I just took a refresher lesson after 11 years of not driving and the instructor told me I'd fail a driving test because I wasn't checking the rear view mirror every 7 seconds, even though I was doing all the correct checks when I needed to and the rest of my driving was perfect. The second half of the lesson felt far more unsafe because I had to keep taking my eyes off the road to check what was behind me, so I'm glad that you also think this is unsafe. I'm so thankful for your videos and I feel they've given me a serious boost in cofidence when it comes to making sure I'm driving safely.
Passed my driving test this morning. No driving instructor availed aside from 2hr mock test. Just pure conquer driving channel learning since day one of my driving in UK.
I passed today first time with 6 minors!! Thank you so much for all your help on these videos. They were soo helpful, and I would recommend any people learning to study these videos in between lessons :D
This video couldn't have come at any better time. I'm on my 5th driving lesson, and I'm starting to feel comfortable behind the wheel now, but one thing I notice that I fail to do is repeatedly check my mirrors under certain circumstances. I have been watching all your previous videos as well, and I couldn't thank you enough for your efforts!
I know right! For me, it is signalling and checking mirrors at the same time on a roundabout while also trying to keep my steering right so I don't crash on to other cars on the roundabout i get it bro lmao
Hi Richard, my heartfelt gratitude for these incredible videos, you made an invaluable impact with the insights and value you deliver through these videos. I passed my driving test today with 3 minors, but your instruction are always there in my mind and heart for being a sensible driver on the road to ensure everyone reaches home safely to their loved one!! Thank you once again for being such a legend!!
Just wanna say while i was practicing my driving today with my husband, i saw you driving along old heath road, i screamed and told my husband thats him thats him! 🤣 its like i saw a celebrity 😆
Ok, telling people WHY they need to check their mirrors is one surefire way to make them learn to do it and *remember* to keep doing it quickly. I think that some instructors may suffer from the curse of knowledge; after all it is obvious why you need to check your mirrors once you actually know the reason. And when you know why, you will never be confused as to *which* ones to check, right? Also, one thing that I realised - having learned the theory and passing the theory test does not automatically translate to *applying* the theory. Especially the part about checking that no one is overtaking you - the rules explain extensively how to overtake, but do not even peep about how to be overtaken. Or when you must check that you are not being overtaken. Anyway, you are doing God's work here mate, bless you for existing.
I wish you good luck. My test is on January 26th at 8:10am... quick question: do you think that's an ok time to do it? as I'm worried about the morning rush hour. And I've been in the passenger seat of plenty LOL
@@georgecole9190 I'm sure you'll do great. My first lesson isn't until next year, but I just like watching driving videos so I have good background knowledge and don't waste time in my lessons.
3:00 I agree with you, I personally found I didn’t really pay attention to what was in the mirrors when I checked just as long as I looked at them all. I didn’t really take what was there in. Very helpful again :)
Watched every single video of yours to help with my driving test which was 2 days ago and I passed!! Thankyou so much ur videos are great for learners 😄
Hi Richard, thanks to your videos I recently just passed my driving test, I really appreciate you putting in the time and effort to making these videos. But since passing I’m not going to be the perfect driver I was wondering if you would make a video on topics like petrol station positioning, what I need to know about petrol, things that you don’t necessarily go through with your instructor, also what I need to know about black boxes and first cars 🙏🏻
Passed my driving test this afternoon with 4 minors. Thanks to my instructor, but also yourself for these informative supplemental videos! For free aswell! Brilliant , thank you 👏 👏
Righhhhtttt! I need to let you know, that because of your videos, the main ones being Roundabouts, when to check your mirrors, clutch control, reverse and forward bay parking, I passed my test today First attempt with 2 minors. I know you probably get this all the time, but I can't thankyou enough, infact, if I lived close to you, I'd be running up the street, arms open and my little blue certificate to give you a massive squeeze. Thankyou for everything you've done in these videos, it's because of you, I had an excellent drive today! 🎊🎉
@@ConquerDriving thankyou! I recommended your channel to the DVSA survey, they asked if there was any material used to help, I put " RU-vid, conquer driving, time well spent!" End of! 😂🎉
Just wanted to say thank you for helping me pass my test! I passed this morning with 2 minors! My top tip: If you make a mistake during your test, accept that you cannot go back in time and fix it, forget about it and focus on your driving. I thought that I had failed within the first 5 mins, I accepted that I had failed and treated the rest of the test as just another bit of driving practice, I was in shock to hear that I had passed! It's really not as bad as I thought. You've got this! - Please ask me anything
@@louischapman1209 I couldn't sleep for a second last night! I was ridiculously nervous even the entire day before! You're going to smash it, have the mindset that you're going to pass.
