Upgrade when your current one stops working. Plain and simple. Depending on how your up keep is, it may last 2 years or almost 10 years. Either way, it’s a great money saver, and let’s you stick with something you know for longer.

I will be upgrading my phone maybe for the next year to iphone se2 which is really affordable and well supported for at least 5 years later.

Paid off an iPhone X 256 gb in February just to turn around in April to resign a new lease for an iPhone 11 Pro Max 256 gb. Nothing was wrong with my iPhone X I’m someone who takes care of their phone, my point is I paid off a phone just to turn around a pay for another phone that did the same thing because I just had to have it because everyone around me was getting one. Honestly I liked my iPhone X better but believe me when I say I’m not upgrading until this phone completely falls all the way apart, I don’t care if I have the cash one day to buy one straight out I’m not upgrading again until my phone is on its last leg! I'm basically where devices go to die. I buy year (or more) old tech at deep discounts and use them till I can't repair them anymore or they become so slow that they hamper overall usability. I still use a monitor from 2005 today in 2020. It's still a very usable display that's still chugging along. The only issue I've had with it was having to replace a blown capacitor on the motherboard back in 2017, $3 part and a few hours of work to dismantle, figure out the problem and replace the capacitor. I hate the trend of disposable tech that everyone seems to adopt now. Did you manage locate your balls, or are they still MIA? She hid them well huh. 👀🤣
@techno_eclipse

hahaha, no comment about the last part LOL. Yeah I wish I knew a little more on fixing old tech, I use a monitor from 2013 I believe, and it still works great! I think a lot of people tend to forget that tech does not make the creator, or gamer. I have to remind myself that star wars was filmed and edited on something that my phone would laugh at.

I used to be the same person who had to have the latest and greatest phone but after watching the original video I decided to keep my phone and not upgrade. Had the iPhone X for almost 3 years and only issue is the battery is bad now but easily fixed with a battery replacement. New battery for me £45 or new handset £1000. It’s a no brainer. The amount of people who think as soon as the battery plays up they need to upgrade the phone and don’t think about a simple battery replacement.

I have been using XR for almost three years now. I was tempted to upgrade my phone many many times every time I heard people talking about the new iPhones. Also, because I only got 64 GB on this device. It seemed fair to upgrade. However, after deep consideration, I think I don’t need to upgrade just yet. The new iPhones are no big difference from my old one when it comes to design. The cameras are also not that different. And about 64 GB storage, I think that keeps me in a healthy habit of being selective of what is worth keeping on my phone ( pictures, videos, and apps) and what not. The more storage I have, the crowded my files will be, for I wouldn’t mind keeping all the pics, videos and apps with the big storage I have. In the end, it will make me want more. Not healthy. Thanks for this video.

I still get support for the phone, but lack the new iOS. I don’t know if I need it since I still get security updates, but visually I have no problems for the basic stuff I do. I upgraded to iPhone 11 Pro from 8 plus in fall of 2019 and it seems to get better with each iOS update. Feels just as snappy as day one and the camera software feels like it’s improving. If this trend continues, the next time I need an upgrade I will stick with Apple because they do seem to care about the longevity of their devices. I’ll hold onto this phone as long as I can because I don’t think they’ll make this size again 😅

I bought an iPhone 6s as my first phone in September 2018. I bought that phone because it was cheaper than the newer models but I'm currently regretting that choice. As of currently, I am still using it. It is having some major battery problems: If I don't plug it in while I'm using it, it powers off. And when I turn it back on, it's at 10%. It doesn't matter if I was using it when it was 100%, it always does that. And before that started happening, the battery life would go from 100% to 10% in about a good 15 minutes of active use. I also have 32 GB of storage, so I'm always going to my files and deleting a bunch of stuff for more room. It's also been kind of slow... It's also really outdated. I have been thinking of upgrading to the iPhone 11, but I'm not sure. I don't have a job and I'm about to graduate high school and go to college, so it's not like I have a steady income. I feel like I should just buy a new battery and wait another year or so.

