I lost my husband of 28 yrs in Feb to ALS, exactly 4 weeks later I lost my mother who lived with us for the last 20+ yrs and 6 weeks after that we found out we had to move because our roof was caving in and can not be repaired. My daughter and I just bought a new build. To say the holidays are overwhelming for me is an understatement. I’m trying so hard but at the end of the day I bed up in my room having another meltdown. How do I get thru this holiday season and keep my sanity?

I buried my twin son many years ago… my husband struggled in a mighty way which fell on me to get him through. Jesus’ loving arms is the only reason that I had the strength and peace. I kept telling my husband … look at me and Jonathan… we have peace. Try it! He is doing better. Not where he needs to be…

First of all my condolences and prayers. I have walked through this journey. All I can say is that it is not easy but the Old Hymn Because He Lives has helped me face the tomorrows. Give yourself time to grieve but try to make an effort each day to read your Bible or a good devotion. Remember Christmas comes if you decorate or not or if you give gifts are not. Jesus is the reason for the season find peace and Joy in Him. I lost my husband young also and I put up my tree and decorated for the kids. Just do what you can. Love,hugs and prayers. I pray this helps.

You will love it! During the lock downs (when my entire perspective about "stuff" changed) I decided to do up the tree with just 4 elements. Dried orange slices, red berry picks, red tin cardinals, and bells. For the first time ever, the beauty of the tree I so carefully selected years ago shone through. I was amazed by the effect. Took me less than 10 minutes to put up and probably 5 minutes to take down since all the ornaments fit into one small basket. Some of the dried orange slices go out to the birds and some I save for simmer pots all winter long. I've done it that way every year following!

Thanksgiving is my 🦃favorite 🍁🍂time of the year. No way will I take my decor down until after Thanksgiving. I collect turkeys and leave them in my hutch all year around. I love Christmas season, birth.too…..but I love celebrating Christs birth. I will decorate w/ the Nativity, but I just may leave up Thanksgiving til the end of year. This old Pilgrim enjoys thanksgiving year around.

Can you write an inspirational book for us? While I love hearing your voice...sometimes I can't hear myself think. My home is a hot fiery ball of chaos. My daughter and son in law moved in with my granddaughter who was 2 at the time. A few months later my daughter was unexpectedly expecting again! We now have 4 adults and 2 toddlers living in a quiet tiny home. Rents went up and jobs went down in our area😢 So here we are 3 years this December trying really hard to not commit murder of a family member...thank goodness for my strong faith and the patience I have learned along the way in my 64 years! I would love to simplify but right now it's just not in the plans.

Hello we do a minimum Christmas it’s only two of us and a dog and I love I do a ceramic tree that lights up and litttle other things I put out. Nothing big . I don’t buy it stay in storage boxes most of the year.🌲🌲🌲

Great advise ! we just moved so this is the first Christmas in the new home .. I’ve simplified and taken my time decorating. It looks amazing with easy simple accessories but the tree is the focal point so it’s over the top with ribbons, vintage silver and gold ornaments, berry stems and a large star of Bethlehem as the top. Jesus is the reason for the season! Merry Christmas to all ✨

Amy I have decorated already for xmas this year, my mom she is 80 years old, and never she asked for when wood i have the tree up, as every year is the day after Thanksgiving but this year she ask me gigi can you have the xmas tree up this year earlier, so earlier it is ever since Nov 6, I see her happy i think since the morning she is watching tv RU-vid she is seeing everyone decorating jjj probably this is the reason 🙈... your videos are always beautiful, congrats on your weight loss and happy holidays to you, your kids and husband. 😘

Even “uncluttered” and without holiday or seasonal decor, you have a beautiful home. I love watching you clean! When I feel a bit out of sorts or stressed or even down a bit, nothing makes me smile or feel better then cleaning! People always say to me “What do you mean you love to clean?!!” LOL! But it is true. I do. And I love to decorate for the holidays! I really appreciate your video encouraging us to all slow down, be intentional and to simplify our lives in all areas. I am with you Amy. I put very little out for fall and am going to put out only what I love for Christmas. I am 74 and it is getting to be too much to do every year. I am finding the clutter brings me down. In the days we are living we don’t need any more of that. Our hope and peace is in Christ alone. You seem to be such a sweet loving person. Today, November 9, I tackled my pantry, tacking inventory of what I needed to replace, or add. I also made 2 dinners, and a dessert. Got out some Christmas decor and finishing up my flip project, my hutch I found on Market Place for $100. Painting and stencil it. O love flipping furniture!

It’s not that I can’t buy new things this year, it’s that I don’t want to. I have beautiful things already! I’ve decided to forego the holiday decor fairs this year so I won’t be tempted, and since my grown kids aren’t coming home this time, I will be keeping my holiday simple. I’m seeing the bright side… quiet evenings, toned-down decorating, and just enjoying the things I usually miss because of all the flurry.

I'm curious what you do for Thanksgiving in terms of decor since you already took down the fall and is it hard for your kiddos when the Christmas stuff goes up so early. This video really touched my heart! I so want to declutter and live with less, but I also love to thrift and bring home new decor. I don't ever want to be "done" decorating. Since my daughter and son in law started hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas a couple of years, I have found it so helpful for me to take down Fall and then have the house all cleaned up, and then decorate for Christmas mid November. It certainly was not fun when I would start packing up Fall while so excited and have all the Christmas totes in the house, nothing wiped down or ready. It looked like Fall and Christmas decor, plus dust bunnies had a wild party! LOL. Honestly, it caused me so much stress and anxiety! We are going shopping tomorrow then over the weekend I will pack up all Fall, wipe everything down and take a day off. Then next week I am going get my Christmas totes and spend the entire week doing the inside decor. Thanksgiving weekend I will decorate the front porch and then enjoy!

Not sure if it is just me, but all that you mentioned right at the start of this video...started so incredibly early this year... we here in Canada, were barely out of our Oct. 9th Thanksgiving...when it happened overnight... Especially the Shopping Hauls... while it IS fun to see what you guys have down there in the States...it is overwhelming for sure.

This video was exactly what I needed. I feel so overwhelmed this time of year, trying to get it all done. I have about 8 bins of Christmas decor that I'd like to get down to 4. I have so much stuff anymore, I need to only keep what I truly love. It's time, thank you for the motivation! I'm so excited to see your beautiful home for Christmas! Thank you for reminding me to slow down and enjoy. I'm very hard on myself to make every holiday so perfect and special for my family that I end up just totally drained. I'm going to make some changes. ❤

Second comment here , as someone who has moved numerous times , Most of the decor that fit to one house didn’t fit to the next . So yes to being ruthless with what you drag from one place to the next .

Just what the doctor ordered. So nice to see a relaxing, calming video with a really important message/reminder. I've been binging Christmas vids for inspiration, but collectively there is a lot of, "it was only $14.99 which I thought was a really good deal, so I picked up 3."
