i would argue that the hardest part about dark souls was everything surrounding the gameplay, i knew literally everything about this game going into it, so even a dumbass like me could defeat asylum demon as soon as i'd figured out how to hold a controller and look around in a game that wasnt skyrim or tf2. if you happen to know exactly what to do and where to be then the game is very manageable, but, had i started playing blindly i would have gotten so severely fucked up that i'd be crying about it to this day

nah, elden ring its waaay easier than dk1, the only reason dks 1 its easy its because you guys abused backstabs and parrys, im shit at timing, so no parry for me usually, and i dont like backstabs, i did them too much in my first ds and dks playtrhoughs, but since then i have completed dark souls 1 10 times and its kinda hard because backstab its just braindead op, but dark souls had a lot more limitations to the player character which made the challenges harder, the archers of anor londo would be piece of cake with bloddhound step or barricade shield, the dificulty have not become the point, they just now know they should manage the dificulty in a wise way, because for everyone specially videogame journalists dark souls its super hard unbeatable unfair, when in reality its just a game, games are not hard, they just a game

@FronkZappa
@FronkZappa 2 года назад
I honestly find it much easier and forgiving in Sekiro personally. The learning curve of Sekiro combat took a while to get down, but for me the difference is dodging is the jack of all trades, most useful option in the souls games. Parrying can be the "easy" option in some cases (Gwyn), but at the same time it's extremely punishing if you miss, and by 3 and Elden Ring, it becomes very difficult to reliably parry most attacks if that's your playstyle. On the other hand, Sekiro is built around the parry and you're making the game much harder if you avoid it. It trivializes bosses like the centipede, and I personally find the timing easier because you are reacting, whereas some souls attacks I want to parry make me think too hard and time it wrong. It's also way less punishing if you miss parries. This is balanced out by the dodge being more situational and having less i-frames - you'll get destroyed trying to dodge roll into attacks, and it's generally more useful for positioning yourself or escaping the reach of incoming attacks. It's also made a bit redundant because of the jump, though the fun of Sekiro is chaining dodge counteracts, jumping on people's heads, and just keeping pressure on so you have more control over fights.
@ItsGBMoD
@ItsGBMoD 2 года назад
sekiro parry is more of a perfect block when compared to ds parry. in dark souls you need to atleast time it (althought not that difficult in some games) where in sekiro its just block right as you get hit

Same, kind of. I dropped it two times, the first was because I was trying to kill the asylum demon with the broken sword, obviously I couldn’t so I was like "for whom is this game for!?” It turned out I wasn't familiar with the item equipment and my friend told me -"did you pick the sword?” -”what sword?" -"you should have picked one, look on your items and equip it” -"what items? Oh...” then easily killed the asylum demon but then quoted a little more afterwards because I was overfarming until my equipment broke and I happen to accidentally kill the merchant there to which I had a similar exchange with my friend, I dropped it since I had invested so much time and didn’t want to do it all over again. I tried it some time later again and actually did things right and succeeded, and naturally, now I love the souls games. DS can have a perilous learning curve but if you get through it and do things right, it’s haughty rewarding but yeah, doing the wrong things and taking the wrong steps on the beginning can ruin your overall experience.

Elden ring is not really hard you have jump attacks and op bleed/frost or you can stan bosses with heavy weapons' jump attacks or in the very least you can use summon spirits or crafting some items. Okay but with the benefit of Time, Havel is approachable and is trivial at mildly higher levels. Malenia is still bullshit and untenable even in the late game, her pathetically small kit, her outlandish damage output (for special moves) and the fact that she heals on attack is just not fun. Havel can one shot you, but he has a piss-easy parry window and is slow and heavy. Malenia isn't OP or unstoppable but she wasn't a lot of fun to fight and getting flattened by her and getting flattened by Havel are night and day.

