This is an essential oil blend for sleep. I’m making more than I really need for one use and putting it in a 5 ml glass orifice reducer bottle. That way, I’ll have a “full stock” of this blend and can use it more than once. That’s why it’s called a stock blend!
One stock bottle holds about 125 drops, and since we only need 10 to 15 drops per use, this blend can last for a long time.
Since I’m using so much essential oil here, I’m measuring it by ml instead of by drop. I’m using a little glass graduated cylinder. If you don’t have a graduated cylinder, you can calculate about 25 drops per 1 ml of oil.
The recipe is:
1 ml Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) (1:39)
1 ml Green Mandarin (Citrus reticulata) (2:22)
2 ml Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) (2:43)
After I added the Green Mandarin to the graduated cylinder, I remarked that I had 2 ml. I meant that the Green Mandarin and Lavender together made 2 ml of oil, not that I had 2 ml of Green Mandarin.
At 3:34 you can watch me pour the blend into the orifice reducer bottle. The orifice reducer part snaps right into place when I screw on the lid (at 4:03).
You can use this essential oil blend for sleep in different kinds of diffusers. I have two in the video. One is called the “Spa Diffuser” (4:35), and it’s a lightweight diffuser that’s easy to carry around.
The other is my favorite diffuser! It’s made by Puzhen and it’s called the “Yun.” Isn’t it just a work of art?
Aromatics International has a wonderful selection of diffusers: www.aromatics....
If you want to make an essential oil blend for sleep in an Aromatherapy inhaler, you can use your stock blend for that too. (5:07) Use about 15 drops in an inhaler.

Great question, Terry! Mandarin comes in three different varieties: green, yellow, and red. They’re all Citrus reticulata, and are all produced at different phases of the fruit’s ripeness. The chemistry and “orangey” aroma is a little different with each one. Green Mandarin is pressed from the small, immature, green fruits. The aroma is fresh, sweet, and a little tangy. Yellow Mandarin is pressed from fruits that are more developed and yellow. The aroma is a little sweeter, with a nice balance of “tangy” or “sour.” Red Mandarin is pressed from ripe, mature fruits. This aroma is more sweet and floral.

How often and for how long would a person sniff the inhaler version of this blend ?
@aromatherapyoils
@aromatherapyoils 5 лет назад
Jenn C you can use the inhaler several times as needed. In general 3-5 times through the night, but more is fine. If you follow the recipe given, the inhalers are not harmful even if you use it frequently. Should you feel you are getting over exposed to it - feeling dizzy, headaches nausea, etc.- stop using it and take some fresh air and drink a lot of water

Dear Andrea. What is the defrend between clarysage and sag. 💕
@aromatherapyoils
@aromatherapyoils 6 лет назад
Great question nm reza! Some oils can have the same genus and different species. There are many different species of sage that come from the same genus Salvia and the safety considerations can change with the different species. Each species can have different therapeutic properties and chemical components that differentiate how we might think about using each oil. Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea) has more of a softer aroma than the sage we would use in cooking - it’s a sweet, floral, woody aroma. Clary Sage is emotionally uplifting and is wonderful to calm the mind

@aromatherapyoils
@aromatherapyoils 5 лет назад
Hi Erika! There are many wonderful companies. We like to recommend buying from companies that import directly from the distillers, that test every batch of oil with GC/MS, and that share the batch specific GC/MS reports with their customers. This ensures quality and demonstrates accountability. Here are a few we can recommend: - Aromatics International - www.aromatics.com - Essential Elements - www.essentialelementsstore.com - Florihana (Europe) - www.florihana.com/en - Aliksir (Canada) - www.aliksir.com You can read about GC/MS testing here: blog.aromahead.com/2009/12/04/essential-oil-industry-standards-aromatics-international-supports-gcms-testing

I will often combine oils from a purely aromatics standpoint but knowing the chemistry of the oils will help to make a blend effective for sleep. The certification program teaches the chemistry of the oils so that you can blend from this perspective. For the inhaler, is it 15 drops of each lavendar, green mandrian, and bergamot?
@aromatherapyoils
@aromatherapyoils 5 лет назад
Hi Anna! To make an inhaler I used 15 drops total of the stock blend that was a combination of Lavender, Green Mandarin and Bergamot. If you haven't made the stock blend, you could make the inhaler with about 8 drops of Bergamot, 3 drops of Lavender and 3 drops of Green Mandarin.

The short answer is- there could be. The long answer involves chemistry of the oils, taxonomy and talk about variety in the Citrus reticulata tree. For the purposes of this blend you're probably safe using your mandarin oil for the green mandarin in this recipe.

Hi Andrea, Is the oil from the bergamot fruit or herb photo toxic?
@aromatherapyoils
@aromatherapyoils 6 лет назад
Bergamot ( Citrus bergamia) essential oil is extracted from the fruit of the tree and this can be phototoxic when applied to the skin at certain dilutions. Generally using only 1-2 drops per ounce is a safe amount to avoid any skin reactions when the area is exposed to the sun.

I just listened to a video on RU-vid that said all good essential oils have the Latin name, if not they are Fake. Is this true?
@aromatherapyoils
@aromatherapyoils 6 лет назад
Anna Garcia, you should have a Latin name for each of your essential oils. This helps you to know what plant it was extracted from and therefore would know if there are any safety issues with that particular oil and its therapeutic properties. A Latin name on the bottle does not always guarantee that your oil is pure.
