Ceri Berry Skylines are good cars but aren't anything special. In the world of JDM, it doesn't matter which car is better, it is the amount of money someone dumps into it. In this video you can't really say for sure what happened but a civic beating a skyline shouldn't be a surprise when there are videos of civics beating Lamborghinis with millions of views.
The Honda did a ricer flyby, skyline took off after the Honda already passed him and actually closed the gap... Then we panned over to the speedo, then back again as the skyline had to merge to avoid rearending a car.
Plot synopsis: GTR cruising along the road, honda starts slowly gaining ground on him. Honda engages VTEC and is suddenly getting much louder yet still slowly passing the GTR cruising along. Honda passes GTR and is apparently putting distance on the GTR. The GTR notices the the Honda is trying to race and so he gets into it. Distance suddenly stops increasing as the GTR is getting ready for a turbo spool and put this game to bed. Suddenly the GTR sees a car coming right for him up ahead as he is in the incoming lane. The GTR gets behind the Honda. Honda fan boys point the camera behind in delight as they are in pure joy being ahead of the GTR for a few moments. As they pass the vehicle, they get the fuck out of the way cuz TURBOS HAVE BEEN ACTIVATED. GTR Flies the fuck by while the Honda backs the fuck out. End of story
Lol the Honda even had a set of wheels and a second guy in the car and he was still dusting the gtr. People just hate to admit that a honda passed him up.
Racing jokes aside, that motor sounds amazing. When the VTEC actually hit, that slight tone difference sounds so good. Who cares he’s not that fast, still sounds good 🤷🏻♂️
@@kyledodson2992wanna know something funny? what you dislike about this sound can apply to almost any gas engine on earth! F1 sounds like they twice as fast as they actually going! Same for ferraris, V8. But since hondas are known for their driving pleasure while having 100hp its easy to bash on them. Same for ferrari with screaming v8s that does 200hp.
@@nxxxxxsaw the lawnmower enthusiasts got triggered thats so cute. hondas are the biggest joke in the car world 😂 i literally have respect for every other car brand except those pieces of crap. JDM, muscle, exotic i can see the good in them all. but honda, nobody likes them 😂 cry more
“Skyline didn’t know they were racing”.... my guys. They literally waved and were speeding dangerously fast. I’m pretty sure both parties knew they were racing.
Everyone saying "Did the GT-R even know they were racing?" The Honda was doing 200km/h at least and the GT-R was slightly behind him, I think the GT-R knew
What most people don’t realize is skylines aren’t that fast. They’re relatively quick compared to regular traffic but that’s it. They have a ton of potential and are overbuilt but they’re no drag monster out of the box.
No doubt, because of the gentleman's agreement many years ago. However a gtr will murder any vtec stock for stock in its era. Add a little boost to the gtr and give it a tune, the Honda is not gonna keep up unless built nicely. The Rb and 2j are both built to be tuned.
@@leetpgstock for stock the Honda is probably faster sub 80mph. The car in this video looks like an R33 GTS25T which only made 187hp and is 3,300 pounds. The 97 civic type R made 182hp and was only 2,300 pounds. The civic in theory would be faster until they were going fast enough that air resistance was a major factor. Then the torque in the skyline would allow it to counter the air resistance better. Gotta remember most skylines aren’t GT-R’s
I think this comment is negating the fact that the twin turbo RB beast still shook the whole world of sports cars during it's time. It is no slouch, Miata.
Yessir!!! There's A LOT of power in that little 1.6! People don't realize it, but those little engines have very high output to be such a small displacement. They'll run forever as well.
My stock 94 civic has the 1.6 VTEC and I dyno’d it for the fuck of it and it’s advertised as 176 but the dyno said 194 not bad at all for a civic especially for how light they are, I one arm pushed it back because I dropped a 10mm grabbed it and pulled it back to me. It’s stupid light no wonder I get 28mpg in the city and 36 highway.
One time I passed a Civic at around 75mph because he seem to be incapable of driving inside the lanes... (and his speed goes from 55mph to 70mph and breaking for no reason on freeway with no traffic...) And after 30 seconds (maybe a little longer) the civic passed me doing ~75mph at at least 110 then cut 3 lanes to the right to catch his exit scratching the divider... I love ricer flybys. Always bring a good laugh.
No idea why people think a custom junk beating a stock high end car is something great. There are fucking oldsmobile sleeper that does 1/4 miles in 7secs...
I see there are alot of comments like that, I have a feeling many have had the gap from a Civic before and it has destroyed their egos and can't stop watching the fast and furious series. They talk like the skyline is some kind of powerhorse.
The GTR driver is dying from laughter, and you did a pretty much normal overtake like what other drivers do on a highway and I think the GTR isn't even trying
For people who say "That Skyline wasn't even racing" Just wanna say... speed depends on tuning... I'm sure that stock skyline was on it's way to the local shop for tuning parts... lol.
I had a miata do this to me in my c6 corvette at about 70mph on the highway. I never shifted from 6th and still pulled him badly. You needed boost my friend
I really can’t understand people hate Hondas so much, I mean you can enjoy the car way more + you use the full engine’s potential So I really can’t understand why people hate them, I mean if you touch the pedal on a faster car you get a ticket, you really can’t enjoy the car there, while on the civic, you guys know what I mean
People, let's get real about this one... We can all clearly see, that GTR is start to closing in --> 0:42. What some of you don't see, or you've missed, is that the GTR had to slow down and change the lane, because the white car --> 0:48 was in front of him, then you see a GTR behind the Civic, start pushing --> 0:50, and when the Civic run out of speed, he moved to the left lane, and the GTR passes. Bottom line, it doesn't matter if the GTR driver realize, or not, that Civic driver want to race, what matters is that the GTR was faster, but couldn't keep racing, because he had a car in front of him, blocking him and forcing him to let off the throttle... Clear and simple. To all of those who plan to start talking about what I know, and what I don't know... Among other cars I have a 1998 Civic Coupe fully built B16A2, 254whp, not hp. I know exactly, how well tuned vtec engine can go, but I also know how R32, and R33, can pull, and that is not a stock R33. All of you, who think it is, are in big misbelief...
lol, the GTR driver was definitely aware of the race, but he's clearly just gotten the car, you can see the flowers on his bonnet, it's either he's not used to the car yet, or maybe didn't wanna thrash it too hard on it's first trip home.
Actually the reason why skyline changed lane is that the skyline was trying to avoid rear ending a car. That's why it was going a bit slower than Honda.
Everyone in the comments thinking because this guy's driving a Honda he can't be going fast. You can hear the cam changeover is harsh as fuck and you can see his Speedo has gone over the limiter. The Nissan lost.
I had one of the world's first VTEC engined Integra's when I lived in Japan. What a fun car to drive, even though it was FF (Front-wheel drive and front engine car) Right hand drive car brings back memories! However, the camera person could have done a better job, though!
