If you want to put back the car from low range to high range , do you need to put neutral again

So Low range button option is for tough terrain Or off road High range option button Is for street paved driving Am i right ?
@that.schamp
@that.schamp 3 года назад
Not completely. 2H is for normal street paved. 4H is for snow, gravel, Texas rain, or other conditions with limited traction. 4L is for rock crawling, steep off-road inclines (up or down), deep mud, pulling stumps, or other extreme off-road conditions. For 2 wheel drive vs 4 wheel drive, the key thing to remember is that it needs to be slippery to use 4 wheel drive. When you turn, your front wheels and rear wheels travel different distances, so the wheels need to turn at different speeds. In a 4x4 in 4H or 4L, the front and rear axles are locked together. So if you use 4 wheel drive in conditions that are not slippery, you can cause excess wear or even damage the transmission. On gravel roads, snow, or icy conditions, I will use 4H. On pavement in heavy rain, I will drive down the road in 4H, but if I need to make a sharp turn, will take it slow in 2H. In low gear - 4L or 2L (uncommon now, but some trucks have 2L available) - the gearing is much lower than the high gears. It's like your gears change from 1 - 6 to 0.1 - 0.6. So you get lots of torque, finer control over your speed, and more engine braking - but need to keep it very slow, or you can damage the engine or transmission.

Without being an ass hole like the previous bloke... it is a cordless tire pump, but can also deflate ^_^ plenty of different brands!

The Landcruiser is so old fashioned. Select terrain response to the surface you are driving on and let the car do the rest. ( our just push a button and engage low range at speed up to 30 mph.

I am still trying to locate 2H gear on my Prado. Where is it? He keeps on telling us driving the Prado. If anyone has an answer how to switch to 2H on the Prado, please let me know.

Its on the bottom of your central panel, somewhere around the central cup holder.

If u have an older model prado, the 4 wheel drive is in a stick shift sort of shape, on the top left of the gear box

Prados are AWD most of the time. They won't have a 2H. It's just 4H and 4L. He does mention that in the video and if you look at the selector switch, it'll only have those two options.

Someone please help me here. - I keep hearing the same phrase over and over and over, and it's driving me crazy. "When you go into 4-low, the truck slips into a lower range of gears". - This doesn't make sense to me. I'll use my truck for an example but the logic works on anything. I have an 8 speed transmission. If I'm in 4-high and driving along slowly, the truck will stay in 1st gear, it's lowest gear.... If I'm in 4-low and slowly driving along, the truck will stay in 1st gear, it's lowest gear... The diff's gearing can't change (at least I don't think it does...). So therefore nothing changes. They SHOULD logically be the same. - But it clearly isn't... I feel the truck do something when I put it into 4-low. The feel of the truck COMPLETELY changes. It drives differently. Everything changes..... - but I can not for the life of me understand why this is. I only have 8 gears to choose from right? What is changing?
@arefeshghi
@arefeshghi 5 лет назад
Based on my understanding, when you put your car in low range, you are using different gear ratios. I.e, you are in fact using different gears than those 8 gears you mentioned. Your car's transfer case includes more than those 8 gears you know of. Check it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transfer_case
@DENMONKEY

Like aref said below, there is some additional gearing in the transfer case on a 4wd. It is the third that changes when you move to 4l this changing the ratio of your normal gears when in this position. Kinda like a push bike. The transfer case is like changingyour front gears, as you still use the same gears on the back. Hope that makes sense
@lamperist
@lamperist 5 лет назад
Here's the simplest way to explain it to you the transmission gear stay the same the transfer case has a high speed gear ratio and a very low speed gear ratio like a tractor so that's what happens when you're in low you're transferring transfer case is now geared down so you go through all your 8 years but you're doing them at a much lower gear ratio in the transfer case
@KR7PT
@KR7PT 4 года назад
To put it really simply, low range revs your engine higher at lower speeds, which gives you much more torque for the same grip that your tyres give you. You'd know that high torque allows your engine to pull more weight, so keeping the vehicle weight the same but increasing torque means it'll pull itself much more easily on extreme angles like rocks, steep inclines, etc.
@7150285
@7150285 4 года назад
Paul Anderson just think of this. A transfer case is like a secondary transmission. With high and low range. With in Low range gear reduction happens. I hope this helps you grasp the idea.
