I am 100% willing to help you out with your pedal issue Rhett. I will graciously take any and all pedals you don’t want anymore. It’ll be rough for me ya know finding a spot to put it in my home but, for you, I can do that. 😂😂

I regretted selling my first guitar, a black 1989 Fender HM Strat, in like 1999 because they weren’t “cool” anymore and I was young and stupid. But I fixed that 20-year long regret recently when I got another one in way better shape than mine was when I sold it (like mint but one dent).

I got my second shot this upcoming Thursday, felt kinda sick the day after my first one, the worst out of my family/friends of course (Here in Canada we are finally just starting 2nd doses so we are behind you guys). Wish me luck for how I feel with my second lol. Some how skipped this episode of the pod and just got back to it, great episode as always guys!

I usually move gear for the reasons Zach might, but I also gravitate towards gear more in the Rhett camp. Also Reverb is fast becoming the “list high here” place, but take offers...elsewhere. 😉 - use their eyes they provide, but tiptoe around a bit.

Have an issue with a cheap, but nice acoustic guitar. It plays fine, but the pickup system isn't working at the moment. I'm thinking about selling it. What should I do with it: - Go to a tech and see if the current pickup can be fixed? - Buy a replacement pickup system?

Silk and Steel are suggested to use on a lot of 12 string acoustics as they also have less tension.

Phil McKnight has a thing with his friends (which I have had the same kinda thing with my friends) where if you buy something from them and sometime down the line want to sell it, you have to offer it to the person you bought if from first, "Right of first refusal". It always sucks when you were in desperate need of $ and you sell something to a friend and then you find out they flipped it immediately for $$$, and they could have aimed you at the person. Hell, I'd have gladly given that person a cut as a finders fee.

I love the idea of a big neck profile. But I came to realise thickness makes little difference to me when playing, while the shape of the shoulder was more important. Weight is an issue only because my back is done from thirty years of a Fender twin. Otherwise I aspire to a one guitar philosophy, but enjoy the different feel and sounds of different electrics. In terms of tone my big lesson over thirty years is get the amp right first, then see what it does for your guitars.

I always start my listing from scratch on reverb. I look at the selling prices of the same item. I price low on the scale and show lots of photos. Things sell quickly for me.

Rhett- I can't remember which video or podcast you said you were using 9's on all your guitars except the Serus J probably based on the string angle at the bridge. I switched to 9's on my Serus J and added a Buzz Stop made for Jazzmasters or Jaguars and it greatly increases the angle of the strings making 9's work and stay in tune. Maybe you already considered this, but adding the Buzz Stop does not drill any new holes or anything and the 9's stay in tune.

It's pretty interesting hearing the different perspectives on selling / buying used gear. I'm from Canada and it's quite a bit different up here. I would say about 95% of the time people will give you their home address to come and check out the gear. The price haggling usually happens before you even check out the gear so when you meet up it's just a straight up exchange of the gear for the money at the previously agreed to price. Obviously if you show up and the item isn't as it was advertised then there is room for negotiation but most of the time that's not the case. The recent trend for selling gear (especially smaller items like pedals) because of the pandemic is porch pickup. Essentially the seller leaves the pedal in their mailbox, the buyer shows up at the agreed time, takes the pedal and leaves the agreed amount of money. I've done this several times with no issues. Never talked to the buyer in person, only through the buying/selling platform. Anyways, another great episode from you guys. Thanks again.

The only piece of gear I semi-regret selling was my 2005 Mexican Strat with a satin finished body and all black plastic parts. I mostly miss the satin body, in midnight wine, whilst the rest of the guitar was so so. I installed different pickups but the neck had worn down vintage style frets, which I don't like, so I still sounded thin. I know satin Strats are available so that could be a future purpose

It would be great if you could discuss playing with an injured or handicapped fretting hand/wrist. I'm recovering from wrist surgery 3 months ago and going forward, will likely try to minimise bar chords. If you could touch on your experiences, or provide any tips to minimise wrist stress that would be great. Thanks for the podcast.

I've sold a gibson V, an epiphone lp and an acoustic. Regretted all but the acoustic and really sold them at a fair/cheaper price than normal. I kind of decided I'm not buying anything I can't see myself keeping and using now. I miss my V so much

Ugh, what a perfect episode as I wrestle with selling a Reverend Manta Ray, just threw new pickups in it to try and breathe new life into it only a couple months ago. But it's still not vibing how I want, should I try another swap is what I keep telling myself, or just move it and get something better suited for me.

Local face to face sale trumps online for me. I have met some cool people. Way less painful than risk involved in getting scammed or shipping hassle catastrophe. If in a small town, though, you gotta be really really patient and the market is simply smaller. I had a Les Paul for sale that took forever to sell even at a great price. A beauty Les Paul??? But it happens. Having said all of that . . . sometimes though . . . if the piece is really unique and you need a wider audience. I had a funky vintage Westone Concord III in sparkle red . . . no one local knew what it was. Had to put it on eBay where a collector of funky vintage Japanese happily grabbed it.

I recently sold a guitar via consignment with a local shop that I like. Their commission was huge but it sold for over $1k and it was nice to be able to support the shop during COVID. To Rhett's point, it was great not to have to deal with ANYTHING. I just agreed to a minimum price with the shop then got a check a few months later. I also have a buddy who seems to get a new guitar every other week and loves being active on Reverb. He's always turning gear and seems to always have a fresh story about a headache with a buyer or seller. He enjoys it though. Good for him, it's just not for me.

I recently sold a Mexican standard tele, and an LPJ, and picked up a 50's roadworn tele. I've had the tele a couple days, and I'm so far quite happy that I did it 👍🏼 Didn't hurt that I miraculously made money on both sales, cause the used market is on FIRE right now... haha
