The Doors were total originals, no doubt about it. A classically trained pianist, a jazz drummer, a flamenco guitarist and a poet who happened to have a beautiful baritone voice. And they all were down to Earth humble guys who loved the blues. Magic in a bottle at Venice Beach. Their music sounds as good today as it did then.

Think Ray just gets excited. There may be some exaggerated speaking some of the time. But its exhilarating to hear someone so passionate about music and what goes thru their minds. Ray is no slouch, and he's got an imagination that runs the gamut. Its part reality and part fantasy. He's made no secret about this. Pretentious? maybe a little, but why not? He's earned the right to say and do as he pleases. At what point do you put away the preverbal sandals and love beads and live a better life? One can be enlightened, and lofty. But there is a point. There is a line. He will do just fine. He knows whats right and what is wrong. He was a human, and he was an enlightened individual with a lot of passion, grace and talent. Play on.

I totally agree. Ray may seem a little bit “out there” but it takes creative people like him to create awesome music.

I love that he was really Jim’s best friend. He always looked out for him the most. I never really heard him say an unkind thing about Jim. It’s too bad John could the have gotten on board with Ray and Robbie after Jim passed after they’re two album commitment. It would have been great for all three!
@Abruzzo333
@Abruzzo333 3 года назад
The fact that common, average people find Ray to be "out there" "pretentious", overly excited really just indicates to me how passionless, mediocre, dull and lifeless most people are. I consider myself to be equally as passionate and inspired as he is. I relate to a lot of Ray's philosophical and artistic outlook....and I've personally known many other people of similar character.
@ninaj6051
@ninaj6051 2 года назад
@@Abruzzo333 Yeah, I don't get it. He was such an interesting character, and maybe people like to call passionate people "lofty", "pretentious", etc. I know knowing him would have made quite a difference in my own life. I need someone like him, like how Jim had him back in the day, as I relate more to the brooding, complicated Jim than Ray, unfortunately (?). lol

That’s the great thing about music, you know something is right, and you don’t have to explain why, it just is. And everybody knows it. If someone doesn’t get it, they don’t last very long in your band.

this is such a nice clip! i like this one , telling the origins of the bottleneck which was used so effectively on moonlight drive AND on Summers almost gone and End of the Night, The two guys in the video were Great musicians but it is always worth bearing in mind that without Morrison both would never have been heard of! it was his star that drew them all higher their efforts subsequent to the doors bear this line of thought out, they achieved nothing of merit musically, zilch why was that?? Jim was THE Catalyst for the unique and dark music

It's a shame the release of this movie occurred during the Recession so it never got the marketing attention it deserved. I never saw any print ads in the LA Times or the OC Register and I never heard an ad on the radio. I remember it played in only one theater up in LA and no theaters down here in the OC even though this county has ties to Jim and Pam. It deserved better, it's a fantastic documentary and the choice of Johnny Depp to narrate it was a good one. His voice is perfect for this.

Before they went off on that zen tangent Robbie was hinting at the real truth: their last two albums (Morrison Hotel, L.A. Woman) fulfilled their original contract obligations. They needed to get those two done to have the freedom to renegotiate and/or sign with a new label. As we know, Jim died right after L. A. Woman.
@kelvinkloud
@kelvinkloud 5 лет назад
they were in a conflicting position in spring '71. the upside: LA woman was a pleasant surprise, continuing the momentum off hotel & even surpassing the album for depth & commercial viability. it was selling well even before jim passed.... the downside: morrison was still dealing w/ the possibility of actual jail time & was emotionally drained stranded in paris. he had lost his enthusiasm for live performances & having to carry the weight of being a shock & awe lead.... in betters parlance it was a push leaning to having to give up some points. granted the doors were actually in a better leverage position then early '70, but I dont think the major labels wouldve been just coughing up the cash that bands like zep & floyd were starting to command in the scene.... if morrison wouldve lived, I think the doors may have dissolved anyway, esp as a major headliner. yet, their label had some indebted loyalty to them. if jim could get a grip on his demons, they couldve still done very interesting studio work & still have held a consistent fan base. but the '68 highwater mania was rearview mirror for good.

Ray was supposedly dying from a stomach infection or tumor ,my dad from cancer...both socalled "incurables" could have been healed (www.gerson.org)...guess,we'll have to wait until JUDGEMENT DAY now and see how THE SECOND COMING will occur...