@@drewhammond5203 Dissagree. I think Dark souls is very much more an rpg and about exploration. Where Elden ring is more an action game. I do think that Malenia is overwhelming, but she is the ultimate optional late game challenge and i think its fine that way. With how strong certain builds are you can kill her in seconds at even lvl 1. Personally, if you get a decent medium shield for the first part fo waterfall it really is manageable. If you want some tips im always down. Dont lose hope! I have friends that did her 3rd try, 14th try. I did her 188th try. But that was only because i didnt want to lvl up too high, use certain weapons or use summons or look up how other people figured her out. You got this bro. I for one LOVED the healing mechanic, it rewarded perfect gameplay not allowing you to just heal through things. Her health is low so it lets you destroy her when yo u get good at her, but it can also be a back and forth and rewards perfect gameplay without punishing imperfect gameplay by making you start over, like hell and hell in dmc games. I really aprieciated this organic idea.

@@Jayden-zq6fj Nobody says she is unbeatable, they just say she is unfair and unfun. To put it very simply for you, how many times do people die to her while having used all their estus flasks? Not very often. Dying to oneshots while having high vigor has never been a thing in souls games. On top of that, learning to dodge Waterfowl, which can instakill you, is 10x more difficult than learning to dodge her entire other moveset. So instead of learning that, the game makes it more efficient for you to just hope she doesn't use it too much, and kill her fast. Most people complaining about her have beat her multiple times.

Something that people fail to understand about Dark Souls: the difficulty wasn't the primary characteristic associated with the game until after Bandai Namco started leaning on it hard for marketing with the Prepare to Die Edition, and especially Dark Souls 2. The greatest strength of Dark Souls is not its difficulty, but its world design, which to this day is still superior to every other From Soft game after it. Dark Souls was crafted with interconnectivity in mind where other games were focusing on making their worlds as big and expansive as possible. Sure, a big, expansive world is interesting, the first couple of times, but it isn't until after a while that it starts to get stale, as the player soon realizes just how sparse everything is. In Dark Souls, however, the twists and turns all have various risks and rewards attached to them, to the point that even shortcuts could become rewards for a path the player took. Some players would find the shortcut, some wouldn't. Some would find the optional boss hiding behind an illusory wall, some wouldn't. Some players would find the hidden area that gives them access to a new covenant, and thus, a new way to interact with other players online, and some wouldn't. This is why Dark Souls was so popular, and the entire series, as well as Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, managed to get made. Hindsight can cause us to lose sight of what it was like to have a game come out that was really unlike all of the others being made at the time. Just because it's easy now doesn't mean it wasn't a challenge at the time, and a meaningful one to overcome. That fact only means that you got gud.

@@joelgoetz1145 It's pretty great. If you get a few practice runs in you might be able to consistently parry his powerful jump attack. You just have to dodge his fire balls, and lightening until he charges you. When he's down he takes a little extra damage. You can do the same with all the large horse riders. Even Loretta, except when she does her special slash. All of them hilariously fall down when you get a successful parry with the trash can lid. Even against the Draconic Tree Sentinel's charged lightening hammer. Other shields can do it too, but trash can lid is best.

Dark souls is a different kind of difficulty. The world will kill you more than most bosses where as in later souls-like games it's more emphasis on the bosses. Dark souls has a lot of traps, ledges and just things around the corner that will instant kill you unless you knew it was coming. It's more trial and error. Nioh on the other hand pours all of it's difficulty into the yokai and a learning curve into it's in-depth combat. Sekiro is probably the most balanced in terms of difficulty.

I agree with a lot of the comments here. After playing through later Soulsborne games, Dark Souls 1 isn’t that difficult if you’re a skilled player. I think it can still present a fair challenge to newcomers, but I think even newer people who play Elden Ring before DS1 will still find it relatively easy. With that being said though, I never paid attention to the difficulty in the first Dark Souls. For me, what’s special about the game is the large amount of diversity you get in build types. You can literally attune any build to your liking, and it’ll work if you are dedicated enough. It’s a really deep and engrossing RPG system, and the same can be said for most of the other Soulsborne games too. I just think this title is easier to make builds in than the others, nevermind other positives like tight world design and art direction, the gorgeous soundscape, etc.
