25$ per rental per jump. 100 jumps x 25$ = 2500$. A used rig is about 5000$. A new rig is about 8000$. 200 jumps will pay for your used rig. About 300 jumps will pay for your new rig. A new rig will hold is value longer. So you can sell your new rig if you take care of it at probably 6000$. A used rig about 4000$. These are things to think about. So, you'll end up with an actual cost of about 2000$ which again, not renting, paid for itself on less than 100 jumps. All told, buy new container and reserve, buy used main of you can find it and then, every jump you can know that you've made a wise financial decision. The time to sell is after 300 jumps (or more) on that rig and down size with the money you spent on the first rig. Skydiving economics.
Recently got my A license, saving currently so I will likely be able to purchase a rig around the time I achieve my B license. Couldn’t resist buying a full face helmet already :)
can you make a video on traveling with your gear. Like tsa and airline info.. best travel bags.. check in or carry on.. general traveling with skydiving equipment info.. Please!!
Even tho i can rent those here too (im in Rio de Janeiro), during these crazy covid times i think ill just at least get my own helmet and suit. I know the guys at the skydiving company are doing their best to keep all their equipment safe and clean, but it would def be one less thing for me to worry on the back of my head. By the way, your video about jumpsuits is excellent as always and def helped me to better understand and make a decision on what to get.
@@SkydiveVibes getting my jumpsuit from this brazilian brand called FX (ww.fluxorsuits.com) and helmet from this also brazilian brand called fortuna (instagram.com/capacetesfortuna). Gotta give local businesses some support, yeah?
Great info Cat on this video and that is why I subscribed to your channel. I am still a student skydiver in Canada and Progressing as a skydiver. I got a new skydiving jump suit royal blue 4 mouths ago online. At are drop zone you have to have a 100 skydives before you can have a helmet with a video camera mounted on the helmet so after many more skydives I will get a helmet that I can mount a video camera on it. Blue skies Cat and I am looking forward to your next video.
Hey Catherine, I'm not sure what the regulations are for you over there in Canada, but here in the UK students are not allowed to wear fullface helmets until they have their B licence. There is also a minimum of 50 jumps with a few other requirements in order to obtain the B licence. Good advice though and as always will pass this info along. blue skies Mark "Diesel" Turner
Why is skydiving gear so expensive? I understand canopy's and containers, because of all the testing and high standards for safety and quality, but I'm looking at digital altimeters, and they're like $300-$400? Helmets being around the same price. Jumpsuits around $400-600. What's the deal?
I hear you. I think the fact that we are a small community do not create volume advantages for the manufacturers. Over time, those price points also became kind of the norm I guess. There is always the used gear option as well. ;)
Want your own Skydiver Kit at a nice discount? E-mail me at skydive.vibes@gmail.com and I'll get you access to it! The original promotion ended on April 30th, 2019.
Any chance that discount can be extended?? I just started skydiving, got my A license last week, and then discovered your page just a day late for the deal 😅 I got the chance to borrow a digital altimeter and it helped so much with nailing the landing pattern. These cheap goggles over my eyeglasses have gotten old in a hurry too!
Does the B licence correspond to a specific number of jumps in Canada? I'm asking because in France, where I mainly jump, the B licence is usually validated with 30 jumps and the canopy downsizing is strictly controlled until you get 2000 jumps... Therefore, the advice I received was to wait at least 100 jumps and having a canopy size under 200 ft² before to buy your own rig and it would be better if your rig can accept a smaller canopy.
Our B license is around 50 jumps. And yeah the advice of waiting until you have a smaller canopy is a good one but don't force yourself to downsize too fast in order to get one. ;)
I wouldn't be allowed to downsize anyway... The current regulation applies a certain coefficient to your weight to estimate your canopy size. Until 100 jumps, the coefficient is 2,8. I'm a rather heavy guy, 85kg, meaning my canopy size until 100 jumps is 85 x 2,8 = 238 ft². You can pretty much sail a boat with that!
400.00 seems like a big investment for a helmet until you smell the rentals. People sweat when they work in the tunnel or look out of a plane they plane on exiting without saying bye to a stewardess.
Skydive Vibes I haven't even gone through coarse to become skydiver I will in a few months but I do want to buy gear and have ready when I do become solo skydiver
@@adarbrizo1440 Well as I said in the video. You are better to wait until you get your B license, so about 50 jumps before getting your skydiving rig. ;) Start your course and then you'll see for the gear. Keep your money to jump. ;)
@@adarbrizo1440 Exactly what she said. Also, there are so many canopies and containers and combinations, something that you might like might not be suitable for beginners. Or, you'll get something you don't like because you don't know about the brands. Start skydiving first, then talk to your dz staff about whatever gear you're looking at, and they can help you find something that's best for you. Good luck!
Hey I am only 16 but I did my frist tandam jump in Feb 13 this year and I was wondering what is the the age bracket that would be a good Idea to do my AFF cause
Well, depends on your personality :) i started in the age of 17 but then paused after 1 year (due to Money issues, girlfriend, other interests and so on... ). But i get back in the age of 23 :) so, if you feel good to do it (and have some savings left ;p) start it :D there is no recommendable age to start i guess.
Yeah I've learned that this sport is not cheap and as I am single and about to leave school and go to college and get a side job. I just didn't really know what to do BC I want to get into as I enjoyed my frist jump so much
Hey Ross. Usually, you need to be of legal age. Then, I would say, if you have the money, go for it! Through your AFF, you'll be able to know if you like this sport. ;)
Hi, thanks for the help and going through all the gear needed. I am thinking to get into skydiving, was it easy from the first jump? I wanted to do it but I hate heights lol. so, is it worth all that? other question, what is the cost of jumping with renting gears Vs. your own gears? thanks and keep it up
I got two words for you, "Tandem jump". The cost includes everything you need. The tandem instructor does the technical work of deploying and controlling the canopy and handles the landing. I just did my 4th tandem jump and am seriously considering starting the less program to get my A class license.