@@fxh1343 Hi!, The examiner asked me to pull over on the right and reverse the length of two car lengths, I couldn't find an appropriate place to pull over, so I just kept driving slowly to find one, but before I knew it we were at a T junction. She told me just to keep going, we re-visited it about 10 mins later, and I was able to find a spot much easier. I believe it was only put down as a minor fault for planning.
Awesome and very informative videos @Richard. Thanks a lot for making these, it helped me pass the test. Having migrated to UK in my 30s and having so much experience in driving, I was in a very tight situation when I failed the test due to mirror checks. I wanted a mock test but since I didn't want to take any driving lessons, no instructors were ready to give just a mock test. My 1 year with international license was getting over and I wanted to pass. That's how I started seeing your videos and I should say it enabled me to understand whole logic behind when and what mirrors to check. I passed my test with just 2minors that too not related to observations. Kudos mate. Cheers :-)
Conquer Driving School (RU-vid), made came in handy for me after failing 3 times. I now know how to position my car in the middle of the lane and many more...
Hi, you really help people who want to driver better. However, as new driver i have problem when i driving in sunny and snow days. I use sunglasses but i do not feel myself comfortable and the combination of sun and snow make me really blind. I hope you prepare a video about this as well. you are great guy. thanks man
I passed about six years ago but I'm always looking for ways to improve my driving and have found your videos invaluable for refreshers and tips I may have missed, thank you so much!
i failed for move off safety when i did my checks properly and the examiner said i did not check the blind spot. funny enough there was no hazard any safety issue cuz i saw everything but the examiner was convinced that I did not check my blind spot. it's funny tho. I wish we can have DVSA installed camera in test vehicle before the start of the test so as to reevaluate some tests.
Hey! I got my driver's license yesterday and I believe you've been great help in getting it although you are thousands of miles away from me, thanks to your great videos. Keep it up sir :)
Just an point made for the “I have never had a student marked down for braking gently without checking mirrors” I took my test today and failed because I wasn’t doing this I know it’s examiner dependent but still I’d always check mirrors from now on if I was touching that brake pedal as some examiners can be much harder on mirror checks when braking
Passed yesterday! One cheeky minor. Was nervous but held it together. Your videos have been very helpful keep up the great work ! Good luck to everyone whatever stage your at. You will get there.
I've been taking lessons for a little over a year. Got my test coming up in late October. So only got 6-7 lessons left and today my instructor mentioned that everything is fine in my driving except checked for mirrors. I've been doing it with my eyes for the most part and not really moving my head. Frankly I'm a bit pissed off with him. If I needed to demonstrate that I'm checking mirrors quite obviously to the examiner then why hasn't be brought this up sooner... I've only got a few weeks to train my brain into the new pattern. It's not a big deal and I'm sure it will be fine. But man your videos have been an absolute must. I swear I've learnt more watching these
On my 10th driving lesson I had a replacement instructor because my usual one couldn't make it that day. He told me to check my mirrors every few seconds, I said to myself, 'man, can I just focus on the road please, I already know no one's trying to overtake me, and I'm driving consistently 5 to 7km bellow the speed limit.' Later he told me that I should "make it obvious" that I have seen pedestrians that are getting close to a zebra crossing, or just any crossing in general by moving my head slightly or moderately in the direction of said pedestrian, because apparently, the examiner will pay attention if I do that. And that, just, infuriated me, I can SEE the pedestrians by just moving my eyes to them for a second, or even a split second, heck, I can even see them in my peripheral vision. To end my little rant, I want to thank you for these videos, they reassured me and learned me some things that I will put into practice when I get back into driving, keep up the amazing work!
