It’s one of the biggest issues I always had with metal. Metal houses some of the world’s finest guitarists, but I can really only appreciate them in clean tone/minor distortion. That over the top distortion most metal bands have just takes away all the beauty for me. It’s just a garbled mess of notes at that point, but in clean tone they shine!
They just released a live album of their last show and it has an in memorial section in the middle with childhood photos and the sleeves are pix of him and fans
@@Mantorok all you did was say why it's easier with distortion. It ringing louder is quite literally why it's easier, and distortion covers the mistakes. You'll know how to mute a string way before you can shred a solo without distortion
Jazz is pretty varied so there's definitely stuff out there like this, not the kind I typically listen to but something that comes to mind that's worth a listen is Bad Asteroid by The Aristocrats. Might be something you're looking for
I wouldn't classify what he's doing as innovative in terms of jazz. The first thing most jazz musicians do is learn the pentatonic scale which comprises the bulk of his solo. When there are so many interesting new ways to play outside of what you'd expect, and even new ways to play tastier and more "in", I don't think that this is the direction for jazz to go towards. If you listen to jazz guitarists like Kurt Rosenwinkel, Gilad Hekselman, Peter Bernstein, Pat Martino (RIP) etc. you'll hear the many different corners of innovation and experimentation. No hate to this video or this comment, but jazz is going in so many interesting directions and to say that it needs to sound more like this video, a metalhead not really trying to play the jazz language... I don't agree. Elevator music comes from dumbing down generations and generations of musical innovations into something empty enough to be ignored. Even if you were to play the "status quo" of jazz, if you really did your homework, it wouldn't be elevator music, and even if it was it would be so beautiful and interesting that it would be too distracting for an elevator. Check out those guitarists I shared and let me know what you think!
For a second there I wasn’t sure if you meant a song by Every Time I Die called Children of Bodom, or a song called Every Time I Die by Children of Bodom lmao I haven’t listened to CoB in years.
Between Hatebreeder, Follow the Reaper, and Hatecrew Deathroll... I don't know which I like best but these albums are god tier. There's nothing like it and there never will be again. RIP Alexi, you made my whole entire life.
You may be interested in a band called Thank You Scientist, they're a bit more funk-metal but I'm sure Spotify related artists could guide you from there!
@@StevDoesBigJumps it did in a sense. heavy metal evolved from rock which evolved from rock and roll. rock and roll evolved from a mix of blues, country, and rhythm & blues.
Idk what's more impressive. The fact you play these so clean and buttery smooth, or the fact you always have a jazz background that seems to compliment the solo without it sounding weird or off-putting. Edit: was not expecting 1.3k likes 😳 Edit: 5.6k... still haven't gotten this kind of reaction to a comment. Keep it coming, I guess!
Sir, I am begging you to drop a full length version of this. It is VERY stuck in my head. before I go to bed: This video. Before I go to work in the morning: This video. Several random times throughout the day: this video
One of the greatest Alexi Laiho fan right here. Was my dream to watch him live. On the positive side I discovered COB and I’m happy with that. RIP father Alexi. His riffs and solos are the best. And they are countless
Same! They came to India like 10 years ago and I so wanted to go see them live but couldn't because of school and money. Now that I can spare time and money to go see CoB I can't without Alexi.
I'm so glad I recognized that this was a solo from a CoB song lmao, it's definitely one of the older ones since I recognize it but I'm not sure which one... Is it "Everytime I die" ?
I think this is hands down the highlight and best day of your trip! The other things youve done in previous days were awesome but ELEPHANTS!! You can't beat that!! Lol loved love LOVED this episode!!! It makes me so happy that youre enjoying yohr life and that you are happy as well sis! 💕
cant say that sweet little riff didnt give me some supertramp bloody well right vibes. gave me the goosebumps. very nice, talented handsome fella. good job, subbed.
Man you really draw my attention to listen to jazz music. The way you play and mixed jazz music with rock/metal solos are enjoyable. Appreciate what you did. Thanks man. Keep em coming.
Then you should just give jazz an honest chance. This style of solo happens constantly, there's lots of stuff just like this that isn't riffing on a joke.
When I bought the Follow the Reaper album back in 2001 i could not believe my ears. Amazing that something could be so dark and melodic. This was definitely one of my favorite solos. I was not expecting an Alexi tribute. Good job.
That is children of bodom. Duddeeeee...u can't just randomly throw my favourite cob solo like that. I'm actually close to tearing, niceeeeee the start with the slide gave me a strong minor blues vibe that worked out perfectly with the jazz background nice catch theree. Gzz
@@jamierobinson777 i swear on anything, the everytime i die is my most favourite solo of Alexi at some point his guitar makes a high cry that sound super expressive it gives me chills since 2010.
