28 years ago i was pregnant and lived on phenergan. I was losing a lot of weight and stayed on it the entire time. I was hospitalized last Dec with acute kidney failure due to dehydration and asked for it because zofram did not work. I did not mind that they injected it in the hip. I did not know that it could be abused. Honestly its maddening that abusers make it impossible for legitimate patients cant get it when we truly Need it! Feel better Maggie!

Nausea is absolutely the worst! I have Lupus and Chronic pancreatitis. I am on 4 Phenergen and 3 Zofran a day, in addition to Protonix and prescription Pepcid at night. I have had instances in the hospital where a doctor refused to give me Phenergen. When I am really sick, I have to get IV Phenergen to stop vomiting. I truly feel for you and pray that you are able to get the meds you need to help your nausea. You have the best attitude and have gone through so many traumatic things. Thank you for being so open in sharing your health struggles. It really helps to know that other people go through similar things that I've experienced.

I can relate to this. Combination of chronic illness and my body’s reaction to heat. Some friends of mine asked me to do their wedding invitation photos. They wanted to do the photo shoot at a local park. In the middle of summer. Arizona summer at that. My thyroid and the heat went ape on me. Zofran was my best friend that day. That and green tea with peppermint. We got a video of the behind the scenes stuff to be used for the reception. In said video you can hear me wretching in the background because I didn’t quite make it to the bathroom.

For me, nausea is one of the most brutal parts of crohns. Ive gone on car trips too in order to mitigate it, like you said, sometimes it works, other times not so much. Phenergen is def a lifer saver. Irritates to me to no end that docs don't prescribe it more to crohns patients. Had a hospitalist that refused to give it to me in-hospital. I fired him and had the GI specialist prescribe it. Had no idea that it was or could be abused.
@dacisky
@dacisky Год назад
From what I've heard,it's not abused on it's own,but abused with other drugs to magnify the high of them. No clue how that even works. My Docs know me and know why I need it,so no problem there.

Sorry to hear your day was a bit rough Maggie. 🙁 I too have Crohn's and an ileo, and still get occasional nausea. I am always anemic and last time they checked I was severely low on iron, I got 2 iron infusions because the oral iron supplement made me SUPER nauseous... BUT, I wanted to tell you to try an over the counter iron supplement called Feosol Complete. It came recommended to me by other patients that had a difficult time taking iron and IT WORKS! They are 28mg pills and I can take 3 a time (even on empty stomach) and I don't get a lick of nausea! Please give it a try if you haven't already, it works well for many people. I get mine at Walgreens, but you can find it almost anywhere, Walmart, CVS, Amazon, etc. You've given me such great advice for the last 3 years (I'm 3yrs post op) I just wanted to give a little back to you if I could! 😊 Thanks for all you do for the IBD community Maggie, we love you! 💜

When I'm nauseous (but not on the verge of vomiting) smiling can actually help. My amazing husband actually found that little tidbit of advice for me. Apparently smiling helps to suppress the gag reflex and it does work sometimes. I get nausea that comes out of absolutely nowhere where I get a really flushed and my mouth starts to water. Smiling helps until the Zofran can kick in.

I have emetophobia as well, & have had Ulcerative Colitis for 37 years now, & I can deal with the constant runs, but I PANIC if I (or anybody) might vomit. My worst experience was constant vomiting for over 24 hours. I finally had to go to the E.R. My oral Zofran wasn't working unfortunately. So they gave me a bag of I.V. Zofran, but it didn't help. I was also having the runs from the flare-up, so I was getting normal saline as well. Next they gave me I.V. Kytril. I continued to vomit about every 30 minutes. So then finally I had another bag of Zofran, & thank goodness it worked that time. It's the most embarrassing thing to completely panic if someone is going to be sick, & if it's me I can't run away from myself! LOLLOLLOL!!

I went in my Kroger in Texas today and they had a sign saying they would no longer sell drugs with a combination of Promathezine/Phenergan and Codeine. I guess there is a cough medicine. This may not help but when I had Cancer, I took Meclizine for nausea. One Dramamine has Meclizine, the other doesn't but my doctor gave me a prescription. It really helped and I still take it even though I don't have Cancer. Also, I took Levsin for my stomach----and still do. My stomach has bothered me my whole life.

I think nausea and abdominal cramping are the 2 worst things to deal with. Question for anyone; my new GI tested me for a few things and I've been diagnosed with excessive bile in my large intestine and SIBO. She prescribed cholestrymine (I only got a tiny swallow down and it upset my stomach), and an antibiotic that exacerbates heart conditions(I have 2 heart conditions, POTS, and was just diagnosed with SVT)and causes palpitations. I emailed the GI office to tell them I can't take those meds. What's an appropriate time frame to wait for a response before calling the office? There was also another script I won't take as it has a bad interaction with 1 of my meds plus I already have severe dry eyes and dry mouth (it's commonly used as a drying agent for excessive sweating, but can be used for abdominal pain).

How do I go about asking for IV fluids? I have Gastroparesis and my GI system is slowing down even more. I am jejunal feeding tube (j-tube) dependent. I get all my calories(formula), meds, and fluids via my j-tube, I am lucky to get 1,000mLs of fluids in a day. I’m supposed to get 1,500-1,700mLs of fluids and that’s just not happening. I used to be able to sit down and pour water into my j-tube and function fine. Now if I flush more than 30mLs at a time I get nauseous, and pain in my jejunum. I was wondering about IV fluids a few times a day. I have a port as well, I don’t know if I could manage it at home as well
@sunflowerrosem.8651
@sunflowerrosem.8651 Год назад
I've done iv fluids at home thru a PICC, on and off, for almost a decade. Also did TPN at home. It's not a big deal after you get the routine down. And if you have a great home health nurse to teach you all the sreps. My IBD specialist ordered it for me after I had been on TPN initially, and then later my nephrologist would call in the weekly orders based on how I felt. If you have good medical insurance, it shouldn't be an issue. If you have an hmo, you may have to go in to a procedure center to get your fluids. Best wishes!

@@sunflowerrosem.8651 I have a port and manage IV antibiotics regularly at home. I’ve never had a home health nurse because my family doctor says I’m capable of handling things on my own. Im in Canada so it’s up to him if he thinks I need a nurse and if I asked he would get me one. But I do my own port and tube care myself (flushing the port changing the feeding tubes). It’s really just getting him or my GI doctor to agree I need IV fluids, I’m not a fan of my GI doctor and I find she overlooks my concerns. I am getting a new dietician so maybe she can help. Im in a small town and I normally see the dietitian that works in the hospital but we have a new community dietitian working with chronically ill patients so maybe she can help.

Do you get to choose who you want to see if you're not feeling a good match with your GI Dr? If possible, can you change GI drs to someone more supportive? My nephrologist set up the original TPN, iv fluids, then after a bit left me decide on my own what my needs were, based on how I felt. I hope your new nutritionist will be a helpful partner in your Healthcare needs. Everyone feels better when they have a team of drs that listens to them! Good luck!

Could it be constipation that has cleared by the time you get to the hospital for tests? Are you sipping half your weight in ounces of water daily so it doesn't run right through you? Are you keeping hot foods hot and cold foods cold? I went for a colonoscopy and allergy tests and they found nothing. After years of frustration I asked a pharmacist at the local Walmart if she had any idea what it could be. She said a lot of people have trouble with dairy and that I might want to eliminate it and see if that helps. Sure enough she was right. It was an intolerance not an allergy. You may want to ask your pharmacist if they have any idea what could be causing your trouble. Why don't you go to the emergency room as soon as it happens if it happens again so they can check you in real time?