I dont know who you are but it's because of you that I passed my test at the age of 36. I ignored all other things and just stuck to what you have explained here and i was fine. Constant pointless juggling of eyes from mirror to mirror makes it even harder to keep track of road signs and speed and many other things which could result in fail. All they want is you to drive "safely and legally" like you explain all the time. It's a small point but I feel this is what guides you on road and help you pass your test. I can't thank you Enough. May God bless you brother :)
Hi, so the the correct instances youneed to check your mirrors and blind spots are: When signaling check centre mirror and the mirror of the direction you are signaling, no blind spot checks When changing position check centre mirror and the mirror of the direction you are positioning too, no blind spot checks When slowing down check centre only When speeding check centre and right mirror, no blind spot checks When doing a manovers check both blind spots and all mirrors When pulling off from side of the road check both blind spots and all mirrors When at traffic lights check all mirrors but no need to check blind spots When changing lanes check the mirror of the direction you are changing lane to no blind spot checks Thank you
At a 30 or 40 mph road if I’m changing my direction ever slightly within my lane. I don’t feel it necessary or safe to check my wing mirrors. Especially when I’m maintaining speed limits. I’m not sure why that tradeoff is marked. If any idiot is passing me they are anyway breaking speed limit. One could argue that you could make decisions but then people in this country are not ready for dynamic driving. I either have to save myself causing danger to others or the crash happens. I would rather not cause the first.
Here after failed twice for use of mirrors only, one at a roundabout which is dangerous fault and second one try to overtake a packed lorry unfortunately a silver car is try to overtake aswell and I check my right mirror only which make me think the car is not too closer and was a serious fault, which I realised I was here, feeling very bad for having failed for the same fault twice and that too 13days apart ☹️😔
Another great video. My test is tomorrow morning. I think I'm ok for mirror checks. I make a silly mistake periodically but I've never driven in this country before and for 29 years. Wish me luck. I'm trying to be calm as it's my first attempt but it's easier said than done.
this is the first online resource i’ve found that actually explains what you’re looking for in the mirrors!!! i’ve been struggling with when to check them because it seemed so arbitrary to me unless i was checking the rear view mirror for someone overtaking. this is so helpful and i’m sure i’ll be better at checking mirrors now that i know what i’m actually looking for! thanks so much!
Couldn't agree more. Been learning to drive for several years on and off with covid and money getting in the way so had different instructors all have them have told me to check mirrors and no one has told me what it is I am looking for when I do. When you know what and why then you are more likely to do it as part of safe driving instead of doing it but not really seeing whats there.
I just to say a massive thank you for your videos I watched them everyday leading up to my test yesterday and they helped me so much I passed with 2 minors Thanks again 👍🏻
I was taught 'MSM' Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre. I've been driving for almost 50 years and recently I forgot to do this as I pulled back into the left hand lane behind a lorry due to a speed reduction thinking, but not checking, that the lane was clear. There was a BMW coming up behind me on my left hand side. The driver hooted and instinctively I moved back to the right hand lane. Fortunately nothing worse happened. I waved 'sorry' to that car. Maybe that BMW should not have been overtaking on my inside but it was my fault, I should have known it was there. You can learn from these videos even after passing your test and being an experienced driver who has never had any points on their licence.
Supervisor will be worried for his safety if a learner follows 10 sec rule like you did😁 Jokes aside, it was another informative video. I've learnt a lot from you. I've a question: I can shift 3rd & 4th gear smoothly when car is standstill with or without engine running. But when driving 3rd & 4th gear feels not that smooth to slot in. Btw they should be easiest to slot them in. Car has only got 2000miles on ODO. What could be the reason. It doesn't have any leaks.
Really helpful as I am a PDI at the moment and you summarize this well. There is one small point I would prefer and that is to do with lane changes as although you are just dealing with mirrors, I think it is worth mentioning the blind spot check as well. Although we should all be checking in advance, occasionally attention slips and I personally prefer to always check this to be on the safe side.
They prefer you to check centre mirror first then the relevant side mirror. The centre mirror gives you a true view of distance, the side mirrors make things look further away.
Thanks for this video, I failed one test due to over checking mirrors as suggested by my instructor, over checking mirrors can reduce the focus in the front and can cause bigger problems. I suggest instructors to please don't suggest unpractical things in the driving, which cause more problems than solving
A quick sideways glance will usually suffice, depends on however big you feel there blind spot is and that depends on how many lanes there are: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A0jG8yLa3fI.html
Thank you so much for your help, your videos are really so helpful 🌹🌹🌹 I just passed my test now 💪💪💪 I been watching your videos for good time and it’s really clear and helpful, thanksssssssssss again
