Hope you enjoy today's video, Don't forger to DROP A LIKE For More Original Tennis content! One of the most BRUTAL Matches in tennis history! Gael Monfils vs Kei Nishikori. An absolutely insane match-up.
2 down to the wire epics between these 2 in 2016. Once in Miami and another here both where La Monf had match pts. Also then had some role reversal with their 2017 epic in Montreal this time w Monfils saving the match pts to win in epic fashion. Bonkers trilogy w all 3 being excellent watches and even crazier that it’s only a footnote in that golden era of men’s tennis. Absolutely wild all 3 matches ended in deciding set breakers with 5 match pt saves from Kei in Miami, 3 from him here, and 4 from Monfils in Canada. This is the first I’m seeing footage of their Olympics match since watching it live, great find!
Rio 2016, Nishikori beats Monfils by winning 5 straight points from 3:6 in final set tie-break. Montreal 2017, Monfils beats Nishikori by winning 6 straight points from 2:6 in final set tie-break. Now we know the whole story...
@@WivoRN Nah, no MP saved in final set tie-break, doesn't count 🤣 Anyways, seems as if Monfils after these 2 matches from 2016 has had enough and in not so good 2017, decided to really give a shot, and it certainly paid off.
Respect to Gaël Monfils. 20 years on the Tour with all the sliding around even on hard courts, he really is physically gifted AND it's a testament to his training.
If you look at the points after that, there wasn’t much he could have done except for the double fault. He had two aces and the other points were just well played by Nishikori.
Bro you can't just assume Monfils threw this tiebreak when Nishikori clearly did his best to won majority of the next points, there's nothing much he could do to win those points unless his stamina doesn't give up on him but then everyone is human after all so you can't expect him to remain consistent throughout the whole tiebreak let alone the whole match.
