You never forget your first trip to the Buc-ee's. Or your 32,495th trip because you've learned that a store with a beef jerky wall, endless toilets, and brisket sandwiches is the only place you ever need to shop at.
My foreigner husband thought I was crazy when I insisted that we needed to stop at Buc-ees on our way to San Antonio. Two hours later he’d tried on cowboy hats, sampled his way through all the beef jerky (and bought several pounds), bought several magnets for family members and looked at all the kitschy clothing and home decor. Now it’s a regular stop on all our road trips for the coffee and bathrooms (yes, they’re that nice!!).
@@UltimateBreloom I came here to comment the same thing. isn't it crazy that such a major city of texas doesn't have heb? but I heard they are coming to dallas finally!
I’m a native Texan so I’ve seen my fair share of Bucees. My family stopped at one last week after a quiet week on the beach and I was NOT READY. Nothing prepares you for the sheer chaos. It truly is the Disneyland of gas stations. The building was packed to the brim with people gazing out at the sites like tourists, children were roving in packs, and trying to order kolaches was a harrowing experience. If you’re visiting Bucees for the first time, go BEFORE you decompress because your stop will definitely put you into fight or flight mode.
I think I've had the fortune of stopping in less than peak times, such as on work travel. Since I was alone last Thanksgiving, I took a field trip to get kolaches in the morning a day or two before. There was a small line, but not chaotic.
I'm from Texas BUT moved to Tennessee and I've seen and been to a lot of buc ees in Texas, Tennessee is building THEEEEE BIGGEST GOT DAMN BUCKA ROO of Buc ees OMG this is one to see and visit can't wait smokey mountain here come more people
I was in Buc-ees when I realized that my father dresses like every other Texas grandfather (khaki pants, flannel shirt, ball cap). My mother and I emerged from the bathroom and started looking for my father. We went through at least 5 similarly dressed elderly men before we found him. It was terrifying. Still spent about $100 though.
@@TexasLadyS There must be a special Grandpa clothes store somewhere. My dad used to dress pretty snazzy back in the day but the minute he became a grandpa, those clothes magically appeared in his closet.
Took my mom to Buc-ee's. Had to go right back to take my son. It's definitely an experience. "OMG, they built Texas on a slab in South Carolina!" Basically, they did. Everyone on my holiday shopping list is getting something from Buc-ee's.
We had our first Buc-ees experience yesterday at the brand new one in Crossville TN. Wow. This video is spot on! One word of advice: it’s a nightmare trying to keep track of four kids in this place. Yikes! The chocolate-covered beaver nuggets were delicious and the brisket looked amazing. I loved the “art gallery” on the way into the restrooms. This place is the Disney World of gas stations!
And don’t forget, when the hurricane and flooding hit TX, Bucc-EE’s opened their doors to military and law enforcement, free of any charge. Mattress Mack (corrected) in Houston did the same.
I have a friend that worked at a Buc-ee's years back, after Hurricane Ike, Buc-ee's and the liquor store were the ONLY and first two things to open in their town. It literally was WalMart for a couple of days while more power was getting restored. She worked like 18 hrs straight when it first opened, it was pretty insane. Want to say it was her and another gal and the manager to cover all 24 hrs, that was IT, and trying to make what they had in the store last while the mgr was working on getting trucks in with some goods/gas. Anybody from the area knows Mack is the embodiment of H-town ❤. He came from humble beginnings and doesn't mind giving back in time and money both, realizing it was the city that made him the business success he is today.
Buc-ees is an institution in Texas. The famously clean restrooms, beef jerky, nuggets, brisket (a staple of Texas barbecue), well over 75 gas pumps in most locations, home decor, novelty items, and unique clothing can all be found there. It's like a 7-11, a gas station, a specialized but cheap food place, and a Target merged in one.
so if i go and have a nuclear shit and paint the whole stall 10 different shades of wtf. i can catch a magic pit crew appear give the ole divine touch?
My husband took me to Buc-ees for our 20th anniversary because I'd been pestering him about going to become official Texans. It was one of the best date nights ever!
As a Texan, I have been in several different Buc-ees over the years. I was thrilled when they opened one just a few miles from me. Now I am craving their fresh cooked Buc-ees Beaver Chips. Those things are addictive.
