Good afternoon Julian! Greetings from Florida… The sunshine State. I’m looking at a solar system for my home. Which the proposal consist of a 7 kwh system to cover my 6.25 average usage average ($130/ mo. for FPL). The total is 18 panels and I really need to investigate to see if this is a purchase or lease. I do not want to lease. But the terms are $107/MO for 25 years. That’s 1.49 APR. And also using up the 30% tax credit of $9291. I’ve watched many of your videos and realize exactly what I want with the right kind of installation, also the mini inverters and a quality contractor. I really appreciate you being so transparent and really helping out the community. If only you were more local for me lol. Thanks for any input you can give to my situation. Keep it up! You’re going places.

Julian, I live in Southern Cal but north of San Diego County. Either way, I’m as sunny and hot during the same months as San Diego. Your calculations are based on people’s electricity bills going to zero. Reality is that, unless we install storage batteries (e.g. Tesla Power Wall) our nighttime power use from the electric company is never going to be zero (refrigerator, freezer, and other miscellaneous equipment that cant be shut off). In my case, during the hottest summer/fall nights, my AC is running even at night. In addition, power companies have been trying to get a law passed to require some sort of minimum bill for solar panel users based on the fact that they still have to provide infrastructure to a solar person’s house and they feel solar users should still pay their “Fair” share. Can you do a video laying out the costs and ROI for a solar panel system with battery storage included?

I really appreciate your effort and engagement on the topic. But, I'm not familiar with the US energy market but in Sweden, we have cold winters without much sun, night time for quite a few hours all year around and so on. Your numbers have quite a lot of pre-requisites that I think many shoppers (US or global) aren't aware of to make them work in the end. For example, to make those payback time calculations you do be of some realistic use, you should have stated that the system MUST cover your daily/hourly energy needs 24/7, regardless of time of day, month or season - and somehow not require a single kWh from the grid (batteries are out of scope in this video but imho, even more important than microinverters). Most will still be getting those consumption bills (here we get 2, one from the utility/net owner and one from the electricity supplier/retailer of our choice) that will, if I'm not mistaken, make your numbers not look so good. Especially for folks in the northern states, having badly insulated homes, ineffective appliances and so on. I get that most US homes are not heated by electricity as ~20% of Swedish ones are (abundance of hydro and nuclear for 50 years..it's all coming to an end now, connecting us to the European energy markets, closing nuclear plants and having worthless politicians without any long term plans and actions) but still, Americans uses some appliances after sunset no?

These are the economics in Southern California
@kbob8424
@kbob8424 2 года назад
Great video! To others watching, please be aware. Every market is different. These economics may work in his area but not yours. Where I'm at, because of the way the utility operates with solar homeowners this strategy may not work as explained.

This may be correct for California but may not work as well elsewhere in the USA... I'm in Maryland and our solar input is probably less so less energy generated, and my electric bill varies between less than $100 to 199 but probably averages $140 / month. The payback dos not look as quick and I'm old enough to not expect to see break even. :(

You mention that pannels have an approximate life of 30 years. Our roof is already 10 years old, though. Should we replace the roof before starting our solar journey?
@Superiorsolarconsulting
@Superiorsolarconsulting 10 месяцев назад
I’d say a 10 year old roof is probably fine in most parts of the country. You should see 25-30 years of life out of a roof depending on where you are.

Julian, I live in Kaneohe, HI, and my electric bill has been around $1,000 per month for at least a year. I’ve gotten various estimates and all were around $100k for an average 10Kw system. I think they just max out the solar loan. I got an estimate for a turnkey system for $20,000, not including a battery system or labor. Does a PV system cost $80,000 to install?? I don’t think so! What do I tell these greedy bastards?
