When To Plant Potatoes In NE Florida 

Also, my observation is that there are a lot of ppl in these comment’s complaining about what JimBob does or doesn’t say…instead why don’t y’all just give it a try? Rather than bitchin, get to ditchin’ and planting, take off your shoes and socks and put them toes in the earth and finger nails in the dirt and do it. Watch a video, go outside, do what you watched, wait to see what happens. That’s how you learn what works and what doesn’t. Failures are valuable lessons. I love you all.

im in NC Fl west coast, zone 9a. February was WAY too hot this year :( Its usually our coldest month and we only had short night freezes in January. I planted mine January 28th this year, they all came up and grew to beautiful plants. i had 17. I have 4 - 4x8 beds inside my screened greenhouse that I can pull plastic over and clamp down when needed. I am not growing in FL soil! I have 1/2" wire mesh covered with cardboard then some straw then tons of good dirt. Planted tomatoes in this bed last year and potatoes in bags (got 2 potatoes out of the 9 bags last year 😢 got too hot). so this year they went inside the greenhouse. they were beautiful through April 1st then started to thin and die off. Forgot to mention, once dirt hilling was done a total of 1 foot tall we put straw. Anyway We got very little potatoes again. again, March got too hot (still unusually warm). Im thinking of planting in october or November this next and last time if they're another fail. I can cover and keep them warm if needed. What do you think?

So you buy grocery store potatoes and plant them without eyes/chits on them? Any worry of blight? I just planted store bought fingerlings yesterday without eyes. Should I dig them up and wait until Jan? I live in Jacksonville. TY!

What is the latest date in Florida for spring planting ? Did the peelings that sprouted have eyes but no sprouting? Should potatoes be forced to sprout prior to planting? Thank you

any fertilizer needed?

Just a thought on the “growth inhibitor”, would the potato not grow sprouts at the eyes were it sprayed? I got a bag as well from a buddy that was sprouted big time after a year in his pantry. Seems unlikely based on that alone to think there’d be some “growth inhibiting chemical”. Just my 2 cents. =)

I'm grown potatoes in June July I know it's hot but I've put them in raised boxes with black soil some of them have rooted some of them have rotted and the ground and the stocks have rotted is that too much water?

Why can't I plant them in August in a container?