I stopped into a Buc-ee's for the first time in April 2024. I had driven past them hundreds of times but never had the chance to stop. It exceeded all my expectations. I got my picture taken with the Buc-ee mascot and bought a stuffed beaver exactly like the one at 1:38. I loved it, but my wife absolutely hated it. She has anxiety and the place was too "peoply" for her. I know it was crowded, but that kinda added to the charm for me. I can't wait to stop again in the future.
I got dragged on a family vacation. Buc-ee's was the only part I enjoyed. As someone with a lot of food allergies, this place actually had a good selection of snacks I could eat. Coolest gas station ever.
I live in North Carolina. I was in St. Augustine, Florida going home from Orlando. I stopped at a Buc-ee’s and am I glad. It’s like a paradise for southerners.
Buc-ee's is a State Landmark that's been scattered all over The Great State of Texas! Any that show-up outside of Texas, well, we thought we'd throw y'all a bone. 🤣
I live less than a mile from one. It's our go to fast food option. Can't believe y'all didn't mention the case with dozens of flavors of fudge. They give free tasting samples.
That sums up a Buc-ee's. Good food, good merchandise, and definitely a stop to help you stretch on those long drives. Also, they are not kidding about both cleanliness of the restrooms and the size either. The only way you will ever see a line at a Buc-ee's restroom is if there are about 3 or 4 buses outside as well as the usual customers. Ok, it might be a slight exaggeration, emphasis on the word slight. And finally, as a food reviewer on RU-vid going by the handle of Strictly Dumpling said, it has better BBQ than you would find in New York City. Yeah, I know it isn't a high bar to clear, but it is still funny a Texas gas station can beat any BBQ place in New York City.
It's gotten too popular though, last time we stopped at the Bastrop one there were no pumps open (they have around 70) and the ladies restroom had a 20 lady line, even with 35 seats that's gonna take a while
I love Buc-ee's. We've got the first one in Florida in Daytona Beach. My sons took me for the first time, a year or so ago. I was flabbergasted! The pictures here don't do it justice. My husband laughed when I told him we had to go, and refused for a long time. However, there was a new one in Alabama, along I-10. We were driving to Mississippi, and I made him stop. He is now a fan. Of course, we stopped on the way home as well.
I didn't know they had one in FL. I live in Tampa though. I don't think I'd travel just to see Buc-ee's but maybe one will open here eventually. A side note, we've had Wawa's for years and I haven't set foot in one. But no one I've grown up with has raved about it or even spoke about it.
@@janejones7638 I've heard rave reviews of Wawa as well, never been in one either. Just never had occasion to. If you get a chance to go to Daytona Buc-ee's do. It's pretty cool.
I went to my FIRST Buc-ee's on May 4th in Richmond, KY and I finally found Banana Pudding close to what my grandmom and mom made. Was glad I stopped there and the clerk helped me find a hotel nearby so I was able to stop from the night.
My first experience at a Buc-ee's was at 1 in the morning on a road trip and to this day nothing I've ever experienced was more euphoric than the 3 hours I spent in that building.
If they had tables in there, you would eat breakfast, go shopping, eat lunch, more shopping and grab some food for supper and go home (with one or more trips to the bathroom mixed in)
I made the mistake of filling up there yesterday (we have one nearby and they're always the cheapest). Oh my goodness the amount of 4th of July weekend people was insane. I only spent 45 minutes hanging around instead of my 2 hours, it was such a mad house. In all seriousness, they've got it all there. And my over the hill butt has numerous pictures of me with the Buc-ees guy and the statue (especially when he was wearing a giant mask - so cute).
I just went to the Buc-ees in Kodak, TN yesterday (I had never been to one) and man oh man was this spot on. The bathrooms were amazing and I spent over $100 there, mostly on food. Worth it haha
And their gas is like $.80 a gallon less than everybody else is in the entire state, so you can afford that extra extra extra large brisket sandwich for $12.99! And some home made potato chips…AND a candied pecan cone…with an extra large drink! MY favorite place off of the interstate fer sure!
I noticed they said commode. As a Southerner it surprised me to travel and discover that some Americans have never heard the word commode. I rarely call it a toilet
We called & still say restroom or, for the ladies, it was powder room. My mother said referring it as toilet, was common, LOL. Of course, she was born in 1926 😃
My wife and I stopped in one for the first time in August and were shocked and impressed. I have NEVER seen bathrooms so clean and when someone would come out of a stall an attendant would immediately go in to clean it as if he were on a game show called "Clean That Toilet!". I saw a sign outside advertising their pay and then I understood why the attendant was motivated - $20 an hour is not bad. BTW - The brisket sandwich was awesome.
