The kid in the orange shirt that the lady couldn't throw in the fire, was the child from the previous scene, the one who was tested and promised food and toys. The kid was infected. The "medicine" they gave the kid is meant to kill them "humanely". That lady was holding their hand and promising them all that stuff to comfort the kid in their last moments.
i love seeing people who dont know the game react to the show, because i know all the characters and the whole story but i still cry with everything that happens, and anyone who has played the game can say that this show is EXACTLY the same, from the characters to the scenarios. I hope you enjoy this The Last Of Us world as much as i do, and get ready because its gonna be a roller coaster rider!
Girls you're so sweet, if you have problems understanding something, never be afraid to ask. It's normal if you've never played the game to miss some things here and there, but in your discussion at the end you got everything right. They are protecting Ellie because she's the cure and they killed that kid because he was infected. The woman promised him food and toys to sweeten the pill. The actress that played Sarah did such a great job and in the series we can see more of her compared to the game, because they wanted to make her death become more impactful than it already was. Pedro was also amazing in that scene and he's being a great Joel so far. Ellie is also great, even if we got less time with her, but I'm sure we're gonna see more of her in the next episodes. I hope you girls are gonna enjoy the show as much as we enjoyed the game❤️
Ellie was providing a fake name and stuff, also if you don’t notice Ellie can’t get infected since she was bit on her arm and it healed, so they probably kept her in hopes of a cure.
I liked your reaction a lot!! Ellie is infected but she can't turn because she's somehow immune, they don't know yet whether or not she can infect other people but the fungus is spread through biting (and through food I think). In the game it's spread through airborne spores and bites but they changed that for the show, since the actors would have to wear gas masks all the time if it spread through the air
The song you hear is Depechemode. So it's 80's and 80's means trouble. And it's not tommy.. he clearly said that he hasn't had contact in weeks. Those signals are from "bill and frank" most likely as Ellie even referenced.
16:50 I cried at this point like a toddler, even though I saw the scene in the game x times and knew what was happening. My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out.
I liked the reaction girls. Ok, Ellie is immune, not a carrier. She cannot give the fungus to anyone else. With the scan test, she still reads positive for infection because she was infected. Nobody knows why she didn't get sick or change into a "zombie". Ellie was using the fake name "Veronica" because she didn't want the people that had her chained up to know who she really is. Ellie is very much a potty mouth. In the game, I believe it tells u that Marlene (the leader of the Fireflies) was a good friend of Ellie's mom. The child's body that Joel dumped into the fire was the little boy that they tested & gave the shot to. The shot put the little boy to sleep permanently. The signal for the radio that means"trouble" is not the song itself, but the era of the song which is the 80's. The song playing @ the end was an 80's song, so it's indicating there is trouble. If Joel wants to get to Tommy, they r going to have to travel from the state of Massachusetts to the state of Wyoming. Joel kept the watch because it broke @ the time his daughter was killed. Hope I cleared a few things up. I never played the game myself, but have seen some game play & cut scenes from the game.

This series can now be added to the list of great video game adaptations, hope you enjoy the story it definitely has plenty of special moments. They really did a good job of building Sarah up so you actually felt something when she got killed whereas In the game you formed your attachment by playing as Sarah. Fun fact Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker who voiced Ellie and Joel in the game actually play different characters in this series.
They hinted as to how it spread so fast the radio was talking about violate outbreaks in Jakarta and Jakarta is one of the largest importers of wheat and wheat based products so since they didn't eat pancakes the biscuits the cookies or the cake that's why they weren't infected

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE EPISODE. Just answering some of your questions. In the game, Sarah is 12. There are 4 stages of infection. Nana is at stage one (called a 'runner') the Cordyceps is taking over her brain and giving her the imperative to infect others. As you can see, the fungus has also reopened the neural pathways to allow her full movement, if somewhat erratic. I think the planes are actually taking off, trying to get away. As someone else mentioned, the boy in the wheelchair was infected and was basically 'put down' like a vet would do with an animal. Those were Ration Cards Joel was trading with the FEDRA soldier, but yeah, basically currency now. Depending on where you are bitten, it takes between 5 minutes and 24 hours to become a 'runner' like Nana. basically, the closer to the brain, the faster you turn. This first episode is actually episodes 1 & 2. The original episode 1 was supposed to end when Joel dumped the boy's body in the fire. Fun fact: The guy in the radio room with Joel is the voice actor for Tommy in the game. In the conversation between the radio guy and Joel it is mentioned that there are raiders and slavers out there. In the game it is revealed that, in the intervening 20 years, Joel has been on 'both sides'. In context with the point in the game this is revealed it suggests that Joel may have been a raider, if not a slaver. The point being, by 2023, Joel is not a nice man. Fun fact; Joel's watch was broken again during the fall when Sarah died, so every time he looks at it he is reminded of the exact time he lost her. The story of Ellie and Riley begins in the comic 'The Last of Us: American Dreams' and in the DLC 'Left Behind' which will be gone through in a later episode. The corpse on the wall: In the game, when an infected reaches the final stage they release spores when they die and these spores float in the air to infect others, making the carrying of gas masks required. For live action filming, gas masks on your actors aren't ideal so spores were replaced with the fungal tendrils coming from the mouth of an infected 'runner' (first stage infected). As for Tommy's time in Boston; in the game, he originally joined the Fireflies, became disillusioned and then left both the Fireflies and Boston. Ellie's full name is Ellie Williams (btw way, Joel's is Joel Millar); 'Veronica' was a fake name for her captors. Fun fact: Ellie is 14 years old, in the military academy she grew up in, you were inducted into the military at age 15. It wasn't Tommy sending the music; also ANY song from the eighties is the 'trouble' signal, not just 'Wake Me Up'

