My great uncle was in Vietnam. He was a soldier, and apparently the enemy soldiers had given a grenade to a very young girl and she was running to his troop with it. He had to make a choice, his men, or the child. He shot her dead. He came home and often would wake up screaming. It really fucked him up decades after it happened. Shits fucked

My aunt was a language teacher for the canadian military and was often sent to the lands they recently "conquered" to open schools for children. She thought them french and english to help them comunicate with the surounding soldiers. Often members of the community would become like assistant teachers. Well one time there was a female assistant teacher that was married and had two kids. Both kids were students at the school and at the time there was still a resistance going on. Their mother was very nervous and visably distressed. My aunt had the soldiers that were protecting the school search the mother and they found out she was rigged with explosives. They took off the vest she was wearing and threw it out the window. They then found the husband outside the school with a detinator and stopped him (idk if they killed him or not). Appearently, we was ready to use is wife to blow up the whole school with his children in it.

My dad is in the military and he won’t talk about the experience he had with the kids so it was probably traumatic

I don’t know why, but just seeing the title of this reminded me of a story my friend told me. His brother’s friend medic in the military. He often saw many corpses and for the most part, it didn’t really affect him. But the day he saw a dead dog, it gave him PTSD. My guess is it was the thought that an animal was trained from birth to fight lost its life over something it can’t even fathom. Same with kids, they are forced to fight even if they don’t know what they’re fighting for.

I had an uncle who was a soldier in Vietnam, when he came home he was depressed and talking about how he was forced to kill innocent children because he couldn’t tell if they were armed or not. Vietnam messed him up so bad that he would wake up screaming and trying to strangle my aunt (his wife) nearly every night.

Sometimes I wonder if humanity will ever stop fighting each other. But even then, I already know the answer. Never.

I'm not a soldier and never had to do any of it, but I grew up in afghanistan I have seen worse it's kinda common for us if an idiot starts shooting an AK47 around us or to hear bomb blast every onc in a while. I hope no any kids in the world has to go through this kind of living we have been and soldier who didn't had a choice but to shoot in order to protect their brothers and platoon it's just kinda an instinct of survival and I thank you all soldiers who have helped us make our country more peaceful and Salute to ya all.

Child soldiers. A staple of proxy wars. The worst part is not those who die, is those who survive. I met a dozen of them in an internment center in Colombia, and they were just like the surviving kids used by the drug cartels and other criminal organisations I met from El Salvador or Panama taken by child protection services by the embassy. It is devastating, looking in the eye of kids who saw their first corpse at 9yo and it was their buddy who got shot at age 10.

This reminds me of the movie "Beasts of no nation". Its pretty messed up. Definitely would not recommend a kid watch. It covers this subject from the child's perspective.

My Grandfather was in Korean War fighting for the Chinese army, he told me that war is a black hole that destroy everything, even kindness from a man’s deep heart.

My dad was apart of Operation Desert storm and he's told me stories about watching tents of soldiers become vacant in a matter of weeks. He lost over 9+ brothers during his tour. This man cried once he heard Chris Kyle died because he actually met him before coming home.

Not a soldier but: I was an aid-worker for the Red Cross during the late 90's-early 00's in the DRC during the second Congo war and we used to come across a lot of child soldiers when we were giving out aid. However, these children weren't being press-ganged into military service per-sec but rather the men of the village had gone off to fight in the war and died so their sons had took up arms to protect their village and their female relatives that were left behind. The military used to provide convoy protection for charity vehicles and they said: "We can fight the war or protect villages but we can't do both so these boys being able to protect their villages from militias who are able out-flank us is the only way we can fight this war unfortunately" It was kind of fucked up that these poor boys (and sometimes girls) were walking around with automatic rifles and shotguns like it was completely normal which it was for them because they'd never known anything else :(

If any soldiers are reading this, thanks for your service and I hope you find peace with what you've gone through, you don't deserve to be haunted by your past, but I am sure you probably are. Please be okay and seek help if you need it. You dont need to be alone in your struggles if you have any.

No matter what I will always feel bad for the children. They were told to do that, taught horrible things, forced to learn weaponry they can barely hold. They die before they even know what anything is, they barely got a chance to live a life. That's horrible to think about.

i got one, my grandfather was in vietnam (marine), and when he and a small platoon were advancing to east vietnam, they came across a small village. there was 1 single road, about 30 feet wide, and there were several abandoned market carts on the sides. they were walking, bunched up on the right side, clearing houses (all abandoned), and all of a sudden, a kid come out from behind a cart on the left side. he had an AK 47, and my grandpa was the first to open fire, and the only one to open fire. he fired a burst of bullets, 2 hitting the kids torso, and the next hitting his neck, but the scary things was that the kid didnt die instantlt, and as they moved towards the kid, he was coughing up bloood crying. my grandpa has serious PTSD from nam, and he would tell my mother stories when he was drunk on whiskey. she never wanted to hear the stories, but my grandpa got so emotional if she left. he just wanted someone to talk to (mom was 11 when he told these stories)

My dads marine friend was in Somalia doing crowd control when an 8 year old kid came out of the crowd and shot my dads friend point blank with a pistol. My dads friend lived thankfully. Another one of my dad's friends was handing out candy to a kid when he was sniped in the back in Baghdad.