We went to our first in Leeds, Alabama. I told my wife and daughter they needed to check out the restroom. "Naw, I don't need to go." I told them they needed to see it not necessarily use it. They were so impressed they ended up using them.
Came at the perfect time because I just had my first buc-ees experience. The brisket sandwich is good, but those candied pecans and beaver nuggets are the best thing to ever happen to my taste buds.
Texan here... we literally opened a new bank account with TDECU in order to get the Buc-ees credit card because you get a discount on gas. Felt a little silly back when gas was
Lived in TX for 30+ years. Buccee's was a staple there. Moved back home to Wisconsin (no comment). Then I heard the news....WE'RE GETTING A BUCCEE'S!!! Of course, they're making us wait a year but STILL! WOO HOO!
As a native Texan, there definitely some fightin’ words said, especially by Liz. I loved the Pantera concert in the New Braunfels location comment. You must have an old school Texas on staff.
@@kylepmore2842 My very first year in Dallas, I landed a side-job as a food runner at the AAC for Stars and Mavs games. That was my "work" song. Funny thing is, I didn't learn until earlier this year the drummer for Pantera was who wrote the score for "Puck Yeah".
That brisket is awesome. And he has the almighty beaver nuggets in hand. Road food! The bathrooms will sell ya'll on stopping...after you walk 47 acres of gas pumps.
Brought my family from Mexico. They were so overwhelmed they walked out of the first one. I got them snacks. By the end of their trip they had mugs, T-shirts, candy, hats, shoes, and who knows what else. When I travel I bring them something back. It IS the Disney World of gas stations. 🎉
Ryan's chroma ghost is trippy. If I was driving around and stopped in, I'd be a Liz. Matt better get his Buc-EE home, he might be supporting 7 more kids he doesn't even know he had.
When they opened the one in Alabama on I-10 on the way to Orange Beach it became a road trip marker for us. We ALWAYS get gas when traveling between Mobile AL & Panama City FL. It is literally THE busiest intersection in south Alabama. Geniuses built it on the corner of the exit that everyone HAS to use to get to the beaches and attractions. Sheer genius!
We just got back from Gulf Shores and I thought that Buc-ees store had just opened and was having a Grand Opening celebration because there was a mile-long line of cars waiting in completely stopped traffic to get in!!! I was shocked to find out it opened over a year ago lolololol
Stopped by there on the way home to Texas from Orlando and it took us 45 minutes to navigate around it and we didn’t even get out because it was soo crowded. We decided we would hit up another one back in Texas later in the trip
Just got back from Perdido Key today and I think got robbed by a giant beaver last seen wearing a red ball cap living in place called buc-eee Just off I-10 near Orange Beach. Not mad at him he was actually very nice. He let me leave with fresh brisket , fudge and drinks.
@@jmit3491 I know. I'm originally from Texas. The point is here in Atlanta, where I live now, you can't find them unless you go to the Buc-ees in Calhoun. Most local donut places near me are boutique shops. It's annoying.
My son and I ran into Mary at a 4th of July event yesterday. Very sweet lady! And I love the Buc-ees restrooms and pulled pork sandwiches. We will go out of our way by a hundred miles to visit one!
I plan my route to and from most destinations in Texas around whether there is a Buc-ee's on the way. When you're on the road where Buc-ee's doesn't have stores, you really, really begin to miss Buc-cee's bathrooms.
I went to a buccees for the first time in my life this past weekend. I told my wife that it's like a combination of a circle k, a super Walmart, and a Disney gift shop.
That true. I live in Oregon but visit my daughter and family in San Antonio 2 or 3 times a year. Bucee’s is fun and I love H.E.B. Always bring something back to Oregon from there. Love Texas.
Stopped there with my parents yesterday. Dad just had to see it. It was overwhelming, especially for my mom, so we ended up just getting food and leaving. The brisket was excellent though, as was the iced coffee.
I live 2 exits past the one in Leeds and I always go there. The secret as a local is to go before or after the rush. The rush lasts about 22 hours, so you have a limited time, but it is worth it. Also, learn the back roads to get there, and never try to go there from the interstate.
We live in Memphis and the Leeds location is (sadly) currently the closest to us, so anytime we’re heading that direction we have to stop! We have found that late night is the best time to visit, as you can just drive right off the interstate and park near the front door - one night we got to our hotel late and went to grab a bite at Buc-ee’s at 130am and *almost* had the whole place to ourselves! 🤩
My family lives in Leeds. My first visit back last summer, my sister and I went to that Buc-ee's at 2am. We were there for hours lol. Hands down recommend! I literally can't stand that place during the day, though....
