-4000€. On top of that the drainage field was broken and that is 8000€ with works etc. It is illegal to have the field these days… in this country i mean.

I live in a society where there is a sewer.. what is the smell like of one of these sepetic tanks?
@dieseldragon6756
@dieseldragon6756 2 месяца назад
Depends what goes into it. If it's the sort of stuff people normally flush into sewers it'll smell absolutely foul, while a well kept system that only has washing water, poo and pee put into it will smell a lot more amicable. And if my recent personal experience is anything to go on; A system where poo and pee are handled separately might eliminate the worst odors almost completely! 😇

We've got a problem where the water / TP is flowing over the barrier from the dirty " Mierda" side to the side that goes out to the drain field. And we have these little white pebble looking things floating on top. We've been in the house since Nov 2020, There's only 2 of us, and we stopped putting any TP in the tank since April of this year. Everyone around here puts their paper in the trash and puts it out with the weekly trash pickup, and doesn't pump until a problem arises since all that goes down the drain is " Mierda" JAJA. I know bad!
