Personally I’d say tri tip is generally worse then needletick on Rex due to his low proc coefficient Also it’s worth mentioning if you think your build won’t benefit much from bleed or collapse, (for example on loader) it can be beneficial to leave needletick behind so you can still scrap any tri tip you find
One good thing to note! Since proc coefficient of specific attacks affects not just the chance to proc but ALSO the *duration* of status effects, some survivors with high attack speed might still want to stick with needletick. Commando (whose double tap has proc coefficient of 1.0) has the base 3 second duration of bleed, meaning that even if he has a smaller chance to apply bleed, he still has a higher window to apply it. Meanwhile MUL-T (with proc coefficient of 0.6 on nailgun) might be shooting ever so slightly faster than Commando, but its bleed will be applied not only with a smaller chance, but also with a lower window to apply it (roughly 1.8 seconds), which is made even more troublesome considering that MUL-T's nail gun has a rather low effective range due to bullet spread.
Assuming all shots land, mul-t's nailgun still has a 72% probability of inflicting another bleed proc (with just 1 nailgun, so not using the alt R) during those 1.8 seconds at base attack speed, as it fires twice as fast as commando, if we use 2 nailguns at the same time, the probability goes up to 92% instead. Keep in mind this is without fire-rate boosts and with a single dagger, meaning it can get much better. I'd argue the biggest drawback is that you have to focus fire on a single enemy for bleed to actually do something, otherwise you're only going to see 140% base damage instead of the 240% it does on a proc coefficient of 1. But for something like mithrix and voidling, which you will always be focusing on, bleed is still one of the best ways to inflict damage.
@@DESARD12 That's true but that's also assuming that all nails hit, and for that you need to be very close to enemies. For MUL-T it's not really a problem in earlygame because of the sheer amount of hp and armor, but for Mithrix or generally in lategame you WANT to keep your distance most of the time at least a little bit, which means you'll be proccing less due to the limited amount of nails hitting.
@@MatoMeatball While true that you do in fact tend to stay away much more in the mid-late game, that is also where you'll have at least some amount of fire-rate bonus, be it mocha's, syringes or predatory instincts, considerably upping the amount of hits done. Not to mention the fact that commando also has decreased accuracy the longer he fires, it is not as bad as mul-t's, but it is there. And, if you're willing to risk yourself a bit more, you can put yourself closer to the enemy to increase DPS (as you honestly should with mul-t as his damage potential falls off a roof due to the accuracy decrease), that is to say, the playstyle the nail gun offers is one where you HAVE to risk yourself to be most effective. Point being, dagger isn't inherently worse on mul-t (aside from the obvious reduced chance and damage output from single proc) because the playstyle it requires from you is the same any other item will. There is more to discuss of course, but that's my 2 cents.
And now with SotS, Boomerang brings insane stacks of bleed in a blink. Dunno if intended or bugged, but super powerful. When topped with saw, it shreads!
Thanks for the mnemonics gamer. I feel like I normally pick tri tip 4/5 times over tick as fast fire rate and or clover bangs on pretty much all the characters i play
Its not survivor specific. Its the choice between a fire-and-forget playstyle or massive single target focused damage. I prefer Needletick over Tip on Huntress because she's good in that initial playstyle. In fact, I've been really downplaying Needletick on Commando even though recent E8 runs have proven to me that Needletick is actually freaking awesome on Commando (granted, those were runs where didn't have much speed and/or defensive items though, but its exactly those kind of runs where Needletick shines) But what I like mostly about Needletick is that, in terms of void items, its basically the closest thing to a sidegrade to the original there is. Even if your run/build would have benefitted more from the dagger, its not necessarily a problem that you took needletick instead because it will still carry (just not as hard). The same cannot be said about most other void items.
what about merc? I was hoping he’d be mentioned because I feel like there is an argument for either one, maybe bleed with his default ult and needletick for his ranged ult
@@redwed6Ye, I think it was .75, and Captain runs generally should get attack speed buffs, so tri-tip (imo) is better than needle tick on our favorite Cptn