We go camping in MS every March. First time I ever went into a Buccees, I told the cashier 'HOLY GAS STATION BATMAN!" and she damn near fell over laughing.
I am Texas born and raised but live in another state. My husband and I went to Texas a couple of weeks ago and it was his first time. He really enjoyed his first Buc-ee’s experience. I was watching this will laying on the Buc-ee’s pillow pet we got there. 😅 Man I really wish I could go to a Buc-ee’s all the time.
Some friends did a rod trip going from Buc-ee to Buc-ee. I understand that is a thing. Read that Tesla cut a deal to install charging stations. I hope it takes 4 hrs to charge so my wife won’t get mad at me for hanging around.
The more I hear about this place, the more I desire to visit it. They haven't reached us here in NC yet, but there's always several opportunities on the way to our next family vacation down to Florida...
Oh yeah! Good ol Buc-ee's 😁. During 2020 when everything was closing early becoming store ghost towns at 7pm. Buc-ee's said naw come hang out here like you use to do at Walmart. They stayed open 24/7 and stayed spotless clean 🥰🥰.
They are building a buc-ee’s at the 407 (Gatlinburg pigeon Forge exit) I heard a rumor it’s supposed to the biggest buc-ee’s but we will see. Talk about traffic jam at that exit.
Matt: I'm going to steal your phrase Gas Pro Shop!! Brilliant and so true. Yes, God blessed Texas and gave us the Cowboys. Then Satan got a hold of Jerry Jones and he ticked-off Jimmy Johnson. Then ol' Jerry decided to be Coach, (y'all know that it's true)!! Thusly, we haven't even sniffed the Lombardi Trophy since Daddy George Bush was in the White House. Now I'm depressed and I'm going to Buc-ee's to do some Christmas shopping.
As a guy from Cali, when I visited, the wall of jerky floored me. Sweet and Spicy is my favorite, but the Bohemian Garlic is bomb. Get the Ghost Pepper at your own peril. Yes I woke up early to go for a 30 minute drive just to get some brisket tacos. Yes I’d do it again. Didn’t even mention the fudge counter, or the fresh candies nuts. For if you’ve got a sweet tooth. Plus, the ONLY drink I get from the fountain is sarsaparilla. It’s like if root beer got a doctorate and won the Nobel Prize.
We were in awe when they built one here in St. Augustine, Florida. So many pumps. So much to see. And it's a decor and clothing store inside?! 🤯 I still get a little mental giggle when I see the "Potty like a rock star" billboards. The bathrooms are spotless and the food is so good for a gas station. You can also get knock-off Rae Dunn dishes for twice the price while you fight through crowds of customers, and weirdly textured eggs in their breakfast offerings, so you definitely get a mixed bag when you visit the place. 😆
I got the Buc-ee's experience three years ago on a road trip to Florida. I think I stopped at most of the ones along I-10 along the way, and it was a genuine treat. Makes me wish they'd make their way to Arizona, because they'd have instant customers!
I freaking choked when she compared it to Sheetz and Wawa, because I have described Buc-ee's to people as "If Walmart, Cabela's, and Wawa had a throuple and it made a baby." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
TBH, I didn't know what she was saying but I knew it had to be bad. So I Googled "Sheetz" and got my answer: Apparently 1) they're based out of Pennsylvania and 2) they appear to only be located in PA, OH, the two Virginias, and NC. I've only lived in two states my whole life (Tennessee & Texas) with stomp'n ground man-hours in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. So I was truly ignorant on this. Wawa appears to have similar state locations plus Florida. So NOW I understand the reference: Sheetz and Wawa are essentially a Yankee Buc-ees. I'm the same way with White Castle. 1) Don't ever call a Krystal a White Castle and 2) a White Castle is a "Yankee Krystal".
My favorite Buc-ees billboard was on I-10 near Tallahassee going west: Buc-ees, 794 miles. That was a few years ago, before Buc-ees expanded into Alabama.
Yeah I'm born and raised from dallas area...raised in the city next to the city that used to hold the trianin camp for the cowboys...and I was surrounded by football..my home city was literally called the cowboys...from the right spot I could see the spiral staircase from a infront of my house...but ever since Jerry Jones ran off Jimmy Johnson we've had what i call he Jerry Jones curse.