Same. I'm still using my S9 as well. It still does everything I need to, but the battery life is just bad and it doesn't get support anymore, so I was thinking of waiting until black friday to see if one of the new flagships will be substantially cheaper, then I might upgrade. But one thing I really despise about most flagships nowadays is the lack of a headphone jack and the lack of a microSD slot. I just feel like I'd be a bit disappointed to not have those features, but I don't think the'll bring those back unfortunately

It’s the best I can afford with money being as tight as it is at the moment, even though the battery gets really hot and it doesn’t last until my 10:00 morning coffee break without me reaching for my power bank, to which it is tethered to for the rest of the day. Anyway, when you trade in your old phone for money off a new one, any retailer will give you a bigger discount for a working phone compared to a faulty one or one that doesn’t work at all.

I would say the answer is when the iOS upgrade is not supported or before then just a bit. Mine won't take iOS 16 though still works on the latest software. I actually don't like technology that much I mean I do and use it though I am not a fanatic of it like some people are. If your phone does what it needs to for what you want and also need of course you can stick with it. There are some security concerns with older iOS so they say because hackers can keep up and know how to get into your phone. They can hack an older iOS system more easily so your phone may be at more risk. Nevertheless they eventually learn how to hack the new iOS and then they have to replace it again. This is always going on with my phone. I don't get hacked though the warnings come. First one version they say is easily hackable so they do an upgrade and this goes on to yet another one for the same reasons. So the iOS upgrades enable more virus and hack-proof software yet the hackers learn how to keep up. This way in another few years iOS 16 will be replaced with another one. If not in one or two or so

I’ve been holding on to my iPhone 8 since release, battery life is getting bad and the housing is all cracked (except for the screen for some reason) but I’m trying to hold on to it as long as possible… Best case scenario I wanna at least keep using it until iPhone 14 release, then I can get that one and use it until it’s crippled :D

Glad I watched this video because I have an iPhone XR and I do believe it’s time for me to upgrade. It been doing really well but it got to the point where I have low GB storage because of all the updates that I have to do, and my battery die fast even though I don’t play games on it or be on social media as much. After listening to your video and believing that you should only upgrade your phone if you NEED to, not if you WANT to. So I am going to buy the galaxy 24 ultra because if I am going to upgrade I might as well see how Samsung phones are since I never had one before.

My old iPhone 6 was starting to slow down and the battery life was horrendous and it wasn’t getting software support anymore so I thought it was time to upgrade and I upgraded to an apple certified refurbished iPhone X It’s Really good just because the iPhone X is a couple years old don’t think it’s in any way a bad phone It’s still really fast

Phones are just tools to make your life easier. Do I need 3 lenses on my phone? No. I can take some decent photos with one lens and focusing on using natural light etc. Do I need the fastest processor? No. I’m not running intensive apps on my phone. I still use a 1st gen SE because it does what I need it to do-reminders, podcasts, music, messaging, email etc. I’m not a big gamer, but any games I do have live on my iPad Pro. Watching content too obviously makes more sense on the iPad. This really frees up the phone. There’s no point overloading your phone with apps you don’t need or never use. Have the key things-exercise apps, banking apps, communication apps, music apps, news apps. Lose everything else. Thinking like this has made the 32gb model work for me-iCloud storage really helps to free up that physical space. With iOS 14 support for the 1st gen SE (which it handles surprisingly well) the phone will be running the latest iOS until September 2021. As most app developers support the latest and penultimate software releases at least, this will mean the 1st gen SE will run all apps until maybe iOS 16 beta period in Summer 2022. That’s six years of usage from new. Great video-more people should just have a think about their own usage-can save so much money, whilst developing more of a sensible relationship with technology

I had my iPhone 7 for the last 3 years but am tired of never having enough space for things that are important like schoolwork and even wanting to do my old hobbies i had with an iPhone 5 like editing and streaming because they won’t update. Even if I deleted everything something manages to take up space

Honestly I would just recommend using your phone until it stops receiving updates or just straight up stops working. I've had the same phone for 5 years now and it still works fine (I have a iphone XR) and honestly I don't need anything better than that it's still receiving updates so there is almost no point in upgrading from it.