10/10 Blown away by good this is! I was blown away by how much I enjoyed The Last of Us. It's based off a video game of the same name. It follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Elle (Bella Ramsey) as they have to trek across the country as they try to survive killers and monsters after an outbreak has taken over the world. It's one of the best reviewed shows by both critics and fans alike, it currently has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I know it's early but I'm absolutely hooked. I hate that I have to wait a week between episodes as this is a perfect show to binge. If you're looking for a new show to get into then give this a try, you won't be disappointed. This is definitely going to be HBO's next big hit!
15:50 First of all, every movie has their own version of what zombies are. For example, World War Z vs Walking Dead. How do you know you aren’t infected when you just met a stranger especially when covered in blood? How do they spread the infection? Is the virus only limited to physical contact like bite, scratches or blood? Or is it an airborne virus? No one knows which explains why the soldier is wearing a gas mask to protect himself from any toxic/disease that you may inhale. Chances are that it can incubate in a host without you knowing. You know… delayed reaction & you’re the carrier to spread unto others. There are no vaccines to cure the infection & no detection equipment yet to verify if you’re an infected or not. Especially during the start of the outbreak when no one knows about it in the first place. Why will the soldier shoot civilians without question? For various reasons. In this case, after evaluating the situation. 1. Is the soldier thinking for his safety or for other’s safety? Will you take that chance of leaving them be only to risk spreading to millions? Like save 2 lives only to risk millions. Again, how do you know? Are you a Scientist or Medical Doctor? Not exactly specialized in knowing how they work & certainly not his field of expertise. He said “Sorry” meaning he means it. Why say that after he shot them? Even the tone of his voice is the guilt. Living with that kind of choice is tough. He didn’t ask for this but he made his choice for the greater good aside from just containment orders. For all we know, that soldier might be 18yrs. old minimum. Can’t see clearly but it’s a possibility. That could’ve been a son or father or husband of somebody. 2. Not everyone is truthful. Civilians could be lying just for their own sake & again risk millions of lives. The selfishness of people doing whatever it takes to survive. For example, COVID-19 I heard people avoiding to be detected cuz they know they’re showing symptoms that their positive. Get on a ship or whatever transportation you can find & end up spreading the infection. Coughing, touching, etc. Feel bad knowing that kids end up getting from those kind of people. However, it’s understandable when it comes to your instinct of fear making decisions. Allowing fear to dictate our choices is not always something you realize right away. Imagine you can’t see your family and friends just cuz somebody on board unchecked is on the same boat or airplane with you. Thinking how you got it is sometimes really someone near you that got you into that situation in the first place. Lastly, Quarantine means: (N) - a state, period, or place of isolation in which people or animals that may have been exposed to infectious disease are placed. (V) - place (a person or animal) in quarantine in order to prevent the spread of an infectious disease. - remain apart from others for a period of time in order to prevent the transmission of an infectious disease to which one may have been exposed. My point, it doesn’t mean checking/verifying who’s infected. That’s why the military will not risk anyone escaping the area without first understanding how the virus works. Basically, it’s a different term for prison but it sure acts like one regardless.
As someone who has played the game I think I can confidently say that players are going to be looking for reaction vids by people who know nothing about TLOU. Lol, we want to relive the emotional rollercoaster through your reactions... Does that make us some kind of emotion vampires?

The game is good. They show is racist. They brown and black washed most of the white characters and cast game accurate for all the nonwhite characters.
If you want to have an actual discussion about this, in this random youtube comments section, I’m up for it. Do you really think it’s racist to hire Pedro Pascal to play a fictional CG character instead of a white actor? What about the character of Joel is changed in any way by his race? Why does it matter? They’re all just actors, and they got parts and played them well. Gabriel Luna plays Tommy to a T, but should the casting director have said they couldn’t cast him because he’s not Chilean to match Pedro? Are you really thinking about that while watching the show?