My best friend is a combat medic, and I pray to God that he doesn't have to end up in a situation like these.

Hearing even one of these stories is enough to convince me that war should always, always, be a last resort and nothing more. I will never understand how so many people, Americans especially, think that war is “glorious” or worthwhile in anyway. The only thing that I would consider worth putting people through this for would be to prevent more of this kind of thing from happening.

When I was deployed to Iraq I was forced to go the field hospital trauma unit and lemme just say this there was more kids than adults....... We talking arms & legs missing it was pretty fucked up! I never killed any kids though. There was 1 kid who was 6 that was missing his left leg and both arms his right arm was completely gone and the left was gone from the elbow down. His dad told American Soldiers where an I.E.D was planted by 2 insurgents & those 2 insurgents found out about it. Well those 2 insurgents went & paid that family a visit that night they planted an I.E.D outside their little mud hut. Next morning the 6 yr old got up to go play outside and he opened the door took 1 step out the door and was blown up. That was 13 yrs ago & still can't unsee that!!!!!! WAR IS HELL!!!!

I was talking with my taxi driver, we know each other well, this was back in Vietnam, he never specified where this was (if he was there or heard about it) but some of the troops in a convoy would pass out some ration packs to the farmers, and one time a soldier pulled a pin on a grenade and tossed it to an elderly man, he caught it and, well you get it The point is, war is horrible, and people are also horrible, no matter what side of the conflict, people are the bain on existence, oxygen thieves.

Im a veteran, one mission I was in there were children and very young preteens fighting us. We nailed them easy.

Mexico here. an army lad i had once told me that he doesnt like to go on patrol, because you caan get ambushed. he was used to ambushes, he was not afraid of that at all. he was afraid of killing kids. childs, 12-17 years old, working for the cartels. Because the main reason of him to enter to the army was the narcos: they killed his son. 17 years old in a bar. crossed fire, he was in a bad moment in a bad place. he said to me that killing a narco is a thing, but killing a child, working for the Narco is another. he faced children armed with AR-15, AK-47, pistols, even one who tried to launch a grenade. it was between killing them, or let his squad die. Finally, he met his fate in one random battle in the south of the country and he died on service of the Mexican State. he didnt earned a single medal, but he earned not only my respects, but my support to the anti-narco establishment action. _Un soldado en cada hijo te dió!_

14:02 I'd feel bad for the kid because honestly he never really had a chance, he was born in to the situation, brainwashed by the adults in his life, most likely told by them to do it and died in the process. You don't have to be torn up over it, just acknowledge that if you'd been born in the same position that easily could of been you, we don't get to chose where or to whom we are born. And some of us are honestly doomed from the start.

I have a friend who was in the Royal army, he loved the job. Ever since he got discharged he's been open with most his experiences. One night he got drunk, said how much he loved us but that love and laughter quickly changed and he started crying. He broke down screaming how he was a murderer, that he shot a kid at basically point blank range. I don't know the scenario because we tried to calm him down and the story just turned to mummbles and sobs. He was honourably discharged after being injured in a raid, not for the kid situation (in case some people were wondering)

I have a friend who told me a story about his grandpa that served in Vietnam and that his unit were on patrol and they were passing this village when they got ambushed. After shooting back and pushing the enemy back, they saw that the enemy were using the dead bodies of children as cover to protect them from the bullets. They interrogated a person they captured and they said they killed everyone in the village just to be able to ambush their unit. He told me his grandpa gets a distant look when ever he talks to a child bc it reminds him of that day.

A teacher I had was a marine and said a plan has 4 steps 1: make a plan 2:get in position 3:execute plan 4: throw it out the window when the shootings starts

This story doesn't have to do with killing the kids but it has to do with them in Afghanistan, a story from my uncle. He said when in Afghanistan the kids would try to climb up on the military trucks and try to steal stuff, but my uncle who was a captain would always drop hot sauce in their eyes and they'd jump off. I'm sure he has much darker stories and maybe he possibly killed some kids which is sad, but he's never told me anything else other then the hot sauce stuff. He served for about 20 something years. People, thank anyone who is or was in the military for their service please.

My fomer teacher (before that soldier) mentioned enemy combatants using kids as bulletproof vests. The only way to discourage them was shooting them without any hesitation. He said a kid with such parents wouldn't probably better off alive anyway. Kill or be killed. These psychopaths simply don't have any respect for anyone's life

You send off units, some of whom are barely old enough to vote, and not old enough to legally drink, possibly to maim and kill other humans half their age. My mother was in the military. It was her first and only time being deployed into Afghanistan when they came across a small village she said. A child came up to their vehicle they thought he would ask for water, as most of the children do. But instead he pulled out a gun and shot my mom in the upper arm, she had no choice but to shoot. As sad as this sounds it happens alot. ISIS would hold their family hostage and make the children do things, promising the safety of their family.