The major reasons for upgrade could be price, higher storage, battery life or higher camera or display features. I recommend that people with iphone 10 above need not upgrade to iphone 12 or iphone 12 pro max even if it has better camera, unless its a significant upgrade from below iphone 10 models. Since 5G network is being introduced for the 1st time it consumes more battery, if you can wait until next year September, the Iphone 13 and iphone 13 pro max would come with higher battery life and higher refresh rate of 120 hertz. or even the same one is fine if it still works pretty good.

I have a iPhone 11 and the battery has just dropped to 80% health, and its driving me nuts. I spend a lot of time mainly watching RU-vid on the go and at work, I was debating to upgrade my phone or just change the battery,, Think I will just get a new battery this time, after many years of upgrading too the next iPhone is always exciting but when out of the box I then realise it did the same thing as the old and left feeling a little disappointed each time.

I’ve had a Huawei y6 2019 for around five years and the experience has been okay!however it lags a lot when watching videos or playing games, the battery lasts about six hours at max,the clear case I’ve been using for it has become yellow and dirty, the phone itself has lots of scratches due to the hundreds of times I’ve dropped it and for the last couple of months one of the two speakers doesn’t produce any sound anymore! And also, both my friends and parents have upgraded their phones and I am super jealous!!do you think I should upgrade?

I was considering upgrading from the Note 10+ to the S22 Ultra but for now will hold off for another year or two. I can afford it (by saving money within 2 to 3 months) yet for now my Note 10+ still works fine and does what I need it to do. When I think about it I can't justify the upgrade for now especially as the S22 Ultra has no SD card (which is a deal breaker for me).

I really enjoyed the 5c models maybe not so much the color pallete they came out with but just the fact they werent metal /aluminum backing and easy to hold, but tried using that phone in 2020 and it was pretty sluggish, like your related video about trying to use a 4 in 2022 it wasnt as bad but pretty close lol imessages worked but slow. for me im thinking of upgrading because i have a 12 mini. but my friend has a iphone 13. slightly larger phone and a year newer. however we both have the same cell carrier but i get 2 bars versus his phone he gets full bars with 5g no issues where as im constantly speaking with ATT customer service and I've already swapped the phone out for another one courtesy of ATT and APPLE. so idk if i'm just cursed or if its an issue that the smaller phones dont get good cell reception? so in that respect, i would upgrade. even though i shouldnt, i pay good heard earned money for it not to work.

I'm very practical and always think over things a thousand times before spending. Lol! It's 2022 and I'm still using an iphone 6 which is still working perfectly fine (for me); at least still serving its general purpose as a mobile phone.. Bumped onto your video because I was searching WHEN is the tbest ime to buy a new iphone 🤭 I was planning to upgrade two years ago but covid happened. Covid hindered me from making unnecessary spending 😅 now will probably wait longer for iphone 14 or will buy iphone 13 if I got impatient 😁😬 so should I wait for the new iphone or get the latest iphone available in the market now?

Another thing is just because the new phone comes or maybe your 2 generations behind like I am right now I have the 11 doesn’t mean what you have is bad all of a sudden. My iPhone 11 is still a pretty great phone. Sure it doesn’t have 5G or an OLED display but it’s still has 98% of what the 13 does. Why would I want to upgrade to pretty much the same phone.

I did buy the iPhone X new, why? Because my old phone (a 5c) was too old, couldn't update apps anymore, batterylife was so bad, not enough storage etc. My iPhone X still works fine, its the 256gb, way more than i would ever need, but it was the only device they had in the shop so i just bought it, there was an action in the store and the phone was 10 percent off. Now 3 years later, i replaced the battery because it was becoming terrible, but i still use this phone, i don't need to upgrade any time soon! I still use my iPad 3, people tell me it is a dinosaur, but it works for me, i just use it for emails and some facebook from time to time, it still works just fine, i don't care about the newest ipad pro, and they are way worse because they bend so easely. My macbook pro is from 2012 (retina) and this macbook just works fine, bought it very cheaply because there was a blemish on the screen, a small piece of the top poloriser was missing, i glued a small piece back in place and you don't even see it, only if you pay attention to it, and past week, i found a perfectly working white macbook in the trash, its the 2010 model, which can unofficially be upgraded to catalina, which is more than enough . . . I hate when people throw away perfectly working devices! And the iPhone X is the only device i bought new back in the day, i don't want a new phone, you can imagine how long i have used my 5c ;)
