When to use a two speed reel 

Thank you. Hopefully your tips will come in handy. Just ordered my first 2 speed waiting for it to arrive next week. Torque II 60. 3 day out of Point Loma at the end of the month. UPDATE: I landed a 177lbs BFT on my 3 day trip with my new rod n reel. FYI, I only used high gear about 10% of the time. He got tail wrapped so I spent 45 minutes winding in 400 yds of line 1-2 low speed turns at a time. Epic trip.

We need more folks like you sharing the knowledge .. may be I’m the only one new go fishing I feel there’s too much secret keeping … thanks again..

I like to use the low gear bottom fishing for Grouper and Yellowtail. It helps keep the fish out the rocks when they head for the bottom after hookup. Once I think they are away from the bottom I'll shift into high gear and then like Dan says use the low gear again once they are under the boat and need wenching up.

From the UK we don't need two speed reels but we can get them always wandered when would you use it! Thanks for the info!

Personally, I enjoy using a 2 speed reel when I go out on the 3/4 day boats, if you are fishing in 300 feet of depth, it's exhausting, I use it every time I hook on to a fish. I am not going to use it just to rebate but whenever the fish is on the hook or doubles, it is very nice to have. You don't technically need it but's you will not regret having it.
